It has a very weak beginning especially with how they keep switching character perspectives at the start, but it becomes a lot better at around episode four or five though.
Additional wiki reading is probably needed if you want to understand everything otherwise, it is a really fun ride.
Holy fuck at those Horizon novels.... That shit if never going to be fully animated, especially since the author is still churning out a lot of novels.
Bit the bullet and signed up for Hulu Plus to finish Ah! My Goddess. Commercials aren't bothering me nearly as much as I thought they would, mainly cause I like to browse GAF even while watching anyway. And they were over midway through typing this post.
I don't like Taiga at all, and it's not just because she has no boobs. I'd hate her even if she had tits the size of her head. I like the other characters though, so I hope Taiga gets better.
Maybe it's because I used to be such a space fanboy, but I feel like the movie captures a lot of what I want the show to capture. Yeah, there are so many changes and the ending is basically a "we need to end this movie even though the manga will probably take 20 years to get to this conclusion" type of ending, but I feel like the moments where they try to be earnest works fairly well.
I guess to avoid series spoilers, I'll just talk about generalities, but it has such a great opening intro sequence:
If you are a NASA history dork, it's like someone made an AMV with space footage, but added some production values and graphics to make it look really slick. Funny enough, it reminded me of the early CoD tech porn montages (or maybe the CoD:WaW montages) but used to much better effect.
Probably the biggest worry I had was that this would be cheap, because it's a Japanese movie. I don't think this is too much of a spoiler:
So at least they film on location. Thank god. And speaking of which, the English is actually passable. It's what I wish they did for the anime... but if the anime is for children, then I suppose forcing children to read subtitles for large sections of the anime is a non-starter. Still, I'm glad it's not a bunch of Japanese people pretending to be white people while speaking Japanese and trying to get us to believe that it's English. Everyone is race and language appropriate - thank god.
The space porn is good. I'm sure if this was some big budget 200 million dollar movie, it'd look better (I guess there's a moon landing sequence in one of the Transformers films?), but I thought it looked great.
3d Serika is still always hungry.
Oh, and the biggest surprise to me was this:
I really can't believe they got
Buzz Aldrin to show up and the way they use him fits exactly with what happens in the anime as well. This scene totally makes up for the shitty ME3 ending and makes me wonder if he literally just phoned in the "my sweet" moment in that shitty, shitty game.
I'm not going to say he'd win any kind of acting award, but he actually gave a decent and inspiring speech about space exploration. In English no less.
I also like that they basically expect the Japanese audience to know who he is. Either you recognize him as one of the most famous human beings in the 20th century or you don't. And if you don't, you probably wouldn't be watching a movie called Space Brothers anyway.
I'm really surprised. The last Japanese movie I watched was Usagi Drop, which turned out fairly well, and this came out pretty good too. Too bad about that MariMite movie. lol

For anyone who's seen both the Space Brothers live-action movie and has kept up with the anime so far, could you please guesstimate about how many minutes of the movie take place after where the anime currently is now?

No idea if it's any good, but I can appreciate an author putting so much work into creating a world that they got so much material out of it and such a reference is needed.
(But I hope the quality merits it, so it's not a waste of people's time, ha)
It's good. I'm not going to say it's the best thing ever, but it captures the spirit of the anime and does it in a way that makes sense for a movie (outside of the ending).
Drinking booze at a playground. That's why Urd is so awesome.
The disappointment at a cliched "character becomes young again" plot dissipated as soon as I saw just how adorable Urd was as a child. And she isn't adorable in a moe way, either. It's more that she just acts like she was actually kid again. Her little romance with that kid was primo hhnnnnnggg material. And that scene at the end where grown up Urd gives him that kiss on the forehead...yeah. Best part was Keiichi watching with that "The fuck is going on with this?!" face.
Minor question: How the hell did tiny Belldandy not get blown off Keiichi's shoulder when he was on his motorcycle?
Won't be able to catch 26 tonight. Going to bed. Looking forward to seeing it.

I'm gonna check it out too. Hopefully it's more entertaining than the show, which I dropped after about 8 or 9 episodes. I also dropped the Ace Attorney movie halfway. It was okay, actors were chosen well, but the mood was all wrong. It went from lighthearted comedy/drama to wannabe serious/dark drama. That and it was boring as hell.
I heard the author wrote a fuckload of notes for the Horizon Team @ Studio 8 during the production of both seasons. He was really involved in the process of the anime, and it was still confusing as fuck at first.

Well one of the main problems was that they faithfully adapted the first chapters which was written with switched character perspective hence why it made no sense. They could have easily went with a method that actually explained stuff but instead choose to just follow the novels. It still works out in the end.

I don't know if it's "better" than the show inasmuch as the movie takes the best parts of the manga and chooses to focus on those moments rather than try to adapt every single thing possible.
(Okay, maybe I am saying that it's better than the show. lol)
If you did like what the show was about though, this is a good version of that story.
Yeah, I was afraid to show the movie's big hand, but I realized this would be the only way to get people to watch the movie so I don't feel too bad about it. lol
Well, that was something! I'm watching this on sonicmj's indirect recommendation. I read some bare bones on the premise and for the most part its first episode played out as I expected, but that didn't prevent me from having some fun seeing people beat the crap out of each other for a cheap meal. I'm sure it wouldn't be out of place to desire even crazier fights from here on out as Yō learns what it truly means to fight over supermarket discount food.

I've posted this before, but the song Sadness M-26, has constantly been in my playlist since viewing Gunbuster. To me, it's a perfect cinematic track that encompasses the feeling of death and sacrifice. I love me some downer music <3

It's seems pretty weird they'd leave such a pivotal plot point to two OVA's bundled with the Limited Edition prints of the manga but whatevs. The ED had BASED YUI, doll loli, shogi, sumire, akari, the worthless hinoki, and sexswimming hair. S3 GET HYPE.

Well this shit is never going to get fully animated lol. It has to eventually drop off in sales and even if it maintained it I'm sure Studio 8 will grow sick of it eventually.
Well I'm guessing at the time they made it the possibility of a 3rd season was fuck all, how were they to know that Shogakukan were going to throw more money down the drain for a 3rd season.
Anyway the OVA came with the L.Es.... so.
7. The World God Only Knows #20 (89,698 /89,698)
28. The World God Only Knows Limited Edition #20 (42,877/42,877)
So nearly 43k own the Tenri anime while fuck all bought the anime seasons lol.... wonder what the price is on the L.E... obviously nowhere near an anime volume... I mean 450 yen for a manga volume and 7500 for an anime volume and they wonder why it's hard to attract manga fans...
Also what has the anime now covered in term of manga chapters for TWGOK? Anyone got a list?
