I'm going to choose to believe that Koji Masanari is a broken-hearted shell of a director just going through the motions after Welcome to the Space Show flopped as badly as it did, particularly given how much effort and attention to detail was poured into that movie.

But, hey, this is rarely an industry which actually rewards effort.

He should have learned from Iso and just fucking retired himself if he didn't feel like contributing anymore. No show > fucking garbage show.

Very few industries reward effort.

Since we're on a gaming forum, I would say the gaming industry does semi-decently.

And now I'm sure that someone is going to argue about Obsidian.

I dunno. Companies like EA can just churn out Call of Duty and Maddens all day and sell them like crazy. Those big budget games dont take much creative effort, just a lot of time.

Well that's always going to be the case in any industry, in that big budgeted stuff is going to sell well. I mean the reason why COD took off as a franchise was due to how well polished COD4 was. However smaller games that are produced well or do something unique, can thrive in the industry as well. Stuff like Minecraft does fairly well.

The number of great lower budget titles ignored even inside niche gaming communities like GAF is immense. At least with stuff like anime its small fanbase is familiar with a pretty healthy swathe of what's out there.
In other news, a new Queen's Blade - Vanquished Queens preview video is up. NSFWish.

It just looks like Rebellion, but a little less shit.

So the punching mechanism of the VTs not only looks like it functions like a gun but uses ammo too?
Dat ending and preview. Also dat :wonzo

That's odd. There's a million swimsuit videos on Youtube, animated and otherwise.

This was... Erm... I don't know what the right way to describe it is. That start was kinda disturbing.

There are limits for any field, especially large ones. I certainly think it's better compared to say anime or film in general.

Yes Precure 5 Gogo - some random episode I dunno

I missed Dokidoki on Sunday, so I decided to pull out the backlog to get my weekly fix.

What a terrible plan that turned out to be. I haven't seen much of GoGo; I did watch the movie, and I've picked a random episode maybe twice or thrice before. This episode was significantly worse than those. Good lord, I either had forgotten just how terrible the furries in this show were, or I got lucky the last few times I tried to watch it.

Literally the entire episode was dedicated to the two-and-a-half sided "love" between Nozomi, her teacher, and one of the mascots, Princess Pancake, or some such nonsense. The teacher is also a mascot, but has a human form. Of course, he doesn't use it while he's going on about how he wants to fufill Dream's dreams, because even little girls could firgure out how creepy that sounds if his speech wasn't masked by shouting COCOA every second word.

By the by, his verbal tic isn't even the worst one. That honour goes to the kid who shouts NUTS all day. There are like fifty fairies in this show, and they all have a different tic. I mean, I'm not that great at Japanese, but I should never have to rewatch sections of a children's show because I can't understand the characters (or rather, because the characters can't freaking speak properly).

tl;dr has there ever been a second season of something that was even somewhat good?

Futari wa Pretty Cure 16

Nagisa, stop saying "the pits". That phrase is stupid.

Major :cajun scene where Nagisa and Honoka were cleaning the erasers together. Now that's some high quality hnngghh there.

Another decent fight scene. Only question is how did Honoka mysteriously know the exact place to turn on the spotlights in that junkyard? Maybe she hangs out there on Sundays or something. Good that this time Poisony and Zakenna actually had decent reason to believe they had defeated Pretty Cure , though.

Well since doujin avatars came up again.

I did make some K-On ones, but I wasn't that pleased with them. The source is good and I would recommend it, but the avatar potential was not meant to be.

I have found that it's best to just let inspiration strike rather than trying to hunt down avatar potential.

Find better sources next time.

Yeah that eraser scene was hnnngh.
I wondered that about the spotlight too. I call it Precure intuition. Or maybe honoka is just that amazing. I'm going with the latter.

Fighting the good fight against SHAFT. A true anime hero.

Shaft is keeping this industry breathing. They are heroes.

America and Japan have abandoned 2D animation, but it still lives on in the hearts of FRENCH PEOPLE.

