Wow, they didn't use the same old unfunny joke for the 5th time in this episode! Well, there's always the next one.

From what you, and others, have written about the episode it sounds like it's a more fitting 'conclusion' to the series than it's final episode. Unlike say, Usagi Drop, where the OVA's are just a bit of fun this sounds like the 'proper' last episode. I wonder if they couldn't produce it earlier for budget/scheduling reasons?

the last aired episode was a complete non ending, so it wouldn't be hard to have a real conclusion.

Well, I'm acknowledging that and questioning why they did it. Just to save the 'real' ending for the BD/DVD release I suppose? Does that really get people to buy it if they're weren't going to?

Too many box sets sitting around, mostly thanks to holiday sales, that for some reason or another I have so far failed to begin watching. Need to clear up the backlog before I buy anything more.

Noir, Gankutsuou, or Rahxephon. Three completely different genres. Which of these should I deal with first?

Because SHAFT.

I guess they wanted a nice bonus for the blu-rays, nothing else really makes sense.

Yeah this is definitely the case. Episode 12 wasn't much of an ending at all, this OVA concluded the series in a much better way and as a single episode in the series its certainly one of the better ones.

I'm assuming it was a scheduling conflict... unless they plan for OVAs when they're planning the season as a whole in pre-production. It's also longer than the typical episode as well, for what that's worth.

Yeah, it's not uncommon for an extra episode to be bundled with the BD's, but usually those are just excuses for fanservice.

Eye catchers can be pretty redundant at times, at first its cool but after a while it can get annoying especially when I am glued to a show and an eye catcher takes me away from it.

Gankutsuou is the only good show in the 3. It's great.

Hanasaku Iroha - 01

Poor friendzone-kun. It was over before it started :(

HOW DARE SHE HURT OHNNNGHA

I decided to check it out because I heard of the genki female lead. Quite impressed with it (wasn't expecting much), I liked how it started out and the characters/art were both nice. Not sure what to expect from here on out but i'm hoping for the best.

Yumeria - 01

Holy fuck is this shit bad. I think memory hasn't served me well but I think most early to mid 00 harems were terrible. Everything feels so barebones that it's hard to watch yet I might give it a few more episodes... Also, Mone...

Ohana is pretty good, there's a few weak arcs around the middle of the show, but the end is worth it.

Watch Ganks, sell Noir, sell Rahxephon.

Gankutsuou is the only good show in the 3. It's great.

I whole heartedly support/endorse these messages.
The Law of Ueki 12

lLmOY.jpg

In this episode, we learn Ueki has a family. It's a pretty lousy family though, as they don't seem to be concerned by him never coming home. At first they tell Ai, "He stepped out for a bit; he'll be back in a few minutes." But a couple hours later they tell her, "He said he'd be away at some camp for the whole summer." True familial love.
Of course they aren't Ueki's real family; he's really a Celestial whose father had him for the sole purpose of making him fight for him so that he could win the contest and become God. That's... not really much better.

let's blame the baby boomers for that.
But come on Ikkou,
panties only? You really are losing to your desires. Next, you'll be okay with bare feet.

You guys are making it seem like people in here spend all their time watching and discussing bad anime!

Good to hear. Ohana is the only character that's really got me wanting to watch more to be honest, I hope to see more genki greatness.

It wouldn't be the same without random musings of our anime guilty pleasures :p

RahXephon is the only great show out of those 3. Noir is trash, Gankutsuou is pretty good and worth watching.

So with all this kickstart business going on in gaming side with Double Fine, what anime makers would we fund and for what kind of project?

There is no enlightenment without desire, and enlightenment only emerges with desire - did I get that right? I can see the logic there, but I'm not sure how I can take this conflict seriously when it involves getting a dude the best erection he's ever had. Not that I'm complaining in regards to what this anime is aiming for, but it's wasted potential when the story is being handled like this. Or rather, a distraction for me. For example, moments like in Episode 10 for the first season
when an evil spirit is trying to strip the girls naked to activate his holiness' powers
is why the premise becomes laughable for the wrong reasons as it tries to have tension. It's like why even have it? Just have more episodes like 1 from this season and say fuck it.

Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 13
QcWLi.jpg

Pulling out all the stops by giving Miku a cameo.
So, hey, we get a full color opening. Then, we get demon chasing, random storytelling, getting a voice for Meru, Meru getting kidnapped by a pedo, Meru confessing to a shota, a battle against assumptions, a visit to a tsundere cafe, random yaoi and a great group zetsuboushita. Oh, and suddenly a new ED.
Well, I love forward to the OAVs and season 3 now.

Sakura x Haruka again huh?

I realize the Buddhist paths to enlightenment is basically a power level structure here, but my problem with it is that there's no concept of training on how you can grasp these characters maturing or growing. So what are they overcoming exactly? Sure, they say doing chores and so forth is part of it, but it's not enough with how mundane they treat it. Now I know it's odd, but without that sense of progression, it's why this serious business stuff is falling deaf to my ears and being a detriment to what, otherwise, should have been some simple lighthearted fun.

i have a weird feeling there's going to be a lot of Dream Machine answers.

That would be a good answer though! I do actually wonder if something like this could work for an anime. Studios normally make most/all their money directly from the Japanese market and have very little interaction with fans outside of the country, it would be interesting to see how much a studio could pull in from worldwide fans to fund a project. Particularly considering budgets are pretty small for the average anime.

I'm going to miss all the sparkle moe ;_;

Aside from a criminal lack of Meme, that was an interesting ending. Not really what I expected.

Guilty Crown - 16

I may have given this show a lot of stick since episode 1 but I do believe this is the first time I've thought this while watching any episode (shockingly enough)...

What the fuck is this shit!?

This dick version of Shu is so bad and the whole president Ouma schtick is so vommit inducing I'm actually wanting the spineless turd Shu back and I can't even express how much I hated spineless turd Shu.

I hope Inori randomly turns yandere on everyone's ass at some point, this show needs something like that.

amaenaideyo anata

Oh wow, a genuine character moment with Ikkou. I like how when Ikkou was talking about his past that the dogs they were holding onto disappeared. It's only going to get worse if you don't tie them to a telephone pole guys.

Anyway, a terrible episode. I think it's worse than the sentai ranger one. Sumi being a lame character doesn't help either. Her most defining moment was probably during the underwear thief episode: she's just tits and ass with no personality. Although, to be fair, it could be that her character type bores me. It's not like Haruka is much better in the same regards, but she's more impressionable than Sumi is. Hell, even Hinata stands out more than Sumi. The ugly eyebrows do not help either. It's one too many thick.

It'd be interesting to see. I wonder if Maruyama ever considered it. But then, I don't know if an anime movie would get the same kind of attention that a possible game did. Of course this is a Kon movie so who knows.

Oh yeah, a Yuuko episode to offset a terrible (Sumi) episode. Thank you lord?

If you're truly strong, you'll eat your own
(bad) cooking. The kitchen is your battlefield, and you are a warrior there.

Definitely not as good as her last character episode. It was a bad episode really when the focus wasn't there because of Kazuki doing you know what, but whatever compared to the last one.

Black Rock Shooter 2

Seriously?

This show is awful. I wasn't a huge fan of the OVA, but the script and visuals are so much worse here that I'm sure how much more of it I can watch. They would have been better off making the TV series a sequel to the OVA instead of reinterpreting a simple story into some melodramatic nonsense. Or even better, they should have just given Thermae Romae more episodes. It figures that the best noitamina show of the season would be a flash animation.

The show does have some funny macaroon torture scenes though.

LOOK OUT, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

Bonus episodes hurt. You get a show back only to have to say goodbye again 30 minutes later.

Anyway, while it wasn't the most interesting episode, it was certainly a more fitting end to the series than Episode 12. I'm not a fan of
festival
episodes when they're played straight and
Ryuushi
was always my least favorite member of the harem, so I'm glad they veered away from that after a few minutes and went into more meaningful territory.
Makoto finally having his own brush with the extraterrestrial
was a great way to end the series, and it at least made
Hoshimiya
's presence in the final couple of episodes of the show feel less shoehorned. I was expecting
her to become a rival or comic antagonist/foil to Erio
, but I think I prefer this use of the character in hindsight.

