With Black Friday deals, some 32GB DDR5 RAM sticks are JUST a bit more expensive than a PS5 DE

Good thing I was ahead of AI. Already got my 64GB of RAM at the start of this year. AI is great guys!

I can sell my PC and buy a house.

At least these are affordable. I'm going to grab a pair to impress my friends with this status symbol.

I am so happy I got a new rig in August. Set for a few years.

There is always something on the horizon isn't there. The crypto boom, the sniffles, and now frickin AI.

What will be next?

Sit tight.

RAM manufacturers are delaying expanding capacity as they're waiting to see if this AI bubble is popping or if there's room for it to run a bit more. They don't want to be sitting on a mountain of depreciating product if a big fall is imminent. It also appears that the demand is coming from a very select few AI companies who are trying to hoard supply. If they come up against a financial squeeze then prices will correct very quickly. If you don't need to buy right now then don't feed into the "price go up" doom loop.

Fucking Sam Altman. If I ever run into that cunt in the supermarket I'm going to beat him to death with a frozen chicken.

AI has become a bigger problem than crypto and covid, combined.

Well. when that AI bubble finally bursts RAM, SSDs and graphic cards will be affordable again. Too bad we can't enjoy those good prices because when a trillion dollars goes up in smoke that will crash the stock markets, banks and ruin the economy....

Here in Mexico, we have a similar week... We call it El Buen Fin (The Good Weekend). And even with all the sales they advertised... Nobody went to buy anything.

The companies are now even more desperate... It's a race to the bottom.

I'm ready to buy a top-of-the-line foldable cell phone... But until I see some easy ways to get one, I'm not buying anything.

Video cards prices will be going up in price too because of this RAM shortage.

I hoenstly can't wait to see what the december deals look like when these coprorations realize people have fuck all in regards to spending money this holiday.

I guess I will be riding my 32gb with a 4070s rig until the damn wheels fall off. I refuse to take part in purchasing hardware at these prices.

I'm not fucking upgrading.

I have a 4070 ti super and 64 GB DDR5-6000 in mine and all I am thinking of doing is getting a new CPU. I really want a 9950X3D. Curious to see if the RAM squeeze causes a slowdown that might lower CPU prices due to people pulling back on new builds.

I remember when ram used to be cheap as chips.
I'm running 3000hz ram do 5000/6000 actually any performance uplift in gaming?
If not when I build a future pc I'll just reuse this ram.

TBH the only thing you're missing is more frames.

32GB is fine for even the heaviest games. There are no visual features you can't turn on with a 4070S, and should still be able to pull 4K/60 or high frame rates at 1440p, on almost everything, esp w/ DLSS + Framegen

Biggest concern is the 12 GB VRAM, which currently is still juuuuuust enough to max things out but won't be for much longer. My 7900XT has 20 GB and I think I've seen it go over 12GB utilization once

Visually/performance-wise still leagues ahead of consoles

Just looking through my Amazon orders, the first 32 GB I got for this PC cost me £175 in August 2021.
I reordered another 32 GB of the same stuff in October 2024 for £56.
Today that model is £190 and Amazon has a note on the page saying 'prices higher than typical'.

I just looked up my RAM kit on newegg and it's now on sale for $600, normally $640. That's insane as I paid like $200 a year ago!

Those of us who watched the dotcom bubble burst happen in real time are just getting the popcorn ready.
Oh shit, how old are you?

I thought I was on the upper end of the age scale here but I'm 42 and I was 12-17 when the doctom happened. I was aware of it but didn't understand all the implications (and by the time I was 17 I was very into computers).

I'm also outside the US. Did it have an impact in consumer grade equipment?

Crazy. I bought 32Gb corsair vengeance 6000mts cl30 for £126 in August.

Edit: just checked and it's £368 on Amazon right now 😮

"heavily discount". It's now the same price as launch in the USA for some models and 50 cheaper than 2020 launch in europe lmao.
I was of course referring to the current price being heavily discounted from the regular price, but isn't the disc version also cheaper right now than at launch?

Doesn't matter, we will see people on YouTube still trying to convice people you can build a PC with better specs than a PS5 at the same price...

LOL

Just like they think Steam Machine will be $400

I'm on 16GB RAM, 8GB VRAM, Switch 2, Series S. I'm not desperate for new hardware at all, but I'm getting worried what the state of affairs will be for years from this point.

It's tempting to grab a 5060ti 16GB and 32GB RAM right at what might be the last moment? Intelligently fueled fomo or just fomo? Thing is I don't really need it for games right now, I just don't want to run out of RAM later on and get destroyed.

It goes without saying and coming from someone who laughs at the PS5 before they are released, buying a PC brand new for gaming purposes should be on hold till further notice unless you find good prices for used parts.

Ram being as expensive as a whole console is a joke.

With that being said I think console prices will rise again because of ram

All i know is th secona PS6 is made available for preorder i'll be there. If it comes out in 2028 it will probably only have discounts that are bigger than its launch price by 2033 or something lol.