This is seriously the best looking cartoon I've seen in quite a while.
They've come a long, beautiful way!

But that's cheating because those animators probably make decent money and don't have to sleep under their desk.
Lucky ones! They even had the friendly mice of their improvised studio at La Maison des Canaux, so they didn't feel lonely during the film's production.

But well, Les Armateurs had some good financing help, and that is why is good to have some governmental support (http://www.coe.int/t/dg4/eurimages/default_en.asp)! The Japanese aren't the only ones that can play that game... and being a co-production between three countries with their respective intranational organisms that provide funds sure makes it much more easy.

I love what it is and what it could have been! Anyway, there is little more to see on it apart from the scenes with the images wonzo posted and that music theme accompanying it all (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=48252470&postcount=4641), so you don't need much more than a couple of minutes to see the entire pilot. Having said that, I'm grateful to what Danielle T. (lyricaldanichan) did, as AnimeCon '91 former staff member and current one at FanimeCon, for taking on the effort of making available for fans around the globe the recording present on that old tape and shown at such one-of-a-time convention.

Ah, thanks for that. I remembered Articalys asking if anyone could think of any anime shows which had been seemingly cancelled but I personally couldn't think of any that I was aware of myself so I didn't reply. That was good timing.

I didn't realize it was as short as it was ( I probably should have given that it's referred to as a pilot) so I gave it a watch and it seemed like it could have been interesting. It certainly has that 80s look and feel to it. I re-read wonzo's post and he mentions there was a manga that came out of this as well. I just quickly looked it up and the designs there look even more so like Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's. I'll have to see if I can give it a read some time in the future as it doesn't look like it's too long.

Yeah, looked pretty standard Queen's Blade, though the fact that it stars the best QB girl makes me excited.
I guess the only thing that makes it disturbing is the lack of context and the fact they kick off the trailer with it. Also that's not Alleyne!
I haven't seen any QB save for the first couple of Rebellion episodes so I don't have much knowledge of the characters.
They're doing another season? :O

(Can't watch it right now since I'm at work)
New OVA.

But aside from a few more famous works like Panique au village, Triplets of Belleville, and The Illusionist, A Cat in Paris was a really pretty good and uniquely styled recent French animu movie which nevertheless received strangely little attention even after an Oscar nom. It's even on Netflix instant so no one has any excuses.
I still think that Mr. Sfar's cat is the best of the two! Really, Le Chat du Rabbin is totally recommended. The adaptation on the visual design was also handled in part by Zyk, companion of the very same Zaza whose blog I linked in my previous post, that worked as well on the aforementioned Ernest et Célestine.

Now that Yamakan has had his 5 minutes of praise, we can continue to forget about him again until the next controversial comment he makes about something! Lol.
I hope he continues making this... and it becomes a best-seller! So there could be some possible animation project on the future helmed by Mr. Hiramatsu himself.
Please, no "Hiramatsu is Anno's bitch now" remarks, I can't handle well the sad truth...

You are always welcome! Mr. Sadamoto's refrain will only take you a couple of minutes more than the pilot did, so go for it soon (http://www.evamonkey.com/route20/).

Now this is how you end an arc!
Some cool fighting this episode and not many instances of 'quality' ending and the preview/title for the next episode better deliver.

Just imagine they're potatoes!

Oh, and also Guy is slowly killing himself. But he's a TRUE HERO and that's just his fate. Also the train villain is named Polonaise. Now, you might be saying "You're 16 episodes in and don't know the name of Pasdar's 4?" Well yes, because that's a lot of Ps. I do know Pizza (I mean, it's hard to forget a villain whose introduction is "Your Pizza is here, master." and Penchinon (because his laugh is my nightmares.) But Polonaise and whatever the girl's name is aren't that notable.

Maturity, bitches.
I know I've gone on about how Hidamari Sketch has been a really hard show for me to get into. However I will say the OP is super catchy and you can't help clapping along.
