Daily Lives of Nichibros 5

Holy fucking shit this is easily the best damn episode yet goddamn I cannot believe how fucking bro this thing is.

Ideally the first episode of Medaka Box will just cover like half of the first chapter before the screen tears like a page and Kumagawa hops out and he's like yeah isn't this shit boring let's just skip ahead and boom we speed up to the end of the
flask arc
and kumagawa is pimping out with his crew and the ED starts playing. Fuck ya.
Just to be on the clear, I'd expect (practically) anything out of an adaptation by GAiNAX... (practically) anything I say!

They should totally rush it out for this year, if only to increase the already large amount of nostalgia driven offerings.
"Rush"? For when it was planned?

What a strong end and the final scene was so amazing. A little, cute and reflective Slice of Life anime. And now Kumichu!

Daily Lives of High School Boys 5

This show. This wonderful, wonderful show. The fact that this only gets twelve episodes is a travesty.

Under normal circumstances, you'd think a guy would be happy if his sister brought four of her hot girl friends home for the night, but for Motoharu, NOPE.
Also, by the end of the show the score will be something like Karasawa 500, Yanagin and friends 0.

Nichibro's 05

Bro's being bro's. Amazing episode from start to finish, and Literary Girl only had to enter the scene along with Hidenori's reaction to have me rolling.

Sales expectation != budget. Don't mistake the two. For example, Capcom's expectation of MH3G was to ship 1.2 million by the end of March 2012. That doesn't mean that if it does less they won't break even. MH is a relatively cheap series to make. It has high sales expectations because the brand name is wrong.

In the same way, expectations for an Atlus game by the Persona team would not have the same expectations of an Idea Factory game even if the actual game cost the same to make, simply because the staff brand is much stronger in the market.

Good point.

If Tomokazu's personality wasn't what it was, there is no way that expression of his would have worked for this scene. A chuckles worth I reward thee.

Speaking of the other worthwhile joke this episode, the one involving Neneko would have been decently amusing if it was insinuated Mizuki and Tomokazu were 'studying' or anything sexually implicit (yes, childish sex jokes. Sue me), but the entire setup was bland and makes the joke fall flat when the mood simply isn't there for such a crude joke sadly.
Come on, first experience? And it was exciting? Dude, was a beast?
Should have been an instant hit.

As for the ongoing plot, it's really hard to bother to care when the mystique of it isn't anything startling. The lack of any dissonance for when we switch from reality to a dream sequence or vice versa is disappointing because the tension is lacking in this series so far, making the imouto's innocent plight deaf.

I think I might give this one a watch.

Daily Lives of High School Boys ep 5
More Literature girl? Check
More Hidenori monologue? Check
More misunderstandings and misreading of atmosphere? Check
More Karasawa awesomeness for actually giving expired sweets previously plus taking off his hat? Double Check

Best episode ever!!

It's not too early to say so because they have changed focus. They're just gradually starting to switch back.
While the "one story per book" structure is there to stay (i.e. don't expect any more quick and dirty story arcs à la Bakemonogatari), Nisemonogatari arguably is relatively light on plot... And the sisters aren't really part of the main cast, after all. It's often compared to a "fan disc" of sort, although it introduces a few new characters that remain relevant after the first season (first season = Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari Kuro).

Well, that was uneventful. Loser protagonist hasn't ever gotten a girlfriend until his sweet 16 changes everything apparently. What a special number. Indeed, because what's with sweet 16s and the monene? I almost had enough cash to fund the creation of Yumeria at they rate they were going with it. The only good thing so far about this is having Kikuko Inoue with that motherly voice we all recognize her for. Otherwise, the plot is pretty boring, and the harem setting almost does nothing for me. Although admittedly
Mizuki's joke about how Mikuri's dreams are an embodiment of his desires was a funny explanation for the plot.

Actually, I have more questions regarding the harem setting than anything about the plot. What's Mikuri and Mizuki's prior relationship before this encounter we're shown? Why was Mikuri even giving us a boring self-introduction about himself of being a virgin when he somehow managed to corralled this girl, Mizuki, by the time he was in high school? And she's an honor student apparently, so how did he succeed to do this? Is Mizuki even important or is Mone the most important girl character?
Probably Nanase
Or is Mizuki the harem requirement to make this a harem setting and nothing more? In any case, the heroines are dull.
Ah, but will you continue watching it? The fact that you've bothered to formulate your thoughts and write them up suggests yes.

I guess that answers my question.

How toned down is the banter compared to the novels? When I was comparing the Hitagi arc to the anime version, Senjougahara's verbal abuse of Koyomi seemed a lot harsher in the novel.

I wish an english publisher would pick up the Monogatari series.

Hidenori monologue was so good. Thank you based Sunrise.

