Wow PSVR & PS4 Pro gouging is srs

Like many, I had a few PSVR parties over the holidays, and have been receiving "what do I need to buy and where" emails from friends afterward. In the process of writing up the various options I've noticed that both PSVR and the PS4 Pro are pretty much entirely unavailable online still. Amazon & Ebay resellers are marking both up by $200++!

Has Sony mentioned anything at all about next production batches?

I mean... I walked right into my target and bought my pro at retail, and both target and best buy had walls of unsold units... I mean, YMMV, but neither have been hard to find mid-florida at least.

They increased production of PlayStation VR if I remember correctly, but clearly not to the degree where they can satisfy demand. Both should become more available in the New Year; hopefully the enthusiasm for the products won't have faded by then.

And none of them tried Wal-mart?

Heard people saying that PSVR stocks sell out fast even after restocks so it's really down to luck at the moment. I believe you can still buy a PRO at Best Buy though.

Pro should be easy to get, but the PSVR is sold out everywhere till the second half of January except for the typical charge of shipment here and there.

Pro's are not THAT hard to find. Often, the Slims sell out before the Pros do.

Now the PSVR I literally had to manhunt for 2 months until I tracked one down 40 miles from where I live and race there just to get the one and only one that Walmart had received for days. Good luck on that one, Space Cowboy.

They all allergic to walking into stores? Best Buy, Target and Walmart all around me have Pros in stock, so I have a hard time believing other stores around the country have none

Edit: Target, Walmart, Best Buy all have Pros for sale online, I just spent 30 seconds checking heh

PSVR supply is a bit short, but the Pro? Not even close.

If you want to see what a low supply console actually is, look at the NES Mini.

Yep, further searching, it does seem like the Pro won't be an issue. PSVR though..... Going to check a few places near work to see what in-store availability is like.

YMMV but my local Best Buy had two on December 23rd. Retailers are probably restocking after the holidays too.

It's funny how things can differ by region.

There's not a Pro in sight here, sold out everywhere for practically months unless you pay a ridiculous price.
Meanwhile there are STACKS of PSVRs sitting around.

I'm shocked PSVR is selling this well...

I've found Pro's pretty easily in Maryland but a local Gamestop stated that there isn't a PSVR within 100 miles. Thus far, it seems to be pretty accurate. I've searched as far as Charlestown and can't find a single bundle.

I was hoping to snag a device before NYE as a party system of sorts but no luck.

In the mean time PSVR is super easy to find in France while you have to "special order" a pro (but you get it within 48 hours, at lesst at FNAC)

And there's this Asia where both are out of stock... Hell, Playstation Asia doesn't even talk about them on Facebook anymore because it has nothing to sell to us.

Wasn't there an article on Gamespot about a month ago saying that PSVR's early sales projections will be downgraded and that it's expected to sell less than 750 thousand units before the end of the year? I wonder if this is Sony playing cautiously or do they in fact struggle with parts and can't produce more units.

Meanwhile both can be bought (PSVR even below MSRP) without reservations in The Netherlands (EU). Is it really selling that fast in the US?

Have there actually been any more shipments in the last few weeks? I got the impression there isn't going to be a restock until mid January. Its seems like whatever Sony sent out to retailers has been sold and resellers are currently the only route to securing a unit, at heavy mark-up of course.

Could be a mixture of both.

Sony's not Nintendo; they usually can satisfy demand for their products fairly promptly. On the flip side, I'm sure they're aware that PSVR is a niche product, and that it wasn't going to sell 10 million on day one, so there was no need to produce that many.

Either way, I wouldn't fault them as this is not their norm. I'm sure they're trying to produce as many as they can right now.

Have you checked the used market? I'm not saying that I have, but at least a few people changed their mind on it and might have theirs on eBay, etc. It ought to be in good condition, considering it's obviously less than 2 months old.

Anecdotal, but demand seems to have dropped off a cliff in New Zealand. You can pretty much walk in and get one at major retailers. A friend who works at JB Hi-Fi is pretty much begging people to come in and pick one up. Seems like the early adopters swooped in and post Christmas everyone is re-evaluating priorities. I know I was going to pick one up but decided to clear some debts instead.

Gouging won't last. Supplies were tight because of the holidays but in a few weeks they'll be hitting shelves at MSRP again.

I haven't seen a single Pro or PSVR box in my nearest GameStop ever since the thing(s) first came out. The thirst is real.

There is a pallet of PS4 Pro's sitting in the gaming section of my nearest Best Buy as of like a week ago. They are not that hard to find at retail or online. PSVR is another thing, that's harder to find and I could see it getting a price hike online from places like EBay.

It's really bad in Japan, especially for vr. People are getting quite frustrated at the lack of stock resupply here and the insane markups by second hand sellers, upwards of two times the price. I keep looking hoping to find one on sale but the only time they had a restock the stores did it by lottery because the supplies where so incredibly low, and the chances of winning it were almost nil. It's a darn shame cause I know people who haven't bought a console in ages who would buy one now if PSVR were easily available as they really want one.

And while not as hot as vr, pro can't be found anywhere either anymore, although at least with that it was available easy at launch for the first few days.

Really hope Sony does something to fix this. People are getting quite frustrated by this in Japan.

Amazon UK is out of stock on Pro but my local Game has em on the shelf. PSVR though? Yeah that's tricky to find pretty much everywhere.

Pro is easy to get hold of but unless you are prepared to pay a reseller over the odds the PSVR is tricky to come by but if you use a stock tracker website and are quick when they pop up people should be able to get one. Move controllers on the other hand are almost impossible to get.

Is there a recommended stock tracking site?

PSVR was pretty much in-stock and easy to find at local stores until black friday. Haven't seen one since. Gamestop has on in a bundle for $700 lol.

You would think that Sony would be on point in that region in particular, they should definitely do something quick.

I see the Pro everywhere. Not sure what country OP is from. In one Best Buy they literally constructed a fort out of them lol. But yea haven't seen many VR units.

But I thought Sony had stock to last decades and it was Nintendo who couldn't meet demand due to incompetence/conspiracy :P

Nah but seriously PSVR and the Pro most likely got conservative production levels over Christmas, they're the more niche, more untested Playstation products after all. It's best to just wait a month or two for stock to level out and prices to come down, I know I'd never pay the extortionate prices some places (looking at you, CEX) are asking for PSVR.

If you're looking for a PSVR Amazon Spain and Amazon Italy have some that they say will be in stock on the 5th and 3rd of January, respectively. ~£350. I ordered from Amazon Spain weeks ago and the PSVR turned up just fine. You may need to sign up for an Amazon Spain Prime to order, and the power outlet will be the two-pronged, however the PSVR processor box will use the kind of power cable the PS4 and PS3 Slim use.

This is also for anyone else in the UK who's looking for a PSVR.

Depends where you live. After selling out initial shipments in november, Sony shipped a whopping 500units for entire Korea in early December.

I had luck with the PSVR, going trough gamestop website ordered the moment it went live with Until Dawn, however as I do not live in the US I had to send it to my uncle in Chicago, who then had to resend it to me to Miami while I were traveling there..

Had to pay 90 USD to be shipped urgently to Miami to be able to collect it during my business trip.. Also the local UPS charge an additional 15 USD just to receive the package >=(

Well at least the thirst for PSVR remains strong. I'm holding out till there are a few more must have games but its good to see the momentum is still there

Same here. I need to see a few more RE7-caliber games at E3 to justify a purchase. Resi 7 and Ace Combat 7 are the only two games I'm really interested in right now.
