Microsoft's latest attempt to suck up to EA was not nearly as successful as when they axed thier entire sports divison.

So is this just bogus or does this mean anything? Remember 3 years ago when Rare had that Christmas card and nobody believed it........

it's very unlikely to happen, but its fun to speculate.

this would be BEYOND huge.

anyone have a picture of rare's christmas card?

Well when MS first got involved in this whole thing they put up an offer for Nintendo didn't they? How much would it cost them to buy EA?

About 5 Billion dollars, that was the price they were asking when VIacom was thinking of buying EA out.

That's a drop in the bucket for Billy G. How bad would that screw over PS2 owners next year who would have to buy an Xbox just to play an NFL football game?

Money is irrelevant here. EA has shown itself to be an active party in acquiring licenses and shares of other companies. It won't be the passive member in a deal. When you're so freakin' high on top, you want to expand as much as you can, business-wise.

Wait...you guys think because there's an Xbox underneath that tree, there is something going on between EA and MS? This forum never fails to amuse me. Seriously, that's just pushing it already.

its obviously all just speculation.

How was your copy of asain balls 3: kung fuck?

The games all have their system banner at the top removed, so it isn't all pro-XBOX. The XBOX is probably there because it comes bundled with NCAA 2005.

I don't see how that's pushing it when MS was thinking about coughing up 20-25 billion to purchase Ninty back in the day. 5 billion to Billy G is probably a drop in the bucket.

this would be horrible...

one football game...

on one system...

man...

I totally agree, one football game on one system only would totally suck.

It wouldn't make much sense though for MS to buy EA when Sega was throwing $19.99 ESPN games at them, but now that Madden has a 5 year exclusive with the NFL....

ea does all kinds of joint marketing stuff with microsoft, doesnt mean a thing
they even gave my whole team free copies of halo 2

If MS is actually this smart you can't say you didn't see the clues.

MS finally gets EA on Live for Madden 2005.

MS cancels or sells all remaining sports franchises.

EA buys the exclusive rights to the NFL.

EA buys a 20% stake in Ubisoft.

EA buys a majority of Ubisoft???

MS buys EA thus acquiring Ubisoft as well???

Could the shit really hit the fan this much?

microsoft has been saying lately it's all about the software next-gen and no one brings the software like EA does.

EA market cap is 19B, and MS would have to offer EA shareholders much more to be able to acquire them, so that is out of the possibility IMHO. But an alliance of the sorts is quite possible.

Good God, xboxgamers.com is taking one huge, massive, inhuman leap of faith with this twisted logic:

We arnt jumping to conclusions here but, remember when Rare sent Christmas cards 3 years ago with an xbox and ps2 under the tree and later that year they were purchased by Microsoft?

Wishful thinking, the lot of you. EA didn't make it's billions by limiting itself to one freakin' console. To paraphrase Freud, sometimes a Christmas card is just a Christmas card.

I can't help but feel that Santa is violating that poor woman.
:lol :lol i was going too post this shocking fact. EA sure mess up people heads with their cheddars, i mean, even santa is in the game now

The Xbox in this picture is the Fifa bundle available in Europe, so it's not that surprising.
But on the other side they made sure that the games had no distinctive xbox/ps2/ngc logo, and could have included the european Gamecube Bond bundle.
Very strange choice, but I really doubt it means anything.

Rather than the Xbox under the tree, I'd put much more attenction on the glowing, *GREEN* jewel they're putting on top of it ;-) But these are too much x-filesish speculations, I don't believe it.

This could simply mean that M$ and EA are quite much more friends now than one year ago. The Live affair, FIFA Interactive World Cup, their support for Xenon... They've simply become great friends, but I don't think they'll go with some sort of buyout or exclusivity deal.

EA makes 44% of their entire profit from PS2 and only 13% from XBOX. Why would they go MS exclusive? That's some fucking big risk in case XBOX2 bombs, or even if it's not by far #1 next gen, and i don't see any advantage for EA either.

Yeah that's highly unlikely, but will it make as much money for EA as being on PS3 and XBOX2 (i'll leave Nintendo out because we don't know what they're up to next gen)? For sure it won't unless XBOX2 becomes the market leader by some margin, and that is just as unlikely. I don't really see what benefit EA gets from doing such a thing.

What I notice besides the X-Box is the RC nearby. That reminds me of RC Pro AM.

The clothes remind me of Jet Force Gemini on the young kid thats crushing that teddy bear.

Maybe this makes too much sense, but maybe the reason the XBox is down there is because it's the XBox Bundle which has NCAA Football 2005, which is an EA Sports game.

I still wonder if EA ever went one console or made their own console if it would cause a conflict of interest with the people they sign their licenses with.

I doubt the NFL would be happy that there's no NFL game on the Playstation 3 or I doubt Warner Bros. would feel the same way about no Harry Potter or no Lord of the Rings games on PS3 either.

I think it's time for a GAF photoshop contest altering this X-mas card. Like putting Blinx or Mario in the picture trying to subliminally suggest something.
