WorkingDesigns best voiceover ?

I mean, Growlancer II is worth it solely on the amazing voice action of WOLFGANG ! How could Vic team acheive such a perfect balance with this character is just beyond reality.

Vic, this time you just made it works sooooooooo good ! Best voice acting since Lunar 1 Ghaleon's voice ! I just remember his encounter with Quark when he completly looses it (priceless !)

So for me, nothing else come close to WOLFGANG and Ghaleon (SEGA CD Lunar 1).

What is your best WorkingDesigns voice acting ?

I liked Laine in Dragon Force, but I may just be funny that way.

If I have to be serious, it would probably be Ghaleon in a walk.

DFS.

You know, the funny thing about it is perception really is 90% of reality. I've had people write who absolutely *hate* Wolfgang and love Hans. Or some love Wolfgang and hate Wein. Others hate it all. Others love it all. It's something I never quite get used to.

But I will share that Wolfgang's performance is one of my favorites. *However* in testing his pace of delivery, while dramatic, was VERY annoying because you had to wait for him to finish talking even though you'd heard it 25,50, 100 times. Fun fact: the dude that did Wolfgang does FX and stuff for pro magicians and made these HUGE fingernails for King Kong's hands for the upcoming movie. He told me his kids used the leftovers as saucers on a nearby sledding hill. :)

Other favorites of mine: Hans, Hugh, Viktor, and the shopkeeper in Growlanser II. His outtakes were great, too. In fact, many of the outtakes really cracked me up, but some of the funniest were just too blue to include.

Thats something I apreciate about Working Designs, you can always count on at least above average voice acting.

EDIT;

Outtakes?
I must have missed these in Growlanser 2.. hmm

II and III both have them in the "extras" section that pops up on the title screen once you complete the game and allow it to update your saves (you have to answer "yes" after the credits roll).

I'll be purchasing Growlanser tomorrow...Suikoguy, how does it compare to Disgaea/Phantom Brave (assuming you played Disgaea/Phantom Brave)?

I haven't tried Growlanser yet to listen to the voices, but I would gladly trade the $40 omake stuff for bilingual voices and original version script.

ENGLISH, MUTHAFUCKA! DO YOU SPEAK IT?

Compared to Disagea, it seems to be a little faster paced. I liked the story overal better too (I finished Growlanser 2 yesterday).

Less depth by far in Growlanser, but to me thats not what it was about, the characters and story sealed it for me. That not to say there was no strategy, some of the missions actually make you think how do to it. I found myself failing quite a few times on a couple of the missions. Also, magic does have a purpose. Casting attack up 3x on your character gives them quite a boost, and can effect the outcome in battle.

I started Growlanser 3 yesterday, and so far its good too.
Well worth my $50 by far.

Sorry, but nothing can top Ghaleon for me.

"Not Ghaleon, dear Quark....MAGIC EMPEROR GHALEON!"

"What utter nonsense! Perhaps you should demonstrate the power that gives you such confidence. Then we will see who is fit to be supreme ruler, and who...IS DEAD!"

Ghaleon's voice really conveyed how the character relished in his own agenda -- a perfect fit.

That "It wasn't supposed to end like this!" line at the end of Dragon Force was unintentionally funny, though.

The only part of Lunar SSS I cared about. I repeated this scene to myself god knows how many times

(with apologies to the ever-gracious mr. ireland)

Hugh in Growlanser III is absolutely fabulous voice-acting. If you don't think so, we're gonna have to bash some heads in.

Ghaleon was fantastic. To this day one of the greatest voices in an English RPG, imho.

I'm looking forward to Growlanser. Got the Deluxe Pack all sitting pretty in my room, but it'll take at least a month before I can even play it. *sigh*

Both Lunars, top to bottom, were great. The king of voice-overs is Legacy of Kain, though, by a small margin. Spoken by Shakespearian actors in a tone reminiscent of the stage, it was espressive without falling into that trap of cheesy-ness.

WD voice acting kind of followed this bizarre trajectory. because WD started doing voice localization before most people, they were so far ahead on the quality curve when it all originally started. then game acting started getting better and their efforts stayed the same, which sort of pushed them into the "average" territory. same for the text localizations, actually.

but the text localizations picked up a lot with arc the lad (what an overwrought disaster vangaurd bandits was, in comparison) and the voice localization in growlanser is really pretty good on average. although i think wein is almost painfully earnest.

still, enjoyable, and it has character at least. but i must admit that i often hit the button to move that shit along all the same...

Freakin HATED Wein (Wayne) though I call him 'Whine'

Ghaleon from Lunar was great, especially the original Sega CD rendition

I also really liked the narrator from Growlanser two, really nice tone for setting up the story

ahem, I'll reiterate

I goddamn HATED Wein

Ghaleon in Lunar Eternal Blue, Sega CD. The man owned. One of the best voice to character matches ever, as has been observed. His last line in Eternal Blue moves me to this day.

"Can you hear me, Dyne? These few shine with your Light."

His story arc was so complex between the two Sega-CD games, and the voice over conveyed so much of that complexity. I hope that guy still gets good work, he rocked.

Ah, Popful Mail....where's a remake/sequel when you need one?

There were two penguins. One was voiced by Mike Miller who moved away and I lost contact with. The other was voiced by Craig Padilla, who did Hans in Growlanser II.

And yes, Popful Mail had some great characters. Nuts Cracker "Uh-oh. I think you
knocka somethin' loose in-a my head...I think I'm-a dead duck. Boomba" and Clabberdeen Crotchmacher Leetzelwiffle Poopiehead von Venuncio Kraken Rachetface the 14th, feudal lord of Odorburg (aka Venuncio). Really fun stuff.

This makes me wish I brought my X'EYE to college. I bought Popful Mail off ebay, and have yet to really play it.
