Witchfire

I've had this in my wishlist for a while now.

Once it's on full release on Steam I'll pick it up.

Its on sale just now. Might as well add it to the ever growing backlog.

How far off 1.0 is it?

I believe they said early 2026

in the youtube video I saw on it did. had all those dumb numbers jump up when ever you damaged an enemy, I hate shit like this.

You can turn off any element of the UI that you want.

I'm about 8 hours in now, It's one of the great games. Very polished, excellent combat, great progression, loving the European-Catholic vibe.

it's good but after beating the first boss, it gets a bit aimless and the difficulty is not so well tuned. The third area is absolutely wrecking my shit, when I had no difficulties prior.

And, yeah, enemies get spongy if you're under level.

Yeah not very far in, but the combat seems decent so far and the atmosphere is top notch.

Apparently you have to level up your character and weapons. Then the game gets easier. You have to kill enemies, gain their souls and the extract yourself from the expedition and make your character very strong. That's my understanding of the progression at least

Amazing game. I've played everything up to this update. Not sure if I should jump in or just wait for 1.0

Starting to click. More of a single player extraction shooter than anything else so far.

Quite like it. Looks the part.

I stop playing because it was way too grindy.
Agreed, but i still like it alot.

To me it fells like a mix of Remnant 2, Painkiller and "Rogue Extraction"

Got a little bit of stuttering on the new map but otherwise it looks and runs well on an old 3080 (y)

I got this on the wishlist. But I don't see myself paying $40 for an early access roguelite game. I wish this rogue stuff would die off already.

For me, I love the genre but almost never play. I play a lot with family members and friends and we share experiences. Every person I know, down to the man, hates Roguelites. They hate the idea of them. They do not like "starting over" after death. I think this genre generates some really strong hate from a certain group of gamers.

I'm a fan of roguelites that provide good progression and good gameplay. It's just hard to find the motivation when everyone I know actively hates them. Hades is the goat for me. I can't say I prefer them over linear levels and integral character progression but honestly sometimes I do. It's about getting a good run going. It's about beating what at first seems impossible. It's about overcoming.

The hades games are the only ones I can stomach because there are bits of story elements revealed on each run, but besides that hearing a game is a roguelike is a huuge turn off

The game is really, really good (y)

Can´t recommend it enough even though i´m not a fan of roguelikes normally :messenger_bicep:

Undermine and Returnal are about the only two I go back to. I never play them enough to beat them though. I end up putting them down for months and months cuase it doesn't feel like real progress.

Yeah I like it as well. Game deserves more attention.
Agreed. I picked it up on sale because it was starting to look pretty interesting.

For those curious, it's basically single player offline Destiny with some light extraction elements on top. Weapon system feels closer to Dark Souls than Destiny, though- unlock a weapon, level it up.
If you die during an excursion, you drop everything you picked up and all of your Witchfire, but you can pick it up again on your next run. I love the aesthetic, the gunplay is solid, gameplay has some interesting tweaks to keep it interesting.
It also runs very well, which was a welcome surprise in 2025.
