This is kinda like how I feel about the new E7, although not as strongly.

Q: On a scale of 1 to Christina Hendricks laughing at your junk, how much is Eli beating the Pats in the Super Bowl for the second time going to hurt?
— Graham, Muncie

SG: It's not going to hurt because I have already walked through, in my brain, every possible terrible scenario that can happen. On The Bachelor, you know how most of the girls who get dumped are totally blindsided, but there's always one or two that act like veterans, give the Bachelor a hug, stride to the limo with pride and take their exit like a champ? They had mentally prepared themselves for the worst. That's me on Sunday if the Patriots lose. In 2008, I was the crying girl in the back of the limo wondering what happened and saying things like "I don't understand what I did" and "He's making a BIG mistake." Not this year. My heart is made of steel.
I'm ready for disappointment.

Although we agree 100% (scarily) about very specific pieces of camera work in very particular episodes of Cowboy Bebop.

Haha, shit happens at the strangest times doesn't it?

Gintama: 243

This was actually the first Gintama ep to bore me in a very, very long time. The sentimental bit towards the end there was funny for a second, but that's all I really found to be. Not good.

Gintama: 244

Yo.Yo.Yo. Interesting segway into a serious arc. They don't usually dedicate half of an ep to pure comedy, and half of an ep to development/infodump with such blatancy. Hijikata, and the shinsengumi are bros and all, but another backstory segment on an individual unit in the group seems redundant when they basically covered all the bases in the flashback arc with Sougo and his sister. I did dig the ep, but am waiting with a deathly anticipation on the arc with Takasugi and Kamui being bros to arrive.

In case y'all didn't pop into the Berserk movie thread a new trailer is out today. Listen to the music, don't try looking at the beautiful CG visuals because you might go blind:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8NDDzEeNAI&feature=g-all-u&context=G20eb306FAAAAAAAAAAA

It's pretty sad that a bad newtaminA show is going to have better CGI than an actual movie; although BRS has the advantage of being much more stylized and abstract visually. It's unfortunate because some of the shots in that trailer are conceptually good, but ruined in execution.

Cardcaptor - 41

So d'aaw, so hnng, some shipping, plus love rivalry all in one episode.

Yeah it starts getting even better in a little while.

So, two guys decided to learn the dance moves to the Kill Me Baby ED.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCNW1U1skN0

They're good.

I could probably do all of this, except I would break my wrist on the handstand part.

Hidamari Sketch, Sketchbook, and... ?

The only art shows I can think of are Comic Party/Revolution, Doujin Work, and Bakuman.

From the time period I would say you are thinking of Doujin work.

Well, certainly it doesn't speak to the very soul of an entire people like Strike Witches.. But not all media can be so great that it redefines who we are; is it really fair to compare?

True, Strike Witches really is the epitome of human achievement. Is it all downhill from here?

I read the Berserk thread and there were few people saying the movie looked great. After watching this trailer, I can safely say these people are blind or just in denial.

I don't think it's fair to single out those people specifically – plenty of people on youtube say the same thing!

So I started watching a couple episodes of Toradora, and while it's actually nice and funny so far, I get the feeling that sad shit is going to happen in this show. Like, one of the main characters dying or friends turning against each other or something. And I detest sad shit. So, could someone tell me what to expect?

The same reason men don't walk around in speedos, despite michael phelps being the greatest human who ever lived.

So shame at one's own puny flesh, then? Gotcha.

It's all pretty laidback. Just enjoy your kugilolis.

nothing too extreme, just sad character motivations or family/friend/relationship difficulties

Expect drama but not excessively or needlessly so, except MAYBE the endgame depending on a person's tolerance. It's not tragic really.

Nah, the direction is no good but you're underselling the quote-unquote arc's contribution to diminished quality this season. In Bake, a snake arc episode was a snake arc episode. In Nise, I just now feel like we're finally getting around to whatever the fuck is wrong with the imouto four whole episodes in. I'm not sure I want to call it an arc so much as three episodes about stuff & junk plus The One Where They Finally Got Around to Shit.
The thing is, in the hands of a good director none of that would really matter. He'd adapt the source material yes 'faithfully' and cut down on a lot of the 'wasted space' as it were.

A great show. There's no real case of mood whiplash in Toradora and motives are there at all times, as silly as they may seem at points. It's not School Days.

Kill Me Baby 2

The stupidity of this show's rather charming in its own way. I think I'll stick with it.

High Score 7-8 END

dunno why I bothered watching all of this as it was pretty bad but its only 3 minutes an ep so whatever.

And I thought you were one of the cool people.

ugggghhhh Berserk deserves better than this. :(

Black Rock Shooter 1

Wait, so is
the other world some imaginary place Kuroi came up with with enemies representing problematic people in her life, or is it just a completely different reality with alternate versions of other people?

Anyway, I liked the chain segment and dynamic camera work.
You should check out the OVA then.

No amount of sweet filters can save you when you show is supposed to look gritty and down to earth :(

That arc doesn't even exist in the manga yet though...

