Witcher 3: Official Gameplay Trailer

Re: the "fuck off" line.

How come B-tier (comedy) writing becomes A-tier just because its in a video game? If that line was in a movie, it'd barely raise a smirk but because it's a video game, people are losing their minds over it.

It is not the line that is funny. It is because the situation pans out differently from what people normally expect in this case. Which is unearthing a vampire.

So yeah, as I said in another thread, Wild Hunt is shaping up to be the open world fantasy ARPG I've been waiting a long, long time for. Not entirely convinced it'll deliver, but the potential is there.

Either there are portions in this video that are from their June 2014 build or they have made zero changes in a year. I think it's the former

Maybe that scene was already perfect in their minds. Nothing about it makes you think they need to change it

Edit: Wonder how my rig will run it. I'm a solid bit above minimum but a step below recommended as I run an FX6300. My R9 280x should do fine though :)

It's probably also worth mentioning that the fact he was in a position to be privy to the information he gave doesn't necessarily mean it was accurate. Although not the most analogous situation, CBOAT doubling down on his Titanfall info that was ultimately proven to be bollocks is perhaps the most notable example of someone in the know spreading false information.

Wasn't it also a long while back? I've seen games pulling together into a beautiful product in the final stretch (last 3-4 months) from both content and performance point of view. So, him being truthful back then and the game coming out ok in the end could both be real.

I've gone from uninterested to "I'll check it out when it's $10" to wanting to buy it on launch in the span of a month. They have really good marketing.

I guess you missed this post

I did, but for this trailer seems to fulfill a different purpose. Just because it has a guy speaking doesnt make it the same kind of trailer.

The GTA, W3 and another trailer I cant remember the game right now sound more like infomercials. Something that plays in a waiting room at your doctors. I dont know, I guess people like it, but it rubs me the wrong way.

The trailer itself is still great, although I personally prefer their VGA trailer from 1.5 years ago.

They just took the exact same scene from the E3 trailer.

Your huge ass post in one of the threads is pretty much what I hope the game will be, so far it's on track :)

It flips expectations on their head and has perfect line delivery. This would be A-tier even in film or TV show like GoT or whatever. I have seen that trailer like ten times by now and I still chuckle when I see it.

Wait, people actually like the writing? I was cringing the entire time.

This trailer for The Witcher 3 was freaking great. EASILY the most hyped I've seen not only for The Witcher series but easily the best WRPG trailer I've ever seen. Can't wait!

I love the style of these narration trailers ever since the Red Dead ones. This looks more up my alley than W2, that game was way too focused on its story(which was good don't get me wrong). I loved W1.

Nah breh it is a good line

Correct me if I'm way off, but I'm guessing the PS4 version will be equivalent to PC's low/medium settings. And will be ~30fps and what res, 900p or 1080p ?

Wait, people actually like the writing? I was cringing the entire time.

Usually when people in fiction discover a vampire it is somehow either majestic or scary, but in here it was all kinds of anticlimactic so it fit the situation really well I think. It's just a line. A funny line. Not a big deal.

Nah, The Witcher 2's combat for me is vastly better than in the Elder Scrolls games.

It feels like some people are trying to rewrite history and sell this idea that the Witcher 2's combat is terrible. You're of course free to think that for yourself, but you need to recognize many of us enjoyed it quite a lot. Go back and read the reviews...sure there were some complaints about certain aspects, but the combat was generally praised and we'll received.

Don't know why you feel the need to put it like that. No one is needing to rewrite history and I don't know why other people enjoying something is bounds to stop discussion of a combat system. Being generally praised and well received... so what? Skyrim is well received and I would debate anyone that says it has good combat.

It's well done delivery. Go watch What We Do In The Shadows (vampire comedy), that's a critically acclaimed movie and it has similar dialogue. Just admit it, you don't find it funny, but this post of comparing to movies as if they're some high art that can't be touched is reaching.

Guys...I cant stop watching it.

I know the feeling, I've lost count.
Although I've switched to the Polish version, because the narration sounds way more fitting (And if it's the same robotic sounding, I can't tell anyway because I don't understand Polish).

GTAV needs to hurry up and arrive to distract me. Just a week or two will suffice and then I'll be neck deep re-reading the books, replying W1/2 and that should keep me distracted until release.

Did I read here that you can turn off the slow motion kills?

I hope that doesnt mean turning off gore too, because I want to chop limbs and torsos and heads but not in slow motion.

One very apparent thing that Witcher 3 seems to be doing better than Skyrim is the scale of the mountains. The mountains in the horizon actually look like mountains

I'm pretty sure the gore just happens. The slow motion kills are just on the last kill of a fight, so that should be separate from the dismemberment.

It really looks like it's going to be the game I wanted Dragon Inquisition to be.

Same here except I already started W1 & 2 . GTA and GoT should do til launch day.

OT should have a "It's 1358" title.

One graphical thing I've noticed at times is that peoples' skin under the armpit has some weird tiling going on:

On the other hand, this is the level of minor npc characters? Damn!

Hard to say with that Microsoft deal. But surely some outlet will get their hands on it and release some footage.
Hopefully. I've got both the PS4 and XB1 versions pre ordered since I have no idea which I'm gonna keep. I'm kind of leaning towards the XB1 CE due to the exclusive cards and physical map, but if the performance difference between the two is big enough I'll just go with the PS4 CE.

I watched the polish one and while the naration is better (no stupid "even racism"), the voice acting in game is not as good for me. The vampire joke especially, the delivery falls flat while it is funny in english version.
But yeah I am glad GTA comes to distract us from the excrutiating wait :)

GTA 5 had to start this really awfull trend of narrating over a trailer. Yes they want to explain the game to a new audience, but since this wont come on TV, who is gonna watch it? Oh, guess people who kinda know how games work.

And if they have to do this, at least get a voice that fits in the gameworld. She sounds like she wants to sell me insurance for my family. I mean they did the ESRB rating with Geralds voice, so I guess they understand the basic concept .... and then threw it out of the window because marketing guy said it has to be a sexy lady voice.

What they show in the trailer is awesome though, very well done, just get a better fitting voiceover next time.

Exactly. That's exactly how it sounds to me to. Like they're trying to sell me a product.

How many times do we have to be told about exactly what's going on on screen?

"Our game has small villages"
Game shows obvious small village

"... and winding mountain roads"
while geralt is on a mountain road

"something about sailing on an ocean or river"
I can see he's sailing a boat damn it.

"blah blah blah getting drunk"

I mean, how stupid are we?

Now I'm curious, how similar is Polish to Czech?

It's not tiling, it's the polygons there being stretched. It's a common issue with armpits in particular, because if you move your arm in certain ways the skin there stretches a ton and adding extra detail there to account for that is a huge waste of resources most of the time.
