Witcher: Blood Origin: Teaser trailer

The worst part of the existing show is whenever the writers go off and create something original.

It is typically sub-standard, not in line with the existing IP or lore, and relies on CW tier happenstance to resolve conflicts.

Now they are given a whole series to make shit up. Outlook doesn’t look good at all.

Does every trailer have to have a stupid slowed down, droning version of a pop song? I mean, it was cool when it was Mad World in the Gears of War trailer way back when, but it seems like ever since then, every Marketing department is like "yeah, let's do that."

The Witcher is so iconic because it offers deep slavic folklore. This is garbage.

Indeed, these are some horrible casting choices for a story based on Slavic paganism and mythology. The music choice is also f*cking braindead, why not something based on Eastern European folklore?

This looks like a cheap generic diversity LOTR ripoff.

I'm just gonna assume that most of the
baba yaga and monolith stuff in witcher s2
was a set up for this show.

Because they want it to appeal to a wide range of people all over the world. That means throwing in out of place, reworked pop songs and making it diverse as possible.

The alternative would be to cast Slavic actors and really go all in on the world's Slavic background, but no major studio would ever go for in this day and age.

I would bet money, the latter would appeal to a wider range of people all over the world and be a more popular and better quality show.

Why? If people watch korean death games tv shows, why would they not watch good quality tv rooted on slavic folklore?

Because if they went with a proper adaption and based the show on Slavic/Polish folklore, tradition and history, then the show wouldn't be diverse. Really as simple as that.

That is the reason why many shows are so horribly bland nowadays.
By trying to appeal to everybody, you only end up appealing to nobody.

Based on a collection of novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Although to be fair, his inspiration was more based on general European mythology. CDPR really went into the Slavic traditions and mythology when they turned the novels into games.

It's a show about wizards. You gonna tell everyone they can't have no black or Asian wizards cos of Slavic traditions? Shut up.

There are some fantasy shows coming out that you may be interested in that won't be diverse only to appeal to a large range of people.

Michael B Jordan's Black Leopard, Red Wolf is based on the novel of the same name (part of a trilogy) by Marlon James. It's an amazing book that is unfairly called an "African Game of Thrones", which doesn't do the book justice at all. It's set in a unique African fantasy setting and the cast will be cast to match the characters and setting of the book. Part 2 of the book comes out next year and Marlon James has confirmed the series has only been delayed because of Covid. It should be amazing if they manage to nail the tone and setting of the book.

Next up is the Netflix version of City of Brass. I'm not even sure if this is still going ahead, but I'm pretty sure it'll have a cast that matches the fantasy middle East world the series is set in. I haven't read it, but I've heard it's very good, so will be one to look out for if it still goes ahead.

A show about wizards? Where are the black and Asian wizards here? All I said is that it's diverse and moves away form the source material to appeal to a wide range of people, which makes perfect sense. My main issue with this trailer is that it looks cheap and bland.

It won't be like that for all fantasy adaptions, such as Black Leopard, Red Wolf that I mentioned above, but that again is totally understand in this day and age.

So if this is right after the confluence or whatever it was called that presumably pulled folks from across earth (and numerous other worlds, adding all the monsters) onto the Witcher planet (inhabited only by dimensional hopping elves at this point) then this COULD fit well into the Lore.

Conjuction of the Spheres. IF this is about that then it could be interesting but I have 0 faith in Netflix writers and producers.
As someone who has read all the books and played all the games I just can't get excited for this, S2 of the show was such a huge deviation from the books and Henry leaving was the final nail in the coffin.

I'm obsessed with the Witcher... I found the show tolerable but messy.. Henry made it enjoyable enough..
this looks like dogshit.

Man, every trailer for this thing just drives my interest in it lower and lower. And now they drag Jaskier into it?

About the only thing that could get me to watch it would be Spartacus level violence and nudity and I'm pretty sure we are getting neither with this.

Yeah this is such a grim fucking trend. It's just a matter of time till we'll get an ominous, grimdark version of Never Gonna Give You Up or Wake Me Up Before You GoGo. Besides that, nobody even ever knew the original version of Mad World before the Gary Jules one (wasn't it from Donnie Darko though, not Gears of War?)

I wonder if Henry Cavil's departure will ultimately hurt this show. I know I'm not exactly interested in Witcher stuff after hearing S3 will be his last season. Couple that with this show looking generic and I could not care less.
