I'll be giving it a fair shake as I like the director, the writer, and MBJ, but the initial buzz on the internets is not the greatest. There's a skinny woman Navy SEAL that's triggering a lot of people.

The book is a classic but looks like it's Without Remorse in name only as it's not adapting much of the original story.

Anyone give it a watch?

Gonna watch it tonight. I'll probably enjoy it since I love old school action movies, but I am bummed that it doesn't follow the book at all.

Watched it last night, it was pretty good. I was worried they would interject too much woke shit into it (Amazon doesn't have a great track record here) but overall I thought it was pretty good. Clearly they're trying to turn it into a series based on how it ends but the action was good, the story was good, acting on point.
I still can't help but see Wallace anytime I see MBJ but that's likely my love of the Wire influencing me.

We're gonna watch it sometime in the next week. When I work late it's harder for me to get a movie in on top of getting a Valve Index absolute consuming my gaming time.

Was this produced by his womxn and PoC production company, or did white men have a hand in it?

Eh, I guess I'll watch it. I like MBJ a lot and thankfully this isn't connected to Amazon's Jack Ryan. Season 2 of that show was WTF.

Any good? Or is it a straight to dvd trash movie

No this was originally going to be a big theatrical release by Paramount before COVID happened. They sold some of their movies (Coming 2 America and this) to Amazon and some to Netflix before deciding on the 45 day theatrical window -> Paramount+ model.

I wasn't a fan. Couple good stunt/set pieces but the script is utter trash. They could have just done a more faithful COMMANDO with Jordan as Matrix, that SEAL lady as Rae Dawn Chong, and Guy Pierce as Dutch and it would have been sooooooo much better :p

I am legit TERRIFIED what this crearive team will do to Rainbow Six. Literally shaking right now :p

Just being Tom Clancy makes me want to watch it, MBJ makes it a easy choice to watch but making it only on Amazon makes it hard.

Gotta go with thumbs down on this one. SEAL commander girl is basically co-lead with MBJ and she’s a total embarrassment in acting and plausibility throughout. The scene on the plane where she takes down MBJ with an arm twist while sitting down, Jesus Christ. Size 0 fashion model.

Setting all that aside, there are too many technical issues with the mil action to list here.

I’m fine with it being a totally different story than the original, and MBJ is good in it. But it doesn’t deserve the Tom Clancy prefix.

Was alrighty. Not great, but not terrible either. (Had the most brutal car accident I have seen in a while 🙈)

preferred the book and mix of plot lines to be honest and although well motivated, the film and mbj’s story felt very rushed.

the action scenes weren’t bad, but had a weird tempo to them. It felt like they went on too long and seemed to lack thrills (and I really liked some of them). The sometimes brutal combat reminded me of John wick and not in a bad way

good to kill a couple of hours, with but no hunt for red October (for me anyway). A sequel could work, but not with rainbow 6. That’s gotta be earned, maybe a couple of movies down the line.

besides, he needs ding to be backing him up 👍😎😂

John Kelly/Clarke, getting revenge for the death of someone he was close to, dressing up like a homeless drunk guy to do things.. That's about as close to the book as this got. It was a fun disposable film, but about as close to the book as Sum Of All Fears was (ie not at all, for the sake of making an action packed movie for the casuals). Disposable, except for introducing Clarke/Kelly and possible crossover with the Amazon Ryan series. And it also establishes Ritter as DDO. Forgot about that.

We should lay the casting game for Rainbow Six

Britian: Indian or Afro-carribean lady with a very posh accent, MI:6 sniper ? love interest for Clarke if only he could stop jabbering on and on about his wife's name
France: gay algerian male, expert in knives
Germany: stern white male who challenges Clarke for command at first, ends up loving the french guy
Italy: bombshell lady, works IT
Spain: ridiculously flamboyant chauvinistic guy who hits on and is belittled by Britain and Italy CONSTANTLY, but he is demolitions and is suffering from some TBI so it's cute instead of creepy :p
Canada: ha ha ha, who are we kidding, they weren't invited
Poland: Geralt of Rivia
Australia: Guy Pierce plays his own brother
Mexico: Ding muthafucking CHAVEZ!!!!!!!!, played by Pedro Pascal because Leguizamo is too old

I can never understand the appeal of MBJ performance wise. I just see a lot of ego and anger. People say he’s well trained (heard that before). What’s the appeal?

