Yay, Tampa! I'm gonna be back there on Tuesday evening when I'm home for Thanksgiving.

2 more days....

Some servers are up because blizzard employees are allowed to play early.

That's how my guild is already set up and we already have our server (frostwolf).

Could you possibly give us the full server list?

How would that get anyone in trouble?

o_O;;

Because Blizzard obviously doesn't want the server names to be public knowledge yet and since his friends work there he doesn't want to get them in trouble by releasing that information.

Anyone with the CE listened to the soundtrack yet? I love the music in WoW. Wondered what tracks are on it

ok, that's an acceptable reason.

^_~

I sure wish they'd release the names though. I have a lot of friends that are going to be playing and we want to start on the same server.

A company that knew what they were doing when it came to MMO player support would do such a thing, yes. Players expect to know the server names in advance (and I don't mean the day before ship) so guilds can plan where they want to play.

An easy way to get around this is

a) pick the server with the most/least vowel/consonants
b) first/last on the list
c) most/least letter in server name

I agree that it's a pain in the arse though.

Yeah, exactly why :) But if you want a west coast PvP server, I recommend Frostwolf!

The World of Warcraft Collector's Edition is the best CE I've ever seen for a game. Holy cow you guys who got it will love it.

I agree with this. I remember the Warcraft III Collector's Edition was really nice, unlike that box with a shirt in it that Valve called the Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition.

Account creation will not be available until the servers are available. Also, don't expect the server names to be released before they are available for play. I'm sure that those of you who are business-minded can see why it would be important to keep the number and types of servers under wraps for as long as possible.

Uh, this is a MMORPG not Battle.net. You can't treat your players like B.net users. There are large guilds who expect to know server names in advance so they can plan on where to play. This is something that every other MMORPG has done in the past and your typical MMORPG player expects to have this information.

DAoC, CoH, Lineage II, Star Wars Galaxies, EQOA, EQII, etc. all realized that the community was important to the game and released server names at least a week before launch so people who play together can figure out where they will play on day 1.

It has nothing to do with being "business minded", it has to do with knowing how to deal with the MMORPG player base and their expectations. Something Blizzard obviously doesn't understand.

It's also unfair that Fires of Heaven and Legacy of Steel know the server names in advance just because Furor and Tigole work for Blizzard now (Afterlife knows as well).

Large Uber Guilds != Entire player base.

WoW is an MMO catered for casual gamers, Uber guilds can wait in line like everyone else to find out which server they're going to be on. It is a slight inconvenience to us all and nothing more.

SOE are the masters of thoughtful, community-minded decisions.

I definately haven't been able to find it anywhere here in the midwest yet. Oh well.. doesn't matter much as long as the servers aren't available.

they arent clueless i was once released into the netherworld on death , i was just in some big canyon in the burning steppes , and terror wing path, i couldnt get out , didnt show up on the map no way to get back to my body. They found me even though i was on an alt and quickly resolved the problem, and that was with an open beta. I've seen more incompetent gm server before "cough cough shadowbane" cough.

You also have to worry about a fucking clueless GM department.

Like in EQ.

Jesus, EQ is the bottom of the gaming barrel: a shoody scattershot of poor statistical control, no real gameplay, and an easily abusable economy are but three of the things that hold it back from joining the pantheon of real games.

'course, WoW isn't much better, but at least it looks pretty while doing it.
