This show has the benefit of pre-established characters at least, so it can get right to whatever silly plot it is trying to establish. that is the good thing about it. Most everything else is not so good. The transformation sequence for example, has awful animation and is just not FUN to watch like the first one was. This was definitely a budget thing. Nagisa and Honoka almost seem to be stumbling through the motions. Its kind of hilarious. And also a little bit sad.
Some classmates laugh at Nagisa's drawing of a giant chicken.
Porun feels left out of the awakening.
Hikari stares at nothing as usual.
I don't trust that little kid with the Zakenna one bit!
The villain shows up with a monster chicken and beats the shit out of the Precures.
Porun runs to Hikari sensing some great power.
Its happening!

Either the former is just an inherently more interesting term, or because it implies striking a number of targets (i.e. posters) over a more widespread area (i.e. the thread) as opposed to a single-point all-destroying blast (i.e. total thread deletion).

It's quite possible tvtropes is missing quite a few examples in their list or it didn't happen as frequently as I thought it did. I'm not sure how new some of the shows listed are but I do recognize some so I guess it's still around but just not used really as often as it used to be. The Death Glare similar category almost seems more popular for now.

Carpet bombing is when you bomb a whole section of an area and who gets hit be damned. When WWII started it was heinous. When it ended it was standard warfare.