I want to like that P4's selling, I really do, as it means that Atlus will give in to the idea of adaptations with even less reluctance, but it's such a shit cash-in. (No offense to those watching; aesthetically, it just is. 100% troof.) If not wanting to even remotely see any more shit from Atlus like this is wrong, I don't want to be right.

If anything it's sending the message that it doesn't matter if your show is a cash-in because it's going to sell really well anyway.

Nise 5
I don't like this, I'm starting to question if I even liked Bakemono. I think I liked the youkai stories in Bake.. I liked that the youkai stories were presented in an interesting way but don't find anything enjoyable about the characters. Now in Nise the focus changed to the characters I find myself really bored by the whole thing.

The focus on Bakemonogatari was the characters though - the 'youkai' parts of the story played a minor roll. It's just that Nisemonogatari isn't nearly as well paced as the original show and the pacing is far worse. It used to be two episodes (roughly) per character story, whereas here we've had five episodes of meandering around.

Tatami Galaxy 7

It's nice to see events from a new perspective, but I feel like we just keep going back over old ground. The protagonist's chronic cowardice is starting to occasionally annoy me.

There's never anything wrong with any individual episode, and I still love its aesthetic sense, but it's just being a tease at this point. I feel like I could skip to the last episode if I wanted and I'd be set, but I'm not going to because that is weakness. You have to keep giving me something back, Tatami Galaxy! You can't start out strong and then faff about!

In pizzaroll's love of FLCL, I sensed the possibility of a kindred spirit. I wonder if I'll end up feeling the same way about Yuasa as he does.

Holy fucking shit this is easily the best damn episode yet goddamn I cannot believe how fucking bro this thing is.

One of these days I will have to check out at least one episode of Daily Lives, Another and Space Pirates. Maybe. If I ever have the time. I feel bad not at least trying some of these semi-popular shows.

What's Another about? I'd give it a try, but just from the aesthetics, it kinda looks like one of those pseudo-deep talk-a-lot not-scary-at-all philosophical sort of anime, which I mostly don't like at all. Then again for all I know, it could be Monster in a horror variant. Sell me on it.

It has yet to be scary to me but everyone is different. Try it and see what it does for you.

Theoretically you could, but each episode is strong on it's own even though they don't 'move the plot' as it were. There is a set of episodes that I feel might be going over the same ground too heavily, but most of the time they managed to tell a different story every episode.

Only one of these shows has K-On movie jokes.

Its one of those music makes everything scarier than it really is things. Id suggest giving two episode a try, I thought it was an odd anime on episode 1 with limited appeal but 2 really set it up, oh and main character is cool as well as the other classmates. Best Monday anime.

It's pretty slow. The atmosphere is there, but that's pretty much all that's there 90% of the time. The first 2 episodes are also uneventful, but at least something biggish happens in the 3rd.

I can't think of a time when I've ever been scared by any anime. Have you? I've seen some works that makes me tense, like Ghost Hound, but that's different.

Certain Arcs in Ghost Hunt definitely freaked me out. Horror in Anime can definitely work I just feel Another lacks any kind of tension or subtlety.

Nope and nope. At least, not outwardly. I'm sure there are lots of philosophical questions writhing beneath the surface, but the show doesn't seem interested in addressing them.

The scariness comes in two main flavors: tense, oppressive atmosphere and Final Destination style deaths.

Sell me on it.
It's not really the kind of show that you'd try to sell someone. Unless you're Unknown Soldier.

Latest Bleach.. FUCKING AMAZING. DAT FIGHT SCENE. PERFECT, apart from censoring that arm thing, kinda killing the ruthless ichi-berry mood...

This show is surprisingly consistent with how funny it is. Really enjoying it. Only skit that didn't really work this week was probably the rubber band one.

Maybe I'm just feeling negative because I'm in the middle of that set, where
the protagonist has to choose between three women
.

I'm not a person who needs plot. Episodic stuff is wonderful. It's certainly working for me with Trapeze. But each episode still has to provide some new experience or insight for it to resonate, and feel like it belongs in the series. Tatami Galaxy usually manages to provide that (in fact, I really liked the episode before this one), but here it was just spinning its wheels.

See, my hatred only serves to warn.

Slow? But its just eleven or so episodes. How much faster could it be?

Only real con of the show is the opening.

First 2 episodes was just alot of chattering, I'm not even sure they were building the world either way completely forgettable stuff, then you look at the fact that it took 5 episodes to get an explanation of what is going on in the class of which they could have done so directly or indirectly before people started popping their clogs, and we've only started to get to the real meat of the mystery in the latest episode.

Ano Natsu - 5

yusss the rom-drama will step up a notch

sad-kanna is so moe

Sad Kanna crushes my heart every time she's on screen. I just feel horrible.

The end of this past episode and the whole episode itself was really good and pushed things forward a lot. Also dat Remon trolling.
