Yeah, I'm glad the anime industry has moved away from that sort of thing. I can take shows that give us a voyeuristic (albeit innocent and pure!) view of young girls
with much pleasure
, but puerile and grotesque shit like Berserk and Ninja Scroll that absolutely revel in their puerilty and... grotesque-ness = nope. Can't do it.

I don't think you can be voyeuristic and innocent at the same time. Of course, I don't think K-ON and the Idolmaster anime are particularly voyeuristic.

Well, there's no denying Miura likes his rapes and violence excessive and grotesque. But then, can we really expect better from an Idolmaster fan?
But he started Berserk long before iM@S existed, and with his love for iDOLM@STER came a diminished pace for Berserk releases. Maybe iM@S is mellowing him out and turning him into a better person while he is forced to work on something disgusting like Berserk for the sake of his fans.

Doesn't Ghost in the Shell have some needless nudity?
No. The large amount of nudity has a point. Something something dehumanization something I don't really feel like explaining this right now.

Berserk? Puerile and grotesque? As far as I know, Berserk is a manga about cute mermaids doing cute things.

Miura has always liked cute girls doing cute things He even praised the Shana novels back in 2003.

The Knight in the Area 5

this whole show feels so cheap and half-arsed. i'm gonna drop this and check out the manga instead.

lllol

You might be waiting a while for the rest of the series, though.

Wow first failimations delays of fairy tail and now media blasters and putting one of my most wanted dvd's on indefinite hold. This is starting to be a terrible year for anime. I hope it gets a release date, I wanted to finally get to hear more of Eiji's dub voice, as well as Fukuda, etc.

Toriko 41

Guess the episode was filler, since just about all 15 or so foods were fan creations (nice).

Voyeurism is the central conceit of Idolmaster's first episode.

I don't think it's possible to draw that much rape without liking it at least a little.

Really, the whole idea that adults enjoying underage girls in frequently suggestive scenario's, not as an (unfortunate) means to an art, but as an intrinsic desire is somehow less disturbing than adults not just enjoying a rendition of violence, but physically desiring mindless violence is more than silly.

Berserk's violence and rape isn't mindless at all, it's very deliberate and in-line with the story's ludicrously misanthropic worldview.

I'm not an adult. And K-ON and iM@S have very little suggestive scenarios. Invalid! And calling shit like Berserk and Ninja Scroll merely "a rendition of violence" is being silly. There is such thing as excessive and downright disgusting.

But yes, I think extreme violence is more deplorable than depicting underage girls doing stuff, which shouldn't be considered deplorable at all so long as it just stays that.

You can't really compare Berserk to Kawajiri's movies; at least Berserk has a semblance of character development. Kawajiri's gratuitous violence is usually its own justification.

Have you forgotten that IMAS' very concept is a grown man creeping underage starlets? Do you wish, or have the ability to creep an underage starlet, Pizzaroll? I'm using your own argument. Also, I called Ninja Scroll what it is.

Sure, why not. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I'm saying that underage girl stuff isn't even comparable to the stuff that goes on in Berserk and the like. It's a whole different level of disgusting.

IM@S isn't a dating sim, it's a raising simulator. It's more Princess Maker than Love Plus, you aren't supposed to have a romantic relationship with the girls you're raising.

Does this mean Pizzaroll isn't into guro as much as I was under the impression he was? I find this somewhat disappointing.

No, what you did was call yourself, and everybody watching IMAS, a probable pedophile. Unfortunate.

Voyeurism is the central conceit of Idolmaster's first episode.

That's not how I view the documentary presentation of that episode. Its purpose was to introduce all the characters and the show's basic theme of "trying to become an idol", not to highlight the idols as targets of secretive male lust.

Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas 10-12

Such a brilliant display of manliness. If Aldebaran was more prominent, this would clearly be MANIME.
And of course he had to die :(

Exactly.
Getting into a romantic relationship in Idolm@ster would be as unthinkable as marrying your daughter in Princess Maker.

I think that's the wrong way to look at it. It's dark fantasy. That's the way the genre works, and sadly enough, it's in fact much closer to reality than high fantasy. Deal with it.

I dunno, I've always seen Berserk as extremely juvenile and overly gratuitous in just about every way. I'll never understand the love for it. I honestly don't get how any socially well-adjusted individual can get any enjoyment out of it either, considering the type of stuff it revels in. Grotesque killings and lots 'o rape every 10 pages, woo.

The truth is that well-adjusted people don't actually exist.

There's dark and then there's dark.

Yep.

Still, I believe most of the excessive stuff in dark fantasy isn't meant to make the reader/ viewer feel good or arouse him, I believe it's meant to create a feeling of dread, disgust and anger. And having evil and despicable shit going on is a legitimate and effective way to reach that goal.

Not to mention the rape stuff in Berserk is extremely exaggerated to begin with. It happens, it happens to both genders, but it's certainly not like it happens every other page, or even every other volume, and it's never depicted in a "hot" way. Some exceptions like the eclipse aside, t's only implied.

Can someone recommend some anime that is either war theme (e.g. like Last Exile, no Gundam/robot please) or something silly (like Working!!) please? Does not have to be recent.
