Has Beauty and the Beast premiered in all countries, or does it still have to premiere somewhere?

I'm gonna go watch Ghost in the Shell today, so I did my part. Not that it'll help at all lol.

It still has South Africa on April 14th, and more notably Japan on April 21st.

I just came out of the cinema, and having seen Ghost in the Shell, I'm really sad that it is flopping on the Box Office. It was a pretty good movie, and I thought it was way better than the 95' anime.

I think so. It was a good movie, and I would have loved a sequel with ScarJo.

Unless the sequel is a buddy cop movie with Chin Han and Pilou Asbæk exchanging intellectual quotes with each other for 90 minutes, who gives a fuck? Why would anyone want to pay to watch ScarJo again?

Because ScarJo would be ones favorite, or one of, actresses?

Her performance wasn't the problem with this movie. She's a great actress. Rupert Sanders is a mediocre director, and the script gave her little to work with.

Time for adaptation for Gundam as that surely won't be hard right?^_^....wait.T_T

A western live-action Gundam movie? What could possibly go wrong!

A story where giant robot is a commonplace, fill the screen often and often involved in all the action sequences?
Yeah, it's not going to happen. The sfx cost alone would eclipsed Pacific Rim.

They could probably do it if they went as show-accurate and simple as possible on the robot designs instead of going for Pacific Rim's level of realism. Plus, a good chunk of the series being in space means they can save a whole lot and do a lot of full-CGI battles instead of having to deal with a bunch of compositing.

Superficially Gundam is an easier sell as Star Wars with robots.

In theory you make a truncated, simplified plot about getting the Gundam from Side 7 to Jaburo to mass produce. Maybe shift things to have the finale be against Garma. Wrap it up as Amuro deciding to continue fighting of his own will, Gihren gives his speech, and Char being smug somewhere. Then in the sequel you can get into newtypes and crazier stuff.

The mechanical designs in Pacific Rim already struck the right balance between simple and distinctive (a far cry from the random messes of scrap that comprise the excesses exemplified by Michael Bay's Transformers). If anything, that's exactly the sort of thing that people should look to for the aesthetics of a hypothetical giant robot project.

Though I have every doubt in my mind that live-action Gundam would be any better or more successful than past anime adaptations, if they wanted to make an attempt at one, the first decision should be to see to it that it's not based on anything from Universal Century. Far too slow and plodding, with its brand of and emphasis on space politics guaranteed to bore people who aren't fans of UC Gundam to tears. If those stories can't catch on with Western audiences who actually watch the anime (as lackluster performances for such shows via Toonami broadcasts have demonstrated), it's best not to expect the average moviegoer to find that approach to Gundam any more interesting.

I would also suggest minimizing the emphasis on space battles, which generally aren't as interesting as the planet-based conflicts in any given Gundam series, UC or otherwise.

Smurfs is getting terrible reviews. 33% with a 4.6 avg on RT and 40 on Metacritic.

What is the point of rebooting a series that lost a ton of business between 1 and 2 for being horrible, if you are going to release a horrible follow up as well?

An 08th MS Team movie would be awesome! It's completely grounded in reality, as grounded as it can be considering, and the Gundams are basically used like highly mobile tanks. They don't jet around everywhere beam spamming and turning on a dime.

If that 180 number is real it likely doesn't include tax cuts and the like, I remember AoU was extremely expensive but got a lot of those

Holy crap who thought spending 180 million on adapting an obscure anime was a good idea?
They wound up spending Captain America money on it when they should've only spent Deadpool money at most. Either way, they clearly overestimated the awareness and appeal of the source material, and were leaning heavily on Johansson as a draw to make up the difference.

China won't be saving GitS and those numbers are probably a best case scenario at this point. F8 is about to open in China next weekend and GitS will be a distant memory.
Overseas love Fast and Furious almost as much as Ice Age

Marvel films are made in the Great state of Georgia, not trashcity aka Philly

I'm going to keep pretending that doesn't exist.

They could adapt SEED, that way they would just have to hire one actor and do one CG shot, then reuse those indefinitely :D

Don't forget the "starcrossed lovers" part as well. That could sell well if done right.

Deadline's early Friday estimates are 6.5-7.5 for both Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast. They also have $4M for Smurfs, $3.5M for Going in Style, and $1.7M for The Case For Christ.

Boxoffice.com updated their long range forecast

Fate of the Furious remains at $118M OW a week ahead of its debut.

Wonder Woman gets its first prediction at $83M OW and $225M total (so basically Doctor Strange).

Captain Underpants was put at $24M OW and $80M total that same weekend.

Boxoffice.com bumped up Pirates 5 to a $61M 3-day/$75M 4-day opening and $190M total. They also bumped up Baywatch to a $115M total. Considering that both of those were new predictions last week, I guess there must have been positive buzz at Cinemacon. They usually don't update predictions that are only a week or two old.
