A comedian for US President? That would be something.

this is ridiculous.

Vice President at most.
Biden for president Jon for vp! Imagine the fun that would produce. Depending his platform I might vote for him. I won't throw him under the bus because of lack of experience. Can't be worse than the hacks already in office. For fucks sake we have senator who's claim to office is being in the national guard and cutting pig balls off.

For anybody that cant take Jon Stewart seriously, Im not sure how you cant. The guy is pretty genuine, and he's show that time after time.

I don't think that's the issue, so much as he's not a "politician type", and he's almost too insightful for his own good. Obama wasn't a politician on the surface, but he's had his share of detractors from both sides for being underwhelming or too soft on things he took a hardline on in the campaign.

Not at all. Why would he be a candidate? Maybe as a congressman. We have had a "comedian" do that and actu4get reelected. Then again that was the same state that elected a WWF wrestler as governor ha

He's a funny dude and all, but the qualifications for POTUS are WAY above him.

I don't even know why he would want the gig anyway. He could have any TV job he wants (even he if wants to get into serious journalism) and if he has serious aspirations for politics, he can start at the local level as a grassroots organizer or state congressman.

Being the ultimate and incredibly visible fall guy for whatever ills affect the free world and whatever half-brained schemes Congress/lobbyists/PACs/military industrial complex dream up isn't desirable anymore unless you just like taking years off your life for fun.

No, it's important that the President is an old guy who has been a congressman for 38 years.

There's probably 0 chance that I'd vote for him in the primary.

However, if he won the Democratic nomination, I'd vote for him over any Republican candidate I can recall from the last couple elections. Except for maybe Jon Huntsman, depending on his campaign.

I seriously hope this doesn't happen any time soon.

Al Franken is arguably the biggest policy wonk in the senate.

I think him running for President would be awesome. He wouldn't win, but he has alot of money and could fund himself enough to end up in the primary debates to keep the discussion honest.

jon stewart is not sitting on the kind of cash needed to fund a strong primary campaign.

perhaps with a sweeping donation drive, but not by himself.

No, I actually like Jon Stewart and wouldn't want to do that to him. He would likely be a dusty skeleton by the end of his first term.

This is my feeling as well. You may like Jon Stewart now but who knows how your opinion of him will change after he has to do the political dance for a few years.

We could really use a 'I haven't researched his politics enough to give an answer at this time' option.

Without it, the poll is pretty pointless.

If he ran for some other position that I could vote for I'd give him a shot but I don't think I'd vote for him without him having some experience in government.

I don't think I would. I would consider it, but I'd almost certainly decide against it. He's a good observer and commentator of politics, but I don't know if I'd trust him enough as a politician (haha, trusting politicians, I know, crazy) to vote for him for president.

I would, but it would be hesitant. I think he would have good intentions and would lack ulterior motives. Which would be a blessing IMO. I think he would call bullshit out for being bullshit and could relate to the american people about policy that might seem dry or convoluted. IE the debt ceiling.

I don't always agree with his economical perspectives though and wonder how he would do on the international stage.

I like Jon Stewart but no. In fact unless he outright says he'd consider it and the democratic party said they were interested this is no different than someone asking 'should Y famous person be president' so I can't take it too seriously.

why not have a straight up Yes or No poll?

why interject things like ''he would make the White House funnier'' into the Yes option?

it's a silly question because Jon Stewart to person is quite intelligent and has nuanced views on various issues and would be a way more serious President than a Bush

If the Daily Show continued after Stewart's departure, and Stewart ran for president, I'd love to see their coverage of him.

Wouldn't other countries not take us seriously?

Other countries take us seriously because they buy things from eachother using USD
eeznut
z and because we could glass any of them at the drop of a hat. Unless Stewart defaults on the debt and abolishes the military I don't really see that changing.

I think he's very publicly made his political positions pretty clear over the last 15 years.

And not everyone regularly watches his show.

I know he's obviously liberal on many issues, but that's so high-level it's meaningless. That's like saying Rand Paul is conservative. It says little.

Yes but it's not because he's funny. He's actually very intelligent, has solid perspective, and seemingly willing to take the gloves off for progress.

People in this thread acting like being a president or politician in this country, or any country for that matter requires anything more than connections.

I'd rather vote for a random person whose name I pull out of a hat than anyone currently in politics aside from a very small selection of progressive people.

Him and colbert would be great world leaders imo. They smart and very knowledgeable on politics. I feel theyd be less influenced by corruption and whatnot.

I have more confidence in them than half the people running.
