Wkd BO 05•26-28•17 - Rock in bay can't stop Pirates or Guardians, Alien sinks tho

Cooter

Lacks the power of instantaneous movement
Up about 25% from Friday without the previews. Suicide squad dropped 13.5% on Saturday from its Friday (minus previews). For the DCEU it's great.

GotG2 increased 31% though, so not unprecedented or anything.
Cool. Thanks kswis. You're an awesome source of information. Appreciate it.

Assuming the Wonder Woman Saturday holds, I'd guess somewhere between $99-102M for the weekend actual. No Way WB has the estimate under $100M though, unless Rth is too high on Saturday.

Conceptually that swat scene in TDK is more interesting than the BvS warehouse. Batman trying to take out Joker goons while preventing swat from killing hostages. Prep time Bats setting traps between punches. Ending it by roping up the swat team and dangling them of the edge. But the choreography of the BvS scene is so damn good, even if it's just Batman beating down a bunch of goons in a warehouse. That TDK scene with the action of BvS would be something else.

yeah I loved how TDK handled the hostage rescue, it predated the arkham games too in depicting Batman's multitasking so fluidly in motion.

and with BvS I liked how all the goons didn't hold back one by one, the way batman handled it was seamless fighting choreography I see more often in kung fu movies than western action flicks. i really hope future batman movies take notes from both of these scenes for their action sequences.

My 10:30 IMAX 3D screening was a little more than half full. Slightly disappointed.

My wife and I had a blast. The movie is great.

Patty Jenkins becomes the first female director to have a film open over $100M if Wonder Woman makes it. She has the opening weekend record for a female director regardless, as the current benchmark is 50 Shades of Grey.

As long as Wonder Woman has better legs than Suicide Squad, Jenkins will take the domestic total record for a female director as well.

Wonder Woman is the first movie in forever where I went to a theater and the showtime I was going for actually sold out.

I haven't even experienced this on OW with movies opening far higher than WW will.

Damn I had no idea The Watchmen did so poorly. Must have really turned off that big opening crowd.

Anecdotally, people went in expecting a Batman/X-Men style blockbuster movie. What they got was a decent adaptation of Watchmen. The following week a few people asked me if Watchmen was actually a comic book and I tried to explain. At least a few of those few were interested in reading it. Others thought it was dumb but wanted to know if the comics also had blue dick.

I commend them for the dope and kind of misleading trailers.

This played ahead of The Dark Knight

Not bad

If Wonder Woman really does open to $100 million then it'll basically be the happiest I've been at a Box Office result in like.......well maybe ever.

Only twice for me, Spider-Man (McGuire) and believe it or not Spirited Away.

Edit: I forgot Fellowship as well. That was on a Sunday. People who got sold tickets after it sold out were willing to sit in the isle steps. The word of mouth on that film was insane.

The Force Awakens' box office is probably the happiest result I've ever felt, and if a Star Trek movie could pull even half that, I'd be even happier. But -- and I don't even know like the first thing about this character, mind you -- if Wonder Woman is a huge success, this will be a top 5 "happy JeffZero box office result" moment at very least.

Did they miss the part of the trailers that said, 'The most beloved Graphic Novel of all time' or the intro that had 'Based on the Graphic Novel by Dave Gibbons' in the center of the screen in bright letters lol

I think some folks have the image of cartoon drawings for kids when it came to comics. Or had, back in the olden days of 2009.

$35M for Saturday would probably lock up $100M for the weekend unless Game 2 has much higher ratings that last year; don't see Wonder Woman having a worse Sunday hold than TMNT 2.

The happiest result was TDK for me, easily... My favorite film of the year broke the OW record. Like, that's going to be tough to top, you know?

Wow $35.7M for WW !

$100M OW locked
4th DCEU movie in a row to hit $100M OW

Deadline:

6th Update, Sunday 12:45AM: The warrior princess of Themyscira is finally leaping past the century mark this weekend with an estimated $101.4M, after an estimated $35.6M Saturday.

Now, since studios include Thursday preview B.O. in Friday’s opening figure, Wonder Woman is -8% from Friday’s $38.7M. However, back that $11M Thursday cash out of Friday, and technically Wonder Woman is +29% Saturday over Friday.

Super happy to see these numbers.
This tells me two things:
1) WB's marketing strategy was perfectly fine.
2) A Birds of Prey movie will be announced within the year. And possibly Black Widow too.

They already announced their follow-on films. Batgirl from Whedon and Gotham City Sirens from Ayers.

Marvel has Captain Marvel. Johasson's contract is up with Infinity War, and Marvel is cheap. If we get a Black Widow film, there'll be some handoff. More likely is they dip into the well for another female character: Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye #2, White Tiger, Elsa Bloodstone, etc.

DC keeps announcing films left and right and considering that Ayer is going to be busy for a while, they might try to push BoP before Sirens. That's purely fanboy conjecture on my part of course, but I don't think it's that unlikely. BoP is almost inevitable at this point, the only question is when.

Just a random aside but I think Kamala's powers would translate terribly into live-action. Body deformation powers never look good. I'd rather Marvel and Disney went the Big Hero 6 route with her.

I'd laugh hard if they didn't make a Black Widow movie (with Johansson) after the twelve billion comments Feige made. I don't see them make a Hawkeye, White Tiger or (lol) Elsa Bloodstone movie either.
We'll see. They'll have to announce their future movies at some point.

I'm still sad we never got a solo Black Widow film after the Avengers. It could of been a spy espionage film.

What is going on in this thread? I'm hearing crazy talk like the Batman suit is bad and Bale Batman is better than Batfleck when that's just ludicrous because Nolan's Batman wasn't even Batman. It was just some regular Joe wearing a batsuit. He didn't display any Batman qualities. And Amell for Green Arrow in the DCEU? Madness!

Wonder Woman was great btw.

Baleman is the best Batman. Batfleck can eat it.

imo Black Widow feat. Hawkeye should've been between the first two Avengers films. Flesh out both characters. I don't think they'll get a chance again because I can see her done after 2019 Avengers.

Just over 15 years ago, Spider-Man was the first film to open over $100M domestic. Wonder Woman will be the 45th film over that mark, with over 1/3 of those 100M+ openings being superhero openings.

By the end of the year, WB's top 10 openings of all time will consist of 3 Harry Potter films, and 7 DC films (5 DCEU + the Dark Knights)

Baleman isn't Batman. Batman isn't going into retirement due to a broken heart.

It's DCEU related so it'll be negative, trust me.

Unlike Batfleck who becomes a mass murderer cuz a Robin died lol

I don't really want to defend TDKR, and I'm not gonna. Prime Baleman is in Begins and TDK, but mostly TDK for me.
