If you're on the lookout for a celebrity president in the foreseeable future, I recommend George Clooney. There were rumors he's thinking about entering politics.

You guys are funny.
You elected a movie star as governor, had presidents whose credentials are 'son of previous president'
But this is too far!

To be fair, the Californians wouldn't be the first ones to make a weird, somewhat mediocre artist from Austria their leader.

Governor is altogether different. Jesse Ventura was also a governor btw, so we elected two movie stars. From Predator. Waiting for Bill Duke to run still...

George W., love him or hate him, was a Texas governor and politician, not just the son of a president, and political dynasties are not uncommon.

Edit: Yeah, and Reagan. A legit movie star turned politician and president.

Impossible to answer this without knowing his platform.

I'm not going to immediately dismiss it just because he's a comedian, though.

This is my take on it too. True, as a comedian there is potential for ridicule against him, especially with his older non-news material. However, he's obviously a very intelligent and dedicated individual, and comedy is his job, not something that he needs to be ashamed of in the slightest. Reagan was an actor, after all, and there's nothing to stop Stewart from seeking office.
That said, presidential aspirations at this point would be absurd. He'd be more likely to seeks a Senate seat first, I imagine.

He should try his hand at a smaller political position and work his way up to become president. I won't vote for anyone without any experience in the position. Who knows though? Maybe he would reveal himself to be a great governor or congressman in the future. I mean look at Al Franken. Going from SNL to the senate was a strange career shift.

Hell no.

I'd vote for him in other political offices, however.

Edit: Changed my mind, I'd consider voting for him, zero political experience isn't exactly a negative.

He understands the people more than most politicians. That immediately makes him more qualified than a majority of politicians, experience be damned.

I don't think he could possibly win. He's basically a liberal icon, which would make it difficult for him to appeal to the middle ground/ undecided vote (which is really the group that ends up deciding most elections).

Aside from that, it would be pretty ridiculous to vote in someone as President, if they had no other political experience. As smart as he may be, he's likely to get eaten alive and/or heavily manipulated in that context.

Jon Stewart is more intelligent than a lot of the officials we already have. I'd vote for him if he had a solid political career, but not right now.

Talk about idle speculation. If Stewart's the man I think he is, then I couldn't see him wanting to run for president without suitable political experience first. So, not happening anytime soon if I've read the man right. If he eventually does run for president, by that point I'd expect him to be about as qualified for it as any other candidate that we've had.

Depends on what kind of platform he runs on and who he's be running against. Just deciding in a vacuum is pointless. But, given the way his political leanings are as I understand from his show, sure. I'd vote for him against any Generic Republican.

I don't even know his platform. I'm not voting for a guy just because they're a self professed liberal. Show me your plans.

Lol, if Ronald Reagan made the gradual transition from actor to president, I'd like to see it repeated today. I don't think he'd make it, but I can't say there wouldn't be a swell of support for him across certain demographics.

For anybody that cant take Jon Stewart seriously, Im not sure how you cant. The guy is pretty genuine, and he's show that time after time.

I'd vote for him. I'd vote for a actual clown too. Or any random schmoe on the street.

I've got no confidence that anyone in a position to actually become president has my or the people's interests at heart anyway.

I sincerely doubt any of this would happen, but his views seem to align with my own (to a general degree). I'd like to see his platform first.

I could see myself voting for him though if he could do the job well. I don't see any reason we should scoff at the idea when we clearly have a history with electing far more unfit individuals for the job.

No.

This probably goes without saying but the job of being President of the United States is pretty difficult.

It's always easier to criticize than to actually do it. I like Stewart a lot. Terrible idea.

Face it america, it's only a matter of time until you elect a porn star or a wrestler. And when you elect the former there'll be a presidential fleshlight.

Sure. Beats everyone I've heard is running in the next Presidential election. Though I'd prefer for him to start off as a congressman or governor or something to that extent.

I think him running for President would be awesome. He wouldn't win, but he has alot of money and could fund himself enough to end up in the primary debates to keep the discussion honest.

No, He has no desire for it and I don't think he's the kinda guy I'd want making war and peace decisions.
When was the last time we had a president with actual experience making war and peace decisions? Obama is a real smart guy, but it's not his strong suit, and his record is very mixed. While the chances of anyone doing worse than W is very, very slim.
