I have aways wondered this but I've been too afraid to ask. So here it comes! What happened to Psygnosis? Did they change name or something? I remember playing Wipeout 2097 as a kid and I loved the game. Are they developing this?

Thx.

Absorbed into SCEE.

Sony Liverpool is Psygnosis, plus and minus many staff members over the last ten years.

If you loved 2097, you'll be right at home with Pure.

Wow, that video looked slick as hell. Just watching this video makes it feel like they've found their way back to the "roots". :)

Ah kk, thanks guys.

Just one more question, what have they done between 2097 and Pure?

Formula One 2001 (PS2) Racing 4th Quarter 01
Formula One 2001 (PSX) Racing May 25, 01
Formula One 2002 (PS2) Racing Nov 01, 02
Wipeout Fusion (PS2) Racing Jun 10, 02

I assume they also made (before being called "Studio Liverpool") Wip3out and Wip3out Special Edition. But I recall hearing something about a substantial number of people leaving the WipEout team after finishing 2097. Or maybe that was between the 1st and 2097?

The people who left the WipEout team formed Curly Monsters and made NGEN Racing on the PSX and Quantum Redshift on the Xbox.

:D

wow.. that video on the pure site is awwesome...
nice music too... CoLD SToRAGE???
mmmmm :)

WOWowowow.. best wipeout intro ever!!!!!
no... BEST INTRO EVER. Cant wait...

You went crazy over THAT video?!?! You ARE just joking, right? Very nice CGI animation and design I agree, but to go crazy over that is like... *sigh, no further comment.

Let's wait and see the main game.

You obviously don't know who you are talking to! :P

Looks nice but personally, I still wish DR helmed the AD.
One can't help but wonder what would they do nowadays. It would have to be something different, probably starkly different, or otherwise their presence wouldn't quite be justified.

I agree with you, actually, Marc. Michael C. Place is designbybuild now and another guy is over at universaleverything. Now that I think of it, DR hasn't done much of note in a few years at least...

Now, getting someone like Build or Universal Everything *would* be a great idea, but the current design is a little...well, cheap-tech and certainly dated.

Video was nice though.

Of course i went crazy for it, it's a new WipE'out. The Pure intro is very nice. It's similar to the intro for the first wipeout, it's about re-creation and not about destruction like all other wipeout intros since 2097, and that white ship is stunning I hope it's an unlockable.

The Design isn't too bad either, I thikn they are trying to recapture that 2097 feel and adding a bit of Wo3 and IMO they have done a marvelous job at it doing so.

The wait will be painfully long.

:D

Yeah, even in this video, for 2D overlays they use a lot of those little rotating tinkers, tiny moving gauges and other such stuff that does look dated. But they mix it with some really cool looking stuff. Maybe they are basing the whole design around this - remember that the game is supposed to be the 'back to the roots' of Wipeout.

I love the lighter, brighter, 'pure', tone of the game's visuals , though. Definitely like it a lot more than Wipeout Fusion, which just looked boring to me.

Hey, what happened to your web site, btw?

Why don't you visit their site www.psygnosis.com ;-)

Not really much people left. Most of them are still at Studio Liverpool. And the funny thing is, a big part of the Wipeout-team are german ;-)
That's the reason why I am visiting them as much as I can! :D They are really nice guys!

I was expecting KITT to turn up at the start with that music playing
:lol :lol So true!

I check Cold Storage's forum every so often to see if he's contributing any music for Wipeout Pure...so far there's no indication that he has or will, though he did say he had talked to SCEE about it.

http://www.coldstorage.org.uk/forum3/index.php

Some pretty cool discussions on that forum regardless for those who liked his music...plus you can grab MP3's for seemingly everything he's done on the gaming front. He's also working on an album that he's hoping to release in the next month or two.

BTW....how was WipEout Fusion??

I never played that game....

it would have been pretty damn good if it wasn't for all the bugs and slowdowns. f-zerox schools it pretty hardcore though. it's deff worth picking up for 20 dollars.

and the soundtrack was a huge dissapointment.

Bro, it's a CGI introduction with lovely design and that is all...

The point I'm saying is let's wait for actual in-game hardcore action. If we want a CGI galore splendeur video then all we need to do is look at Korean games. In other words, anyone can make a great CGI intro as how anyone can make great looking graphics these days so let's wait for the game.

Marconelly - And vice versa blud, vice versa!

Let's wait for those hardcore in-game action videos, if they're awesome then we can all go crazy with delight.

Wow, thanks for the link Shinobi! But one thing I'm curious about...I always thought Cold Storage was a name for the person who made the in-house music for WipEout games...rather than a free-lancing artist, I mean. And now he's making his own album? Did he go freelance now or something?

And I really, really hope Cold Storage will be making the music for WipEout Pure...as far as I'm concerned he always made the best songs for the WipEout games.

You got the URL blud so I can check them out?

Gamespot has a whole bunch of videos of gameplay from CES 2005. It looks nice but I don't get that Wipeout feel from this one for some reason it looks like it's running very slow paced... but I guess it's just me. Oh and whoever was playing the game in the video.. was really really bad :D

phantom has been said to run faster than W'o"2097's phantom, the Pure test group have complained that it's a little too fast.
I think those CES videos are from a slower class.