It was okay, very watchable but nothing special. I would have MUCH preferred the original story from the book but it is what it is.

This type of role can only be played by someone like Gina Carano. I stopped watching Designated Survivor when Maggie 70pound Q took out some ex navy seal badass mercenary in hand to hand combat.

If you want to have some badass military woman you’d better get one that is built like a dude, make them a sniper, or give them magic/superpowers.

All SEAL officers have to complete SEAL training. Could've easily been solved by making her a military officer or civilian from outside the SEALs attached to the opening mission (much like Ritter was coming in from the CIA) who becomes trusted by Kelly and influences events afterward.

Why is it even named "Without Remorse" when it bears absolutely no resemblance to the novel. Would have said Tom Clancy is rolling in his grave but Ubisoft already too care of that. What an embarrassment of a film considering it's written by Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Yellowstone).

“Hell or High Water” is a good film.

The first bad script by Taylor Sheridan. Ok, cowritten with the guy who wrote Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and the "new" Right Stuff (another bomb).
Not even the militainment part they did right.

Did anyone noticed how they choose a midget as the CIA guy so the 1 ,76m Seal model can look intimidating? lol

The only thing that we can salvage is a the mid-credit scene teasing Rainbow Six, by amazon :(

Just finished watching. Pretty disappointing. I knew people in here would get triggered by a female soldier and the other “woke” shit that normally gets them triggered. But I didn’t care about any of that. I was just hoping for a better story.

I left my thoughts in the movie thread:

You're now thinking about the worst burger you've ever eaten said:
It's odd in that while the production values are great, the acting good all around, and pacing leaves one engaged - it's just not terribly interesting and completely forgettable. It feels like a knock off of a Clancy property rather than the authentic deal.

I liked it. As a purely popcorn flick it was enjoyable but forgettable.

Hopefully what comes next is better.

I'm watching it now. Lol at the insurgent trying to take out the US team with an RPG at point-blank range.

Edit: oof this sniper sequence is TERRIBLE. Worst snipers in the world.

How is this movie so boring? It's visually great with some awesome camerawork and effects [the prison fight and the rotating plane were great]. The story is pretty solid, but holy hell everything is so boring.

And the lady SEAL commander is just one big WTF.

That is the point. With a great story things like a spindly female SEAL don't become problems. With a shit story she is just the low hanging fruit of things to complain about.

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
Let’s see how we can take great characters and make them uninteresting or generic. It was OK at best. Not better than Kano in MK.

Jodie Turner-Smith was pregnant while filming that movie.

And for the people not believing she took MBJ down with one hand on the plane... That's actually an Aikido move ... You can do it without standing up. It's using your joints against you. You don't have to be strong to do it.

Just a little martial arts FYI

Aikido doesn’t work.

It was just a sad attempt to make her look badass, which didn't work.

I've done a fair share of Aikido and I don't really want to talk shit about it, but I can assure you that moves like these are not really applicable in the "real world". Aikido leans heavily on a [very] cooperative sparring partner.

The idea of this lady bringing a guy twice her size and weight on his knees simply by grabbing his wrist is preposterous.

[I realize this whole discussion is borderline nitpick-territory since it's like 3 seconds in a two-hour movie, but still]

I took it as playful banter between near equals. He clearly could have pulled his arm back and then snapped her twig neck with an elbow strike to the top of her skull but he played along in good sport.

Even her fight with the sniper was somewhat choreographed reasonably for a thin woman versus a larger man. Certainly a LOT better than what we usually get when some 100 pound waif casually brushes aside a right cross from a 250 pound monster, pushes a sidekick away with a light swat of her hand, and then gracefully taps him with a front snap kick that then throws him through a plaster wall :p

My issue with her specifically was the wooden acting and her non role to begin with. I'm guessing she is intended to be his "handler" for future ops but shouldn't that be Ritter? And I'm guessing Clark would lead R6, again making Greer superfluous other than as a fridge moment or as a macguffin (she gets captured and needs a rescue except Hey, gurl power she was rescuing herself the whole time!).

One may be related to the other. Having woke shit in a movie usually leads involves bad writers so the movie will ultimately be bad.
