Wired’s game of the year

How much would it cost for me to commission an artist to draw Aloy as the main character in Pentiment?
Or how about a Nun trying to Kiss Aloy in Pentiment.

On Thursday, the entire GOTY discourse will (probably, hopefully) peak with The Game Awards, the industry's Oscars. No matter what titles win, no one will be happy. Everyone's favorite game of 2022 stands to lose something. Pentiment isn't even nominated for Game of the Year. But you know what? I don't care. This isn't Highlander and I don't have to pick just one.
Cool. I'm glad you get that off your chest, SWAPNA KRISHNA

Wow, Pentiment is killing it. This game must be massively better than it seems to me or people doing GotY are all retarded.

Pentiment is a phenomenal game. There's more art and creativity in Pentiment, and much better writing, than in most GOTYs of the past decade. Haters can keep hating.

Haven't played Pentiment, but I'm looking forward to it.

I am currently playing Horizon FW, and aesthetically…it is incredible. Traversing different environments on an OLED is poetry in motion. The game has an insane number of meaty optional side quests, and the large and varied amount of enemies that seemingly raises the bar each time you meet a new one. Definitely one of those games you just have to savor. I'm almost 80 hours in and barely doing the Quest missions… I'm in no rush at all.

Yeah, I'll definitely read the reasoning for their vote after I complete the game. The fact that it is their GOTY doesn't surprise me one bit.

pentiment is good, i just wish it was a fully old school adventure game.

anything helping it to get attention is a positive.

I don't know why so many think a hive-mind is the best way to go. I mean, there are so many options these days, and so many different kinds of gamers. That is a good thing.

Pentiment is also my GOTY so far.

3 weeks left in 2022 but I think its a lock for me. Officially putting it over Bayonetta 3. Going to try and rush through Ragnarok and Norco

A sleeper GOTY choice huh?

*Immediately ignores all their gaming opinions*

Just screaming for attention. Next

Pentiment is a great game like bungee jumping is a good activity, meaning, it's specialized for a certain type of person who enjoys specific things (reading games in this case).

Does that make it worse? I don't know. I like it, but I have to be in a certain mood to play it. I have to play it before I go to bed or something when I am winding down. That takes it down a notch for me.

Horizon is a good pick. Great game and sequel. Improved on the first game on pretty much everything. Glad to see Pentiment scoring high. A surprise hit. Can't wait to get around to it (damn backlog is killing me).

And actually a split for the top spot makes sense. I almost did the same thing. Pentiment has a fantastic story and limited gameplay. Bayonetta 3 has fantastic gameplay and poor story. Together they represent two halves of the best of the year for me so I almost did the same thing this year. In the end after sitting on it, Bayonetta 3 while great is a sequel with many similarities to the past 2 even though Demon Slave is a huge addition. I had to put a new entry above it, and in the end I did enjoy Pentiment enough to barely put it over it. Barely. It was super close for me. Bayonetta 3 is so good. Triangle Strategy is my #3

Each time someone gives Horizon a GOTY award, something dies inside me
Most of my parts died after 20 hours of bad characters explaining stuff to me in the hub. The idiots see that these are farming robots but still don't get it.
The tech cult lady is just the worst. They tried to make her talia from me but she is not even a good parody.
I enjoyed the game still. It's more than sum of its parts but man… why would they bloat it so much

GOTY lists are the gifts that keep on giving. Regardless of what's on them or who wins what, imo it was a pretty damn good year for games all around.

I don't get why the article is posing this as some revelation. Gaming has long since had a wide array of genres, from text adventures to kart racers. Seems like this person broadened their horizons a bit because Pentiment has been getting hype, but that dosen't mean games have now crossed some threshold in variability where GOTY lists are ridiculous.

It's just for recognizing great games and it's something to talk about.

well said. definitely an acquired taste (i was into them a couple decades back, not so much at all since)...

really gotta wonder what kinda sleeper smash hit the zork trilogy would've been had it released this year, eh?...
