Like the box of chocolates you received for Christmas, there’s a variety of flavours to be had this season. Here’s a selection of shows the community has hedged their bets on. Let’s hope no one accidentally picked the coffee one.

HY3gGA4.png

1. Active Raid: Kidou Kyoushuushitsu Dai Hakkei
zICBjuj.png

A story of a police force that uses giant (CG) robots to fight the rise in crime and a woman's attempts to rehabilitate said police force, which apparently hasn't been doing its job very well. On one hand, the premise looks to have some elements of Patlabor in it, so perhaps there's a chance some quality storytelling could come of this. On the other hand, the premise looks to have some elements of Patlabor in it, and you should probably just watch that instead.

2. BBK/BRNK (Bubuki Buranki)
zICBjuj.png

Returning to Japan after having been away for 10 years, Azuma Kazuki finds himself attacked and captured by armed strangers. What saved him was his childhood friend, the girl Kogane Asabuki, and the Bubuki that had become her right hand.

3. Dagashi Kashi
if51RD4.png
yoVHwbp.png

Summer, sweets, air conditioning. The lives of Hotaru and Kokonotsu intertwine through an endless march of expectations, dollar store candy, & the ever crushing chains of hopes and dreams binding us all from our destiny of running a run-down Dagashi.

4. Dimension W
if51RD4.png

In 2071, the world's energy problems have been solved by coils that extract infinite energy from the mysterious dimension W. Recovery specialist Kyoma and coil android Mira join together to fight the powers of illegal coils.

CYODXKA.png

5. Divine Gate
if51RD4.png

When the Divine Gate opened, the living world, the heavens, and the underworld became connected, ushering an era of chaos where desires and conflict intersect. To restore order, the World Council is formed. As peace is restored, the Divine Gate becomes an urban legend. In that world, boys and girls deemed fit by the World Council are gathered. They are ones who aim to reach the gate for their personal objectives. Those who reach the gate can remake the world. What lies beyond the gate? When they reach the door, will the world change? Will it be the past that changes, or will it be the future?

6. ERASED (Boku Dake ga Inai Machi)
zICBjuj.png
yoVHwbp.png
if51RD4.png

Struggling manga author Satoru Fujinuma is beset by his fear to express himself. However, he has a supernatural ability of being forced to prevent deaths and catastrophes by being sent back in time before the incident occurred, repeating time until the accident is prevented. One day, he gets involved in an accident that has him framed as a murderer. Desperate to save the victim, he sends himself back in time only to find himself as a grade-schooler one month before fellow classmate Kayo Hinazuki went missing. Satoru now embarks on a new quest: to save Kayo and solve the mystery behind her disappearance.

7. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (Hai to Gensou no Grimgar)
if51RD4.png

Haruhiro first awakes in complete darkness. He doesn't know where he is, how he got there, or even where he's from. The people around him are just as lost. Beyond the darkness is the game-like fantasy world of Grimgar, a land they've never seen before. With no memories, no money, and no special gifts, these individuals need to find a way to survive this harsh world they've been thrown into.

8. Myriad Colors Phantom World (Musaigen no Phantom World)
zICBjuj.png

In the near future, spirits and monsters are in full sight. A boy leads a group of people with special abilities as they plot against a massive organization that takes advantage of a certain incident and eventually know the truth about their world in the process.

RjAkRyV.png

9. Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R
zICBjuj.png

A show that promises to combine everything great about anime; humour, idols, magical girls and daily life, in one neat package. When idol Komugi Yoshida comes across the injured mysterious creature going by the name of Usa-P she nurses it back to health. As thanks Usa-P turns Komugi into a magical girl with magical powers. Soon she’s fighting off masked goons, but that’s not all as on top of that more magical girls have also popped up to challenge her! It’s a battle of balance as Komugi prepares to face off against rival idols, magical girls and homework!

10. Please Tell Me! Galko-chan (Oshiete! Gyaruko-chan)
zICBjuj.png

A chance meeting intertwines her fate with that of the super-rich inventor, Uzal Delilah, and her adorable and grumpy companion, Clarion, who happens to be a cyborg just like Nene. Nene is thrilled to make a friend, but there's more to Uzal and Clarion—and the island of Cenancle itself—than meets the eye. When a super-powered terrorist threatens Cenancle, Uzal claims that the only way to avert disaster is for Nene to team up with Clarion and use their combined powers—abilities Nene never even knew she had.

yoVHwbp.png

8g3N1zx.png

13. Sekko Boys (Sekkou Boys)
zICBjuj.png

A new idol group that's really going to turn heads. With their chiseled pecs and stoney stare, you could almost mistake them for statues. Well, except that is exactly what they are. Saint Giorgio, Medici, Hermes and Mars make up the The Sekkou Boys and they're ready to rock your world.

14. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
zICBjuj.png

Adaptation of the winner of Best General Manga in the 38th Kodansha Manga Awards, this series tells the tales of several people involved in the traditional Japanese comic storytelling art of rakugo in the 1970s. It begins with an ex-yakuza just released from prison who becomes the apprentince of an elderly rakugo master.