Also, thanks to watching a certain series due to AnimeGAF's influence in the time I lurked before my account was approved, I'll never be able to look at this shot in the ED in the same way ever again.

Number 1 huh. No wonder Kazuki's jealous. And Sumi, this is why you're not needed here.

Anyway, a forgettable episode that highlights how shallow these characters are when they try to hold such a conversation about education. It figures Sumi doesn't say anything nor does Chitose say anything about her time in the countryside or how she was raised in contrast to the city kids.

Doujin Crown 16:

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! Shu has got the be the worst protagonist ever conceived! Really that's all there is to say! We're in full train wreck mode, and this train ain't stoppin' for nobody! XD

I just want to say repeating the opening scene for no damn reason other than to act as filler is totally stupid. It's rather insulting really. It's one thing if it was some stock animation, but you can tell by the structure of this episode that this was a lazy job, and I'm going to claim it as that unless I'm told otherwise. Just look at Unibrow and Brown Hair's keikaku as not being lazy. After the 5th time, it gets boring when there's nothing entertaining about it when there's only one fanservice shot we get for enduring this. And that's just ignoring the setup for most of these scenes.

Fuck. This thing's like a shotgun blast to the face to someone who parted ways with their most significant other at some point...

That final part with the song killed me. And the final scene... Ugh.

Edit:
Yeah, I know that the last scene with the smile is supposed to be seen as a positive one. But, fuck.

There's nothing wrong with the premise, plenty of other works have handled similar premises with no problem (by which I mean certain 'books' have). The execution is clearly at fault.

The answer is to watch Mushi-shi and Planetes.

Don't listen to Jexihus, Noein is a great show. Mushi-shi is better, sure, but Noein is a fantastic series. (Planetes, of course, I'm not exactly a fan of.)

Noir first, then Rahxephon; I haven't seen Gankutsuou. Noir is a great series, one of my favorites of the early '00s really. I absolutely love the soundtrack, the characters are very well done, the episodes, while usually tragic, are well written and high quality... it's a great series and the best of the three or four "girls with guns" shows, though I do like the others too (Madlax, El Cazador de la Bruja).

Rahxephon's not quite its equal, but it is a pretty good series with a decent, if convoluted, plot. Rahxephon's clearly Evangelion-inspired, but it is original enough to feel like its own show, not just a clone.

Funny, when I asked here about Noir before I bought it the overall opinion seemed to be average at worst, not outright bad. Whatever, they each cost $20 or less (Gankutsuou was $13) so I'm watching them all anyway. Not really a lost investment.

Also, Sentai has licensed the Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-hen movie, with their usual "digital soon, DVD/BD later" announcement.
Noir is pretty good, but it, along with the other "girls with guns" shows as well, is just one of the victims of "AnimeGAF hates what other anime fans like" syndrome, I think...

The Law of Ueki: 9

Right...Is that why you guys have no shadow at all? lol. I don’t see what the point of extending the previous ep’s fight into this one was when they ended it only a minute in and in such an antim-climatic manner while at it.

The Law of Ueki: 10

Cause that looks just like her, right bro? Ueki can just beaten into the ground by a 50foot clay monster, use no power, and not be grounded into dirt, or even made unconscious....Everything so fucking convenient in this show, shit’s really not even funny. My head actually hurts. What’s also not funny is the fact that Ueki couldn’t have immediately thought to get him in an area with/ or when there’s no light to give the shadow he needs to make his monsters. But I guess that doesn’t matter if you’re not going to use the advantage when it gives itself to you anyway. Also, I’m one hundred percent certain this show is trolling:

The Law of Ueki: 11

Wasn't Ueki supposed to only have less than three pieces of trash remaining from the last fight? I mean, if you're going to use the lack of resources to play up tension, like logically continue your shit, or note at the least lampshade with the idea that he suddenly found more. But no, he just fires off more tress without a fuck. Also, this trojan horse thing, I don't even know.

Just watched it a week ago, and I must be the only person to
find solace in that smile. It was like the happy equivalent of a jump-scare.

Of course,
I got the song stuck in my head at work, started thinking about the past, and almost broke down in the middle of my shift. It was great.

Still can't stop listening to that song.
