I just realized that the first anime I ever watched completely from start to finish properly was Love Hina (followed by Love Hina Again). I wonder if I should go back and re-watch it. I haven't seen the show in....almost 10 years. Wow.

Ano Natsu de Matteru 4

I was hoping we could avoid the same cliche misunderstandings that exist everywhere else, but nope. Supporting cast continues to be miles ahead of the two leads, and yes, the biggest reason I am supporting Kanna is because she is voiced by Kaori Ishihara.

Surprisingly, when I though about what my answer would be for this, the show that comes up is the first Fullmetal Alchemist series. I would have thought it would have been something older, but I guess I didn't watch as much anime as I thought before 2004 or so. Or at least not much anime that wasn't in a bowdlerized US primetime form.

Love Hina was the first fansubs I ever watched. It was back in 2000, and on some bad quality VHS tapes. I watched it because...hey...anime.
I would watch anything when I first started.
I'm not sure I would watch Love Hina now. It just isn't very interesting.

sorry, we have a new Char.

Or had, rather.

I can't really mourn the death of generic rubbish, but I am surprised by it.

Serious answer - from what I understand Adolescence Apocalypse was a huge bomb (gee, I wonder why) so I'm definitely grateful just for the existence of Penguindrum, but I would kill for him to do another theatrical movie before he disappears forever.

So what you're saying is, unless one of your posts contains the phrase 'serious answer' I'm to assume that it's a non-serious response? My whole world is falling apart!

Yes. I've been bullshitting you all along. Yami is actually my favorite anime of all time and I think Mamoru Oshii is a talentless hack. Oh, and darkside is right about everything.

Don't even joke about that!
Are you two perhaps insinuating something unsavory about my characters?

And while I couldn't even defend myself appropriately! Such tactlessness, it's scathing.

I'm back and Nise 4 was the best thing ever.

Not only is your soul corrupt, you happily wear this corruption on your sleeve. A true SHAFT prophet, here to spread the good word.

You know, I think anyone in Japan (or perhaps, anywhere in the world really) would be able to make such a bland product like IS.

> Start a setting where the main character is special amongst other men
> Introduce 10 girls that hopelessly fall in love with said main character for absolutely no reason. Each girl must fall under a different Archetype/trope.
> Have lots of harem situations with each of the girl, as well as girl to girl conflicts.
> A bunch of action scenes to make it look like there's some kind of actual story

bam. who wants to be a millionaire? just dont become a dick afterwards

Great, now I'm trying to figure out how many of the light novel to anime adaptations in the last few years have actually used that formula.

Chihayafuru - 17

Pretty much a training episode but with fewer special attacks and more character developement.

Maybe I should change my anime gender, so that I can be part of the Josei target group.

Well that's that.

Broshikosei 04:

No anime had made me laugh this much in years. I wish I was articulate enough to describe why the humor works so well, but I'm not. There's something about the awkwardness, the mundane subject matter, and the less-than-flattering way that they depict female characters that would be treated as moe objects by any other series.

The student council makes me wish that real-life delinquents were more comical and less cretinous.

Having not watched Nise, his avatar looks like a guy forcing a girl to fellate him...

I'd believe Koyomi would do that after watching the first episode of Nise

Hell you don't even need the main character to be special, he just needs to exist and the ladies will drop their panties in many of the adaptations.

I'm not so much shocked by how generically generic it is, but how they're willing to can such a major hit. I mean it's clearly not what they want to be doing, but still.

CCS 47

Something pink and something very very GREEN.

A
new transfer student
. Sakura's school gets a lot of them.
Something dodgy about this guy right off the bat.
Sure enough, it starts raining for no reason at all
and when Sakura goes to investigate,
she cannot activate her magic Wand.

This is obviously an issue that must be addressed.
That
Mr Clow
dude looks rather chill.
The
Clow Card book has Sakura's name on it
now!

20,000 sales worth of blandness? Easier said than done. It takes talent.

Ahem, I mean talent and the perfect season/circumstances. My mistake.

What's worth watching this season? I'm still watching Chihayafuru and Mirai Nikki.

You're watching Chihayafuru, so you're already up to date on the best show. Natsume is good as well, but everything else is average to bad.

Nisemonogatari is the only one that interests me. I'm going to watch Bakemonogatari before I watch Nise.

Watching Bakemonogatari is a...good choice I suppose. However, moving from it to Nisemonogatari might be quite difficult because at the moment Nise is a far shoddier product.

My avatar is the Nise equivalent of this scene.

What I really mean to say is that you all should watch Nise 4. Your (anticipated) rage would only fuel my love for this show.

I admit my new avatar is pretty pedo. She's like 40 times older than him, but love triumphs over all obstacles.

This reminds me of what bothers me most about that most recent episode of Nisemonogatari - all the character interactions, and especially those ones, were actually very interesting. I liked it, as words, as audio, as character-banter and sparring - just not as a piece of visual storytelling. That's where it completely failed.

Well, he's missing all the Nisemonogatari anti-hype.
Very few seem to be displeased with the its current direction. At least the ratio indicates so anyway.

Well, I suppose it does take talent to make such generic stuff interesting (if it is). Although the english translation of IS novel doesn't do the source material any favors..
Sounds like someone hasn't watched it (yet). No further comment.

I'm so happy Tiger and Bunny is selling well.

Maybe they'll be given a decent budget to work off of when they make an inevitable TV sequel. (I already know about the movie)

Why would that happen? It's not selling well because people liked the episode with the cool action sequence in it - it's selling well the the fujoshi market and they don't really seem too bothered by how crappy and inconsistent the show looked a lot of the time.

I dislike seeing Chihayafuru and Ben-To not sell well. :(

You might want to stop looking at sales charts then. (Insert you favourite show here) probably won't sell particularly well unless it's one of those extremely popular otaku titles. If you enjoy works that explore different areas, themes, styles and approaches you might have to get used to them selling pretty badly.
