Wkd BO 10•16-18•15 - 'Crimson Peak' sounds like a euphemism for menstruation... _

$55 for Crimson Peak? The movie looks way more expensive than that, Memo knows how to handle budgets.

I still can't believe that the Hellboy sequel cost less than $100 million. Del Toro may not have much mainstream success, but he's a master of making shit look way more expensive than it actually is.

I watched Hellboy 2 earlier this year and it definitely looked like a movie made under $100 mil. You may be misremembering how good it looks.

We ditched seeing Crimson Peak when I found out it's a "gothic romance". Barf.

Despite being a mediocre movie, Prometheus actually made decent money.

I rewatched Prometheus this weekend, and despite the flaws it's a much better movie than the tepid The Martian. Other than Jurassic World, The Martian is the most disappointing film of 2015 imo.

jesus just how much of a disaster is Pan
a 60% drop on already dire numbers
going to be pulled from cinemas so fast

Poor Pan. Won't even make back a 1/3 of its budget, domestically at least. But I doubt the international BO will help much anyways.

the Del Toro gipsy curse is real isnt it? :(

what is pan

Crimson Peak was at least entertaining. But whoever decided to promote it as a horror film should be fired.

This is why I didn't rush to go see it. I've been promised a horror movie for years. I thought it was a horror movie. Then del Toro is like lol nah not really, and in conjunction with the marketing just led me to believe that it's a film that isn't quite sure of itself, so I can wait on it.

I'm starting to run out of time to watch all the movies I want to watch.

Sicario
Bridge of Spies
Steve Jobs
Crimson Peak
Creed
Spectre
Star Wars
The Revenant

This winter is making Summer look like a fuckin fart in the wind.

watch sicario asap dude. benicio da gawd.

this fall/winter is definitely packed. and that list isn't even taking into account a bunch of smaller indie and foreign films that will likely be great.

I liked Crimson Peak, but the marketing for it was horrible because it absolutely is not a horror movie. As Del Toro said, it's a "gothic romance" and that's exactly what it is. I really enjoyed it though myself, but misleading people to think it's something completely different was a bad idea that clearly backfired on them. I can only assume it was in an attempt to make it seem more appealing. Maybe if they had promoted it for what it really is it would have done better? Guess we'll never know.

The last few weeks have been packed with great material.
Everest, Sicario, Beasts of No Nation, The Martian, and Bridge of Spies. All films which did an excellent job.

I saw it today, I would say its closer to horror movies like The Shining, Psycho, etc. Its not a "jump" horror movie. Its obviously romance, but their are definitely horror elements too. Not sure what you would categorize it as, definitely not the same as most recent horror movies though.

Back to the Future was top of the box office once again yesterday
Pretty cool, good to see it did that well

In limited release, abduction drama “Room” leveraged awards chatter into a very strong start, earning $120,000 from four screens for a per-screen average of $30,000.
Every time I hear about this movie, I expect Tommy Wiseau and "oh hai, Mark."

I'm very confused.

don't forget SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI

After what happened today, I imagine that movie is going to bomb hard.

Early numbers are pointing to bombs a plenty this weekend.

Deadline and Boxoffice.com are both forecasting The Martian re-taking #1 and Goosebumps holding onto #2.

Both sites are forecasting $10-12M for Paranormal Activity: Ghost Dimension, $9M or Steve Jobs, about $10M for the Last Witch Hunter, and between $2-4M for Gem and the Holograms and Rock the Kasbah.

At least most of those films were fairly cheap to produce.

Jem and the Bombas, Paranormal Activity: The Bomba Dimension and Rock the Bomba.

For real, jebbus.

Jem has released? I thought it was a 2016 film for some reason.

Paranormal Activity series really fell off for people after 3, huh? 3 made $104m domestic, 4 was $53m, Masked Ones was $32m, this one is gonna open even lower.

Wow @ bomba weekend. :/

Who thought it was a good idea to give a Peter Pan film $150 million? They must have been expecting the live action Alice/Maleficent/Cinderella crowd to appear for that.

This one's going to VOD in two weeks, right? So theaters really didn't care about pushing it. Not sure how/where the marketing focus has been.

Could be, but Pan seemed like it had flop written all over it. Though whenever not-Disney tries to do what Disney is doing, i usually doesn't turn out well, lol.

And Paranormal Activity at least tends to be cheap. Across all of the sequels, they only really spent like 30 million and made nearly a billion worldwide.
