What do you guys think? Is Bethesda mishandling / deteriorating the Elder Scrolls franchise? Are you okay with Elder Scrolls skiping a gen?.

Imo they are better off milking one game then milking a whole franchise with yearly entries filled with MTs and loot boxes and tacked-on multiplayer. (Thankfully ESO actually does exist for that.)

So yes I am more than okay with Elder Scrolls skipping a whole gen. It is in fact one of the most refreshing things I've seen in the AAA industry amongst an increasingly service-oriented trend.

Is there still the potential for screwing things over? Yeah, but this current move is not that yet. If they wish to make ES6 fit the ambitions that current tech can't provide, then I say let them take as long and slow as they effing want. Nirn is a beautiful world, and if they do screw it up, I would be more upset with that than if they had taken a decade to make the next mainstream entry.

Remember, as Pete Hines has said several times:
They stil have 2 new IP releases "as big as Skyrim and Fallout" to go, before ES6 is even released. Who knows when development will begin, but right now I am happy to let them think things over and build the game with a strong foundation over time.

Making a full-fledged, AAA open world, meticulously detailed RPG game is no small undertaking -- I am putting my faith in Beth's approach to keeping big, immersing single-player campaigns alive...(plz Beth.)

I don't think they care.

It's more like Skyrim is still selling like hot potatos and they're content with releasing it 780403236 times in the meantime, while working on other stuff on the side. In other words, TES 6 doesn't seem like a priority for them at all.

Definitely no. Their next game is almost certainly going to be a new IP releasing in the next couple of years.

They're making a new IP like TES right now.

They're years away from even starting development on TES6, of course it will be next gen.

That might be the company line, but there's no reason to take them at their word. Not in this business, and not when it comes to their primary cash cow. They'll announce it in two years and release it the following year.

I have a feeling it might be a cross gen or next gen exclusive game :/
I like Skyrim and all(I still play it in fact), but I would very much like a new game with new lands to explore.

Edit: would be neat if the next setting was Elsweyr, a nice contrast to Skyrim's landscape.

All I know is that they better include various regions in there. In a post Witcher world, a single region won't cut it.

It doesn't benefit them to admit that they're working on the new ES, then they would have everyone up their ass about it for the next few years.

This is the game industry. They lie and they make sequels. Also consider the Creation Club- that should be a clue that they are gearing up for the next ES.

AAA cost a hell lot of money these days. I could totally understand that we move to an iterative console cycle with a refresh every three years. Engines are more scalable than before.
