Worst looking non-launch 360/PS3 game

ZlzkR.jpg

Oh I KNOW you're not talking shit about EDF 2017, are you?!

Game is one of the only examples where quantity is actually better than quality.

I was going to come in here and post MIB after just watching the quick look :lol

I was going to say I can't wait for the quick look. Now I know what I will be watching when I fall asleep tonight! Can't wait!

Shadow of the Colossus is graphically just a good-looking PS2 game, disappointing after all the hype. Ico looked even worse

Well, you should probably cut Ico some slack, considering it was released way back in 2001. And what did you expect from Shadow of the Colossus? It is quite literally a very good-looking PS2 game.

Did you play the HD remakes or the originals?

Well bringing in HD collections is a bit harsh as they are not really this gen game... But silent hill collection deserves a spot, at least with SoTC and ICO they didn't look worse than the originals

Of course not helping either is that the hd collection has lots of problems like frame rate drops, freezes, sound effects missing and even missing some parts of cut scenes. Yes, they couldn't port a 10 year old game to current gen hardware. Konami....

There was a really great article about HD ports on Game Informer recently and they had something to say that might interest you:

We got all the source code that Konami had on file -- which it turns out wasn't the final release version of the games! D'oh!" says Huelett, "So during debug we didn't just have to deal with the expected 'porting' bugs, but also had to squash some bugs that the original team obviously removed prior to release, but we'd never seen before. A lot of assets such as textures and sound had to be taken out of the compiled game, and that brings with it a host of unique issues, especially taken on top of the tricky coding workarounds at play in the original games. We certainly had our hands full. I think at one point [Silent Hill 3 protagonist] Heather was blue."

alright op. You win. this game... is just...

i am quite possibly the furthest thing from a graphics whore, but my god.

Alright...I'm ready to be torn apart. As some of you may know, I'm not the biggest fan of Portal 2, but god damn those textures...so awful. I mean the artstyle is god damn gorgeous, but those textures are just so outdated for a 2011 game.
Even on PC with highest settings the textures still look like garbage, but I guess the artstyle basically saves it.

Doesn't Portal 2 use more or less the same engine as the original?

Holy shit at those silent hill HD collections screens and gifs, didn't know it was that bad.

Saw the MiB clip and whoa 0_o dem movie games, i think i saw a couple people buy it at target this week, what have they done.

This thread cound not be closed without mentioning the action stars of this generation, the makers of Lost Planet 3, possibly Star Wars Battlefront 3 and of course, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty

Spark, 2008 - PS3 / X360

Luckily they aren't making Battlefront 3

Yeah that is what was speculated in. But he and everyone behind it, should be ashamed of releasing it in that state. Not just graphics but the constant frame rate drops and what not... Yeah, should probably just have dropped it or gotten a developer who knew what they were doing, can't expect a team who's biggest games is frogger to recreate anything from silent hill 2 and 3.

"There are a ton of details in the textures of SH2 and 3 that are impossible to see on the console originals"

Is bullshit though. 1080p on pc and you can see all that stuff. Looks fine without re doing any of it. No need to try and enhance it, especially when it's a incompetent developer.

Holy fucking shit. I'd seen some gameplay for MIB alien crisis and had honestly assumed it was a downloadable game, for 10 dollars, absolute tops. I'm actually in shock to find out it's a retail game for 60. I'm not even putting this on for comedic effect. I'm honest to god, fucking stunned. You win OP.

That brutal Earth Defense Force game is the worst I've seen in person.
It holds up better in motion. I thought the particle effects in EDF 2017 were actually really well done and the enemy counts are insane. The physics are also hilarious. The spin-off actually looks worse in many ways.

That MIB gif is going to haunt me all night. How unbelievably embarrassing... You must care just so very, very little about your job and have literally no pride to create something like that. Whoever is responsible for this game should simply apologize and leave the industry.

It was probably made using indentured servitude.

Don't assume it's entirely the fault of the people who made the game. People gotta work, and for myriad reasons, work conditions aren't always the most conducive to producing high quality software.

Why would it be entirely the fault of the studio when clearly (as previous stories accurately portraited it) Konami is the incompetent one in this case as well? For example, with silent Hill games, they have a habit of sending out pictures in press packs from unfinished, unpolished debug versions, missing shaders, textures and things like that. And they have been doing it for years, they just don't give a sh*t. I agree that they had no experience whatsoever and they should have done a better job, but in this case, maybe you can give them a free pass for a lot of things...?

THIS is the worst looking 360/PS3 game. It makes that MIB game look amazing in comparison.

ss17.jpg

Looks like a combination of SNES mode 7, PSX trees, and buildings from Blast Corps. Yep this wins.

I agree, especially on a movie tie-in like this. Now it seems to be a downward spiral.. movie tie-in games make less money (because they suck), so the studios cut the budgets way down, which makes them suck even more, thus making less money, so they cut the budgets... ad infinitum.

I honestly can't remember the last good movie tie-in game. That's assuming there was ever a good movie tie-in game.. I can't think of any off the top of my head. But this trash.. this has to take the cake. It's astounding that Activision thought they could charge full retail for this. People need to take this kind of shit back to the store, and they can open up a new landfill right next to E.T. to dump all the discs in.

First thing I thought of was Nier. There are times where I was impressed by the graphics yet it was my first thought. Which brings us to why: it is inconsistent. Whoever said that it looked like a late generation PS2 games at times was dead on.

It's not nearly the worst though. Thankfully this late in the gen even most of the stinker look somewhat decent.

If Deadly Premonition is anywhere near as fun as its cutscenes are hilariously awful, I may have to check it out.

The combat sequences are absolutely hideous...as in, some of the worst in any game ever.

But if you can get past that, the rest of the game is incredibly enjoyable. Game has a lot of charm. I seriously considered giving up on the game after a couple hours, but I'm really glad I stuck with it for the long haul. It's worth it alone for the unique experience it provides.

As for the topic at hand, it's definitely one of the worst looking games on 360/PS3, though it was a budget title.

Shadow of the Colossus is graphically just a good-looking PS2 game, disappointing after all the hype. Ico looked even worse

Well Shadow of the Colossus is a PS2 game and Ico was originally a PS1 game so uh... no shit?

You know I'm not sure. I know its the Source Engine (which needs an update badly, unless CS:GO uses an updated one).
All their games use an updated source engine. Their games actually look pretty good for how old that engine is.

Vampire Rain was pretty atrocious. Keep in mind that this is a 2008 PS3/360 release. It could easily be mistaken for a budget PS2 game.

I came in here ready to mention Brave: A Warrior's Tale, and was weirdly surprised to see this was an MIB thread.

That Quick Look cracked me up. If this game were 20 dollars and downloadable, I'd buy it.
