Welcome to the NeoGAF Anime Community thread. Conversation for all anime, old and new, is welcome. If you're uncertain what to watch just give us a shout, we're willing to help! But if you want to get started straight away why not try checking out the shows listed below and joining in on their ongoing discussion. Just remember, don’t be a crude lewd.
Like the box of chocolates you received for Christmas, there’s a variety of flavours to be had this season. Here’s a selection of shows the community has hedged their bets on. Let’s hope no one accidentally picked the coffee one.
1. Active Raid: Kidou Kyoushuushitsu Dai Hakkei
A story of a police force that uses giant (CG) robots to fight the rise in crime and a woman's attempts to rehabilitate said police force, which apparently hasn't been doing its job very well. On one hand, the premise looks to have some elements of Patlabor in it, so perhaps there's a chance some quality storytelling could come of this. On the other hand, the premise looks to have some elements of Patlabor in it, and you should probably just watch that instead.
2. BBK/BRNK (Bubuki Buranki)
Returning to Japan after having been away for 10 years, Azuma Kazuki finds himself attacked and captured by armed strangers. What saved him was his childhood friend, the girl Kogane Asabuki, and the Bubuki that had become her right hand.
3. Dagashi Kashi
Summer, sweets, air conditioning. The lives of Hotaru and Kokonotsu intertwine through an endless march of expectations, dollar store candy, & the ever crushing chains of hopes and dreams binding us all from our destiny of running a run-down Dagashi.
4. Dimension W
In 2071, the world's energy problems have been solved by coils that extract infinite energy from the mysterious dimension W. Recovery specialist Kyoma and coil android Mira join together to fight the powers of illegal coils.
5. Divine Gate
When the Divine Gate opened, the living world, the heavens, and the underworld became connected, ushering an era of chaos where desires and conflict intersect. To restore order, the World Council is formed. As peace is restored, the Divine Gate becomes an urban legend. In that world, boys and girls deemed fit by the World Council are gathered. They are ones who aim to reach the gate for their personal objectives. Those who reach the gate can remake the world. What lies beyond the gate? When they reach the door, will the world change? Will it be the past that changes, or will it be the future?
6. ERASED (Boku Dake ga Inai Machi)
Struggling manga author Satoru Fujinuma is beset by his fear to express himself. However, he has a supernatural ability of being forced to prevent deaths and catastrophes by being sent back in time before the incident occurred, repeating time until the accident is prevented. One day, he gets involved in an accident that has him framed as a murderer. Desperate to save the victim, he sends himself back in time only to find himself as a grade-schooler one month before fellow classmate Kayo Hinazuki went missing. Satoru now embarks on a new quest: to save Kayo and solve the mystery behind her disappearance.
7. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (Hai to Gensou no Grimgar)
Haruhiro first awakes in complete darkness. He doesn't know where he is, how he got there, or even where he's from. The people around him are just as lost. Beyond the darkness is the game-like fantasy world of Grimgar, a land they've never seen before. With no memories, no money, and no special gifts, these individuals need to find a way to survive this harsh world they've been thrown into.
8. Myriad Colors Phantom World (Musaigen no Phantom World)
In the near future, spirits and monsters are in full sight. A boy leads a group of people with special abilities as they plot against a massive organization that takes advantage of a certain incident and eventually know the truth about their world in the process.
9. Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R
A show that promises to combine everything great about anime; humour, idols, magical girls and daily life, in one neat package. When idol Komugi Yoshida comes across the injured mysterious creature going by the name of Usa-P she nurses it back to health. As thanks Usa-P turns Komugi into a magical girl with magical powers. Soon she’s fighting off masked goons, but that’s not all as on top of that more magical girls have also popped up to challenge her! It’s a battle of balance as Komugi prepares to face off against rival idols, magical girls and homework!
10. Please Tell Me! Galko-chan (Oshiete! Gyaruko-chan)
Hyouka is dead, but three girls of clans Gal, Otaku, & Oujo persevere through this bleak hell seeking the answers to life’s most mundane and self-centred mysteries.
11. Pandora in the Crimson Shell (Koukaku no Pandora)
When Nanakorobi Nene, a cybernetically enhanced girl-next-door, heads to the island metropolis of Cenancle to live with her aunt, she has no way of knowing what's in store for her. A chance meeting intertwines her fate with that of the super-rich inventor, Uzal Delilah, and her adorable and grumpy companion, Clarion, who happens to be a cyborg just like Nene. Nene is thrilled to make a friend, but there's more to Uzal and Clarion—and the island of Cenancle itself—than meets the eye. When a super-powered terrorist threatens Cenancle, Uzal claims that the only way to avert disaster is for Nene to team up with Clarion and use their combined powers—abilities Nene never even knew she had.
12. Prince of Stride: Alternative
This otome game adaptation focuses on the fictional sport of Stride, an urban parkour relay race, and the attempt to reestablish Honan Academy's Stride team so they can compete in the End of Summer competition.
13. Sekko Boys (Sekkou Boys)
A new idol group that's really going to turn heads. With their chiseled pecs and stoney stare, you could almost mistake them for statues. Well, except that is exactly what they are. Saint Giorgio, Medici, Hermes and Mars make up the The Sekkou Boys and they're ready to rock your world.
14. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
Adaptation of the winner of Best General Manga in the 38th Kodansha Manga Awards, this series tells the tales of several people involved in the traditional Japanese comic storytelling art of rakugo in the 1970s. It begins with an ex-yakuza just released from prison who becomes the apprentince of an elderly rakugo master.
15. Sushi Police
In the criminal justice system, Japanese food is represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the foreign restaurants which serve poor imitation sushi, and the elite Section 9 investigators who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories.
16. Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle (Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut)
Lux, a former prince of an empire named Arcadia that was overthrown via a rebellion five years earlier. Lux accidentally trespasses in a female dormitory's bathing area, sees the kingdom's new princess Lisesharte naked, and incurs her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Drag-Rides are ancient armored mechanical weapons that have been excavated from ruins all around the world. Lux used to be called the strongest Drag-Knight, but now he's known as the "undefeated weakest" Drag-Knight because he will absolutely not attack in battle. After his duel with Lisesharte, Lux ends up attending the female-only academy that trains royals to be Drag-Knights.
