I'm just curious, as now that he is leaving the Daily Show and has interviewed sitting presidents, there is speculation that he wants to become one.

On the one hand, I personally think the idea screams of ridiculousness given his background.

On the other hand, I think the American public has shifted its perception of what it wants out of its leaders so viciously in the last 20 years that anything is possible.

I would at least consider it. He is highly educated and understands the very complicated nature of many issues in ways that most people don't.

Poll time?

What? No.

Look, I like Stewart. Been watching him for almost 2 decades but his wheel house is making fun of the idiocy in politics. Not participating in it.

I'd settle for world leader.

Lord no. He's just a fucking pundit and he's spent the last five or six years playing Fox News clips and making funny faces after them. What on earth makes you think he's qualified to be the most powerful person on Earth?

No.

Impossible to answer this without knowing his platform.

I'm not going to immediately dismiss it just because he's a comedian, though.

Hey, if Dubya could do it I'm sure Stewart could too. Would have to surround himself with the right people though.

Er, I mean... No!

No.

I wouldn't want him to go through the same value compromise/corruption cycle that almost all political leaders participate in.

Why the hell not? 90% of the 'respectable' politicans out there are corrupt anyways. We give lawyers and millionaires our respect and our countries are getting run into the ground anyway. Why not try something different? At least you know he's going to be on the sane side of many of the social issues we argue over.

No. I never understood the people that said Stewart/Colbert 20XX, and we're actually serious about it.

He's intelligent and insightful, but that makes him a valued commentator, not a politician.

Edit:
Though I find most politicians to be useless anyways.

No, he'd never run anyway. Also, I don't think his health would be up to the task. Guy looks like he's aged five years in the last two, and that's just from commenting on politics.

He's a comedian, not presidential material.

Fuck no

Yeah hes clearly not as up to the job as the super elite bunch of dipshits that have made their way on to ballots in the last 12 years.....

Not saying Stuart would be a good Pres but candidates arent exactly the cream of the crop these days. Qualifications dont matter anymore, its how well you can play the game.

...I don't think anyone has seriously suggested he would run. Just coincidental timing between the end of his contract & the presidential race.

He would stand no real chance with zero political experience and no military service record.

It's not outside the realm of possibility for him to eventually run for President, if he really wanted to, but he would need to first have some political experience under his belt - by running for governor or congress and use that as a stepping stone into a Presidential race. Even Reagan had been governor of California for 8 years before running (and served 8 years in the military).

If he became a governor for 10 years or so, and proved that he is capable.

Yeah, maybe.

Jon Stewart would be the first to tell you that you'd have to be an idiot to vote for him. And it's not because he is less qualified than some of the other geniuses we've seen that run for elected office, its because it would simply ruin everything he stood for, which his being a comedian. He doesn't want to Goraffolo himself and he doesn't see himself as a Franken.

Yeah he is missing the all important quality of being a liar and a cheat in order to be considered a politician.

No, i wish people would stop saying "I like person, they should be president"

We need a better congress.

No because I'm worried it would ruin him. It would be like he was a hero for long enough to become the villain.

Also I'm Canadian so I couldn't.
