Wow after reading some of the E3 threads on here,

themadcowtipper

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
I have come to the conclusion some people are going to have to be put on suicide watch. I don't believe anything can live up to the hype that is building. I know E3 is an exciting time for gamers, but is this some peoples first E3? I have hope for all gen systems as much as the next guy, but I think some people are expecting the machines to change earth rotation, anything less= doomed. I just hope some people will realize that nothing give live up to all this hype.

Nah, I just personally expected a bit bigger leap in visuals from a next-gen system. MS have said it wouldn't be a huge one, but I didn't think it would be this small.

They really should have rode the Xbox out for another year and released 360 nearer to PS3 and Rev.

I've got a box full of razor blade and a long list of demands. You might be right, sir.

I specifically asked for a quantum leap with a side order of magnitude! Send this generation back!

it really makes me wonder if some of the people here actually enjoy playing games or just like nitpicking them

People expect a huge leap before they shell out 300 for a new console.

Im buying all three regardless......Im gonna want those new Xbox 360 games (theres no way id miss that launch) ps3 's gonna have must have games (sony won't launch without a fight) and Rev's gonna have the great Nintendo first party games they are known for ....A WINNER IS US ......you guys need to relax and enjoy the freakin games.

then go on playing what you got now and wait for the next consoles to be $149... for the rest of us, the jump from 480i to 1080i is justification enough. IMO, the improved features of next gen consoles justifies the purchase. If I wanted earth shattering graphics, I would have completely avoided console games and stuck with a PC.

People on here hate games. A lot of them especially hate xbox games. So you have to just skim most threads with all the news hitting.

This has happened before. For instance, the DC -> PS2 jump seemed a step backwards at launch, looking at many of the games in the first year. Only later did it clearly separate itself from the previous generation.

MS is in an interesting position right now... as the first out the box they'll be pushing that their system and all games support hi def resolutions... however, at least in the US, most consumers have not made high def TV purchases yet. Yes, yes, the #'s are increasing in terms of general consumer purchase, but only a fraction of those folks are also gamers.

How do you make hi def a selling point when much of your userbase won't be able to take advantage of that one particular feature?

Free XBL weekends is a pretty f'n smart idea...

MS never had a problem marketing the Xbox as the only console with built-in broadband... it didn't seem to hinder them.

It's just a feature... some people, like me, will jump on the HD feature. Others will jump on the custom faceplates, for others it may be the wireless controllers, etc.

Sadly, most people will buy the console without knowing any of the features or games... they'll buy it because they can't resist mass marketing. Much like the PS2 and iPod.

ot: like the new avatar... it's no cowbell, but I got a good laugh from it.

Teddman, as usual, speaks the truth. We can't just look at the launch titles and think that they will provide as much of a distinction as we know that there is.

I'm a bit miffed by the N64 -> Whatever statements. Of course it's not going to seem like as huge a jump. N64 and PSX were basic 3D systems. N64 and PSX were low resolution. N64 and PSX had horrible, if any, textures and texture clarity. It's akin to saying that the jump from the old classic arcade games (Pong, Space Invaders) to NES/Sega Master System/Atari xx00 was a better jump than the jump to SNES/Genesis. You have to expect diminishing return when it's the refinement of existing technologies.

True, I just don't know if the adoption of HD TV's is comparable to the adoption of broadband gaming in the US....

The masses are a bit blind in that respect...

This is very true.
