Wait, theres a chance Steve Jobs might have a lower opening weekend than Ashton Kutcher Jobs?

Very soft opening for Jobs. Surprising, given the Social Network's success and the seemingly never-ending ad blitz/oscar push for it.

Nobody cares enough about Steve Jobs to see a movie about him.

Fasbender isn't a big enough draw without a bucket on his head.

Danny Boyle isn't David Fincher. Not by a long shot.

While Boyle isn't the most consistently bankable director out there, Fincher is hardly a guarantee for box office success, either. A lot of his successful films are more attributable to the stars he attracts, and even that's not a guarantee, given the somewhat underwhelming runs that Fight Club, Zodiac and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had overall. I imagine that studios would prefer working with Boyle over Fincher as he purposefully seeks out lower budgets and isn't anywhere close to being a complete control freak, even if both are still pretty picky about what projects they ultimately pursue.

Baffled on the popularity of the Martian in NA, its cool how well space movies are doing tho every year now you get one big success. Steve Jobs deserved a better opening but eh biopics like that arent really huge hits are they? Plus it was a pretty unconventional structure.

Is the new Steve Jobs movie even a traditional BioPic?

Does it cover his childhood etc?

No and thank God for that. It discusses it but its more framed around 3 events in his career and jumps to them. Pretty different from the standard stuffy ass biopics we get every year so I surprisingly enjoyed it quite a bit (though sorkin needed to be reigned in a bit Forreal, Boyle lets him run amok)

Plus Fassbender is so good

That was a much tighter and punchier film, plus it had far better marketing

Despite sharing the same writer they are barely alike

Right, but The Social Network proves that a biopic can open a hell of a lot better than 7m.

EDIT: Totally forgot about Compton but that pulled huge numbers just a couple months ago.

You of all people don't know Jem and the Holograms. That seems outrageous to me. Truly, truly, truly outrageous.

I don't know man. There are plenty of 80s cartoons I somehow never watched (like Thundercats), but I have at least heard of them and know what the characters look like. That one, I first heard of when someone posted about IDW bringing the property to comics. It looks like I was about 5 when the show was at the height of its popularity. I must have been too busy watching Masters of the Universe and Transformers.

Other than Zodiac, Fincher's been pretty consistent during the past 15 years.

The Martian is doing well everywhere. Worldwide audiences seem to be digging more grounded sci-fi recently along with the more fantastical Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy type films.
