Wolfenstein: The New Order |OT| They put Nazis on the Moon, Scheiß auf den Mond!

I thought Wolfenstein 2009 actually got better in its second half, when it started introducing boss fights. The game as a whole would have been so much better if they had used health/armor meters instead of regenerating health, and if they took away the hub world and just added more levels.

Some of you should just relax. ThoseDeafMutes hears rumblings of it being a good game from his sauces, Dawg seems to have liked it (?), RiotPelaaja calls it Riddick-tier, lots of other positive impressions, etc.

On the other hand, some think it's not so great, but then again we also have discussions going about whether Wolf '09 was a good game which people are similarly split on.

Opinions gonna 'pinion. The 20th will be more informative, and even then it's best to try it yourself.

Wolf 09 was pretty disappointing, coming from Raven. I gave up less than halfway on 360.

It was really disappointing to play right after Wolverine, because I loved that one so much. I did enjoy Singularity, though and I lament Raven's demise to CoD-Assembly Line hell.

You missed out on some awesome weapons! Which part did you quit at ?

I don't know, it honestly wasn't very far. I wasn't feeling the game and there were a ton of good games coming out around that time I wanted to play more, Bayonetta, Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, etc.

Definetly

Most games have a poor second half anyway.

I can't remember the last time I played a game where the second half was stronger than the first.

EDIT: Ha, there's currently a thread about this.

Wolf09's second half is way better than the first. Longer, more interesting missions, a huge variety of difficult enemies, and of course full access to the entire incredible armory and more ammo than you'd possibly need. It's fantastic.

It's really upsetting that people didn't give the game a chance or gave up too early.

Um, it's not, it's got a lot of the developers pedigree in there. I wish I could say more, give it until the 20th.

As long as there's not a part where you have to wander around and get lost in dreamy/nightmarish World War 1 trenches, while getting randomly teleported around by lightning bolts.

I loved The Darkness, but GOD, FUCK THAT LEVEL.

I don't think any single human being liked those parts

I have to imagine they were playtesting it and going, "...fuck" but there was nothing they could do

It's really weird how good the boss fights are in Wolf 09. Raven made FPS bosses look easy, while everybody else constantly struggles with them. Sure they weren't fantastic, but they were at least engaging, which is more than I can say for almost every other shooter.

Shameless cross-post:

Well, that's actually midnight for every respective region.
It unlocks at midnight here in Europe, it unlocks at midnight (EST) in America and it unlocks at midnight (JAPAN TIME!) in Asia.

Which is good to know actually, because that means I'll be able to start downloading the game at midnight and can probably play it when I get home from work that day.

Reboot, baby. The way it should be.

Awesome! The New Order will be my first Wolfenstein title.

Also, doesn't it seem odd that there's no multiplayer component?

I'm all for devs to put all their time, effort and recourses into single-player, but it seems like an odd thing to omit from a Wolfenstein game.

Guys, let's all panic and cancel our preorders because somebody doesn't like the game.

It's ridiculous how much drama some people ITT are going through because of one person's impressions.

This game does seem to have some loose threads tying it to 09, like Carolyn's presence. Though the connection seems to be more ambiguous in nature rather than being clearly in the same chronology.

Reboot, baby. The way it should be.

It's not a reboot. It's a continuation of '09, albeit indirectly. Deathshead's survival of the zeppelin crash at the end of '09 "changed his outlook on life" and the recent trailers show Caroline managed to survive after being shot at castle Wolfenstein.

Nearly every notable FPS has some levels where the setting/style/mechanics change up in the name of pacing and variety...and sometimes they're even good, but even then lots of people will inherently dislike them. It's normal.

I actually agree with this. The 3 'main' bosses all have a pretty good setup combining both environment usage and straight up weapon spam. They're a decent compromise when it comes to the different ways FPS' handle boss fights.

Checked my Steam library and I have 09 Wolfenstien that I never played. Looks like I better give it a try before this drops on Tuesday.

Lol annoys me to still see people buying games full price. What's wrong with you, can you not shop around? Who in the right mind spends $60/£50 on a game.

Who in their right mind gives a fuck if someone spends whatever they want on a video game?

Like, of all things to get annoyed about, it's something that has no direct impact in your life.

I pay 60 bucks on a game because I do significant research and haven't regretted doing so in a long time.

I think Machine Games official stance is that it's its own thing but you can take it as a sequel to any of the Wolfenstein games basically. If anything I could see them having it as a sequel to Wolf 3D as that's the one they were influenced by the most.

If you haven't already, please check out:

Hardcore Gaming 101: Wolfenstein History write-up

It's quite thorough and excellent.

Oh how I wish I cold play the Xbox version somehow and I wish MachineGames would have been maybe commissioned (or anyone for that matter) for a port of Wolf3D on Vita (Duke3D is still coming to the platform). Playing it on iOS is pretty damn ass and the PSN version suffers from the slowed music tempo as I said before.

Crazy that people want to support developers... ;) Also for many multi-player focused games $60 is nothing for the amount of time you get out of game.

Personally speaking, I'm starving for a new current gen title to play. I was totally dissapointed in the new infamous (it felt hollow and very repetitive) and I'm completely burned out on Titanfall.

I think Wolfenstein will fill that void for me. Although it is a traditional FPS, it seems to offer more than your run of the mill shooters.

You're right, but it's definitely taking the story in a different direction. MachineGames is trying to do their own thing with the franchise, I guess you could say it's sort of in between a sequel and a reboot.

As far as I'm aware, all the occult stuff from the Raven game is out of this one, right? That's pretty big. This one seems to be a bit more about technology and mechanicals, like the Panzerhund.

The 'alternate timeline' angle does give them a lot of leeway when it comes to canonical ambiguity, but the connections are still there for people who played the last few games. I'm guessing their stance was mostly born from not wanting to turn anyone off the game who didn't have any familiarity with the series.

The funny thing is that 09 drops references to Spear of Destiny as well technically making 'beyond/castle wolfenstein' the only non-canon games in the series.

Yep, which is a shame. I felt the occult elements gave the series a lot of personality. The occult has been a big factor in Wolfenstein since Spear of Destiny.

For me, life's to short too worry about if I spend an extra couple dollars here or there or whether this game scores 5s or 10s. If I don't like it, I don't like it, and I'll move to the next thing. Don't need to make a big deal out of any of it. Anticipating to not like it though seems like a exceedingly cynical way to approach anything.

yeah, on a livestream they did a while back someone asked about the occult stuff and they just laughed and said "yeah that's all gone".

Yeah absolutely, I'm guessing they've got references for multiple Wolf games in the new one as well :)

As for Spear Of Destiny I was listening to the OST recently and it still has one of my favourite Wolfenstein tracks - Tiptoein' Around

Oh my god....this last level....
5000 enemies....if you die at the last one you'll return to the checkpoint right before the fight. Nice. I love checkpoint systems.

Even if it's worth full price, why pay it when you are guaranteed to get it cheaper if you look around? It's not hard!

Alright tell me more about this magical place where I can get the digital PS4/X1 version for less than $60. Thank you

Glad I'm a MS expert zone member. I can buy a $50 store card for $20 then pay an extra $10 for the game digitally. I think it's at least worth $30 digitally lol

Im up to chapter 4 and really liking this game so far. The option to take a more stealthy approach is a good one. I realise I might get ambushed for saying that being that its a wolfenstein game but hey ho.