On the other hand, it's kind of odd that the opening seems to highlight them rather than the characters of the next big arc after the Shinsengumi one. I guess there's a chance the anime might attempt a surprise(like maybe launching an arc featuring them almost at the same time as the manga), although it's unlikely...

Well of course. You don't get to be :firehawk without having a different perspective on the passage of time.
They were closer together in my memory. :p

I've seen way too many endings done horribly wrong to complain much about an ending in which the biggest complaints were 'they changed the novel for the worse' and 'it was poorly paced.'
It's been a while, but I seem to remember that it got pretty silly at the end there...

In terms of that one specific arc – yes, it most certainly does.
I dunno, I've always seen Berserk as extremely juvenile and overly gratuitous in just about every way. I'll never understand the love for it. I honestly don't get how any socially well-adjusted individual can get any enjoyment out of it either, considering the type of stuff it revels in. Grotesque killings and lots 'o rape every 10 pages, woo.

So just some mistakes or misunderstanding leading to harsh words and/ or tears, but all still ends well? I guess I can deal with that.

Until the strike witches movie + strike witches universe comes out, anyways.

Strike Witches Universe!?

I searched, but all I could find was

WITCHES NEEDED! For a RP set in the Strike Witches Universe.

Clearly, everyone needs to join. You'll be playing with
Name: Paula Tibbets
Age: 17
Sex: Female
Nationality: United States of Liberion

Physical description: a girl of average height (5 feet 5 inches), pale skin, ash colored hair that stops in the middle of her back, she has a high B-cup almost C-Cup bust

And

Name: Jennifer "Jenna" Doolittle
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Nationality: United States of Liberion

Physical Description: Jenna is a tall witch standing at roughly 5'9 and she like all Liberion women have a rather large chest. While it's not as big as Shirley's it's not too far off the mark. She has long brown hair that she keeps held back in a ponytail and a set of deep sapphire blue eyes.

I expect your character sheets, complete with awkward descriptions of your witch's bust size, on my desk by the end of the day.

Expect HNNNG from Toradora. Lots and lots of HNNNG.

I don't want to comment on the novel, because I'm not familiar with it and I don't know whether it works in that medium, but I don't think I believe good direction can magically overcome bad writing. (By 'writing' I do not mean dialogue.)

No, it certainly cannot, and from what I understand about the novels they get...more like this as they go on? More self-indulgent? It's not really a good sign.

But Shinbo is certainly not a director who is capable of such a feat.

I'm not sure if you're being entirely serious as it seems odd for you to pass some kind of psychological judgement on the audience of a show.

Guilty Crown 15
You knew
Hare was going to die when she indirectly told Shu she loved him
The lack of character development made it very meh though. Shu is about to go berserk on us now though so that's good.

No, I'm being serious. The type of stuff portrayed in these types of 80s-90s manga/anime honestly repulses me. Stuff like Ninja Scroll and Berserk is unbearable for me and literally makes me feel a bit nauseous. I question anyone who enjoys it. Write them off and pass judgement? No, but I do question them. Flags raised, etc.

You guys (branduli, etc) can make fun of me for loving iM@S and K-ON because LOL CREEPYPEDO stuff, but I'd rather watch cute girls do cute things than watch a glob of ultraviolent juvenile misery complete with tons of rape/attempted rape of every female character in sight.

I don't know what this gif is supposed to mean (and I waited forever for it to load - fucking Sprint!) Maybe that a good director could even turn a Masamune Shirow manga into magic?
Oh, I thought you meant bad writing in general, not just adaptations.

It's a gif of Anno standing on playground equipment doing cool poses. Eva had bad-passable writing (up and down) but the direction saved it.

Also didn't that one guy make a good Shirow adaptation. Ghost in the Machine or something I think it was...
But, I guess I should say that good directors are usually de facto (or de jure) writers as well so the two can kind of blur.
I highly disagree with this but I doubt I could substantiate my disagreement in any solid way. D:
Certainly, basing something on existing source material is no excuse for not fixing it.
But I agree with this. Faithfulness in adaptations is a stupid concept, even when it's of good material. They're called adaptations for a reason, not transpositions!
I've always hated Ninja Scroll for this very reason, from way back when I first became an animu fan and it was a standard recommendation for newbies. It's about one step away from Urotsukidoji & kin imo. With the puerility (TITS! VIOLENCE!) tends to come stupidity, too.
Yeah, I'm glad the anime industry has moved away from that sort of thing. I can take shows that give us a voyeuristic (albeit innocent and pure!) view of young girls
with much pleasure
, but puerile and grotesque shit like Berserk and Ninja Scroll that absolutely revel in their puerilty and... grotesque-ness = nope. Can't do it.

If you're able to remove the disconnect from one side, you can do it for the other...

Think of it as realism though. All those attractive females captured and nothing happens and bloodless deaths?

Haven't seen Beserk. Not a huge fan of Ninja Scroll and Wicked City. Probably didn't help that I watched both in a short time frame, so it felt like I was watching the same movie reskinned. Trust and Betrayal, on the other hand, was awesome.

Well, there's no denying Miura likes his rapes and violence excessive and grotesque. But then, can we really expect better from an Idolmaster fan?
