Would you be content with gaming the rest of your life with only your current library/backlog?

I think I would be content with only playing what I own already, across Steam, PS, Xbox and Switch 1&2.

My backlog is easily 100+ across all platforms. Damn you Steam sales! And I tend to only buy the good ones that I know I'll replay.

Just curious how others feel.
 
I've done over a 100 run of the same vault boss in BL4 and plan to do hundreds more if I need to so, yeah. My specific tism makes it so I will be more than content lol.
 
For sure! I've barely tackled the catalogue of games in Sega consoles or the PS1 and PS2, plus my PC backlog is massive.

And best of all, most of those are better than the 70€ slop being released nowadays.
 
I'd sure like GTA6 and FH6 to be added to my library but yeah, I'd be good. So many series/franchises I own but have yet to play.
 
Definitely. Not interested in a lot of the latest games/genres so could happily just live with what I've got

Bout 800 Steam
Maybe 200 on GOG
Maybe 150+ on PSN
Around 50+ on Xbox
30-40 on Switch

physically I reckon maybe 350 or so (mainly 360 and below gen, down to NES)

My collection is tiny compared to many here

Well it sure slanting that way, games like James Bond are taking an absolute age to come out, and you can't replicate Motorstorm or Blur these days, much less Ridge Racer, and who knows where Mass Effect is going
 
I'm 45. I'm a bit of a health nut, so I'm hoping to be functional at 90. I have a backlog like everyone else, but I don't think it would keep me entertained for 45 years.
 
Lets try some of these weird games I got on the Epic store. I have over 500 obscure free games in that library. 10 hours to 100% each game on average would be close to 8 years to get through that library.
This is if I play 2 hour a day every day for 8 years. 8 years of nothing but weird Epic store games. :(

With what I own in my library? Not really.
Assuming I could still buy / pirate games release before the cutoff date, or you give me a 1 week heads up to get ready before the cutoff, sure.
 
Yeah, I have like 1000+ games between Steam and GoG, a few hundred between three consoles and a ton of retro games from SNES / Genesis / PC Engine onward.

I could stop buying games now and play my library (it's not a backlog! 🧐😅😉) for the next 50 years.
 
Said another way, if I were on a desert island, I could make only having my current library/backlog work to pass the time.

My bread-and-butter would be the games that are systems-driven and have replay value. The modern XCOMs, Baldur's Gate 3--I could squeeze 1000 more hours out of those alone.

Tbh, it might be nice to be forced to fully engage with each new game, knowing I would never be tempted to move onto the latest release.
 
my only caveat would be like, for example i like street fighter, i would want to play sf7, sf8 etc. when they come out, but other than that yes.

No. I have trouble finding games I want to invest my time in as it is. I don't have a backlog. I do have a pile of games that I bought but decided I wasn't interested in playing. If I were confined to those, I would opt out and find something better to do with my time, like post on GAF.
 
Well yeah, i would, i haven't added any new games since Cyberpunk anyway, apart from Fallout London which some will say it doesn't count, i'm hoping that will start to change with Bloodlines 2 and TOW 2 then onto some of next year's releases, but it might not as well.

For sure. Most of the games I've purchased and enjoyed this year are just rereleases or remakes of games I've loved in the past.
 
I want to say yes as my backlog is huge and it contains some really big games I haven't even touched yet, plus I love replaying old favorites. On the other hand I'd always be curious what else could be created in the future. Imagine asking this question a year ago and not experiencing something like Clair Obscur. Obviously pure gems are very rare, but they still appear.

Haha, I use a similar scenario all the time; If you were stuck on a dessert island or locked in prison for life with only one game to play, which would it be?

Also, if you could only eat at one restaurant for the rest of your life, which would it be?

The game I usually pick is something deep and complicated with a map building, like Starcraft 2. For a eating it's one of those soup-or-salad places. :p

I have 1000+ pc games combined with GOG, Steam, Epic (eww), Disk based games, etc...
I have all current consoles (ps5, series x, switch 1/2)
Retro consoles and minis - Wii/GCube, PS1 classic, Snes Mini, Genesis Mini, TG16 Mini, (snes mini has full collection of nes, snes, master system and tg16 games, genesis has master system , 32x, sega cd, etc..., ps1 has 109 titles loaded in a carousel)
10000s of games going back to my youth in the 1980s. Shit I could spend a year playing Gold box AD&D and might and magic games.

Then there are mods. Thief 1, 2 and The Dark mod has 100s of custom levels and content. Neverwinter nights 1 and 2 do as well.

There is so much games to play.

What I am missing is Time.
 
Probably not. Im generally not for revisiting things i complete unless its an all time great game for me.
I also tend to avoid backlog by completing things before i jump in on the next.

Entertained for a few years sure. Rest of my life - nope
 
My backlog goes across Steam, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, 3DS, Switch and a bunch of emulated old games I missed from many years back. I probably wouldn't need to ever buy another game again.
I very rarely buy new games when they first come out as it is.
 
Just digitally I estimate I have 1500+ games between PSN, Nintendo, Steam and GOG.

I also have a massive physical library, including a couple of modded systems on top of that with complete catalogue's

If games stopped releasing I would love it, and so would my wallet.

The video game industry could completely crash or dissappear and I would have plenty of games to play for the rest of my life.

I would be more concerned with system failure etc. At that point

Nope, next 2 years i could somehow be fine but coming 2027-2028 with so many next gen/ next crossgen games coming up i need them all in my veins, and lets not forget 2026 juggernaut- gta6. thats a musthave game to many of us obviously.

I don't think so. So many games I'll bounce off of. So if I forced myself to finish them, that would stretch it out a lot, I guess. I could that up civ? Even then, I'm stuck with the current version while sequels come out. Mp ga.es will die out relatively soon, too.
 
I have over 100 Steam and Gog games, 30 PSN games, 30 Switch games, downloads of every cartridge based game ever made, downloads of the noteworthy games for every system up to PS2, every PC88/98 game, every Atari game including the 8 Bit catalog, Dumps+CHDs for 200 arcade games, 200 Doom WADs, and modded Minecraft. Even if servers went down today, assuming I don't get hit with an EMP or massive fire I have a lifetime of games at my disposal.
