CINCINNATI (AP) - Some Ohio high school sports teams are sharing rides with rivals as coaches look for ways to cut costs and deal with soaring gasoline prices.

They've started combining various teams' trips and eliminating some of the longer ones.

One athletic director in suburban Cincinnati says his travel budget has doubled in the past five years, and that costs have to be adjusted every month because of fluctuating gas prices.

Coaches, players and fans say the new togetherness among rivals would have been unthinkable a few years ago.

Pierce and Kobe wouldn't make it past the first pit stop.

Yeah they would, because professional rivalries don't tend to be as blood-fueled. Now......college and high school ones, those do. So I can see this ending kinda badly heh.

This would not have worked when I played fooball. We could barely share a field without a fight. Even coaches had beefs.

most NBA players don't really hold real grudges anymore.. despite the magnitude ESPN tries to hype up rivalries, it isn't as personal as college sports (as well past generations of NBA).

Players routinely hang out with players from "rival" teams, even sleeping over/playing video games/going out to dinner when other teams are in town.

Professional team rivalries are a joke. They'd be fine.

Now, put OSU and Michigan, or some local high school rivals on a bus together, and there'd be fireworks. And there probably will be fireworks with this high schools plan.