45Dx2oE.png

Lux accidentally trespasses in a female dormitory's bathing area, sees the kingdom's new princess Lisesharte naked, and incurs her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Drag-Rides are ancient armored mechanical weapons that have been excavated from ruins all around the world. Lux used to be called the strongest Drag-Knight, but now he's known as the "undefeated weakest" Drag-Knight because he will absolutely not attack in battle. After his duel with Lisesharte, Lux ends up attending the female-only academy that trains royals to be Drag-Knights.

It's Winter time! Can't believe it's already been 1 year since Yurikuma. I miss it ;_;

Hopefully I can finish up my Eupho writeups soonish.

The main thing that matters is that Chiaki Omigawa already has two VA roles in anime this year, one in Haruchika and one in Bungo Stray Dogs.

Also from the old thread:

"AnimeGAF is weird they're always making weird recommendations like boku no pico and bible black! laughing it up with their loli moe shows!!"

My sister's personal trainer asked for some anime recommendations and she told him to watch School Days. I feel like i've done a good job being an older brother.

Great OP BGBW.

With Shaft being famous for going the extra mile to stay close to the original character designs, I can't wait to see the anime designs for March Comes in Like a Lion.

What is PSO2 ?

Phantasy Star Online 2.

MSG Blood Orphan 13

That funeral scene is really nice. Mika being a boss with him killing that mad max villain reject and kissing Kurdelia.

Osomatsu-san13

First skit is depressingly weird
2nd skit is gender bender episode, not bad.
3rd skit, translator probably having fun with this one. Alexfapper Graham Bell. lol
That animation after Choromatsu threw broth at Osomatsu face is really good.

Wow, that is a really nice OP.

Good job BGBW.

So, quite a few people are saying this is a down season, and winter typically is.

What show are you guys looking forward to the most though?

I'm hoping Dimension W and Grimgar are interesting.

Since the old thread gets closed anyways, I just copy my post in here:

Over time, more and more people are appreciating the work that is Durarara. Are you watching the dub by any chance?

Nope. I just paused it. Main reason for sub, I watched S1 years ago and that's only available with subtitles in Germany. When S2 finally airred I watched 2 episodes and understood nothing because I forgot everything. I knew the chars, but I forgot who knows whom and why and what they were doing, except for the 3 big arcs (Dullahan, Slasher, Gang War). So I finally got my hands on the german release of S1, watched that again, watched S2 part 1 and started with S2 part 2 - and paused that after 2 or 3 episodes. xD

I am now simply finishing up. DRRR!! is still not as good as Baccano! :(

I missed the 3gatsu no Lion staff announcement.

I'm... conflicted. I don't want Shinbo's box of tricks on one of my favourite manga series, frankly. This is not a head-tilt story.

Umino has enough of a sense of visual creativity herself and a very particular visual design that seems so alien to everything SHAFT does these days. In fact the entire series seems so alien to everything SHAFT does these days - a josei-inflected noitaminA-style story? From SHAFT?

While NHK is undoubtedly a good fit as a network for the story, I'm really quite dubious. I await the first shots of what the show will actually look like with interest.

Our weekly stream will watch this:

Sushi Police
Boku dake ga Inai Machi
Dimension W
Sekkou Boys
Dagashi Kashi

Additionally, we decided to add in one anime that aired 10 years ago (so Winter 05/06). We decided to watch this:

Nerima Daikon Brothers

Aside from that, I will at least take a peak at the following shows:

Ajin
Durarara!! x2 Ketsu
Gate S2
Schwarzesmarken (without knowing anything about MuvLuv)
Musaigen no Phantom World (maybe, because KyoAn)

I won't watch Akagami S2, I found S1 rather boring.

OP looks great.

I guess I'll be watching:

Dagashi Kashi because it looks like the most fun out of these shows
ERASED because it sounds interesting
Phantom World because I liked the ponytail girl

I'll also give Ajin and Active Raid a try too.

Of course, there's also Kizumonogatari and Koyomimonogatari. :)

YuriYuriS2. Episode 04 - I lost it when they got splash with water and Akarin did not. Like holy shit, still so good.

What show are you guys looking forward to the most though?
Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm – Not expecting good adaptation but will watch just for that god soundtrack and more Misaki. Could be great sport anime if they don't f up.
Haruchika – PA Works. Still don’t know but will watch cause PaWork. Like Glasslip.
Musaigen no Phantom World - I like studio behind.
Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut - Am I looking forward to this?
Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya o Mezasu - Character deigns = insta watch. And plot is right up my alley.Sure.
and Dagashi Kashi (I like her character design :) )
I usually try to sample everything that I can though, so if it sticks I'll watch even if it is bad.

Dagashi Kashi and Koyomimonogatari are the two shows this season I will watch for sure. Add that Kizu screening in two weeks and I have more than enough to watch this season.

In for KyoAni's best show.

Not really looking very forward to anything. Will watch Koyomimonogatari, will try Showa cause it looks almost like an only show worth a damn this season and will check out if Dagashi, and Phantom are the bearable kinds of crap.

The only shows I'm really looking forward to are Durarararararararararararara and Sekkou Boys. Will still try most of the stuff tho.
