WWE 2K15 First Footage and Gameplay changes

Surely someone's already posted OperationSports' impressions:

http://www.operationsports.com/features/1941/wwe-2k15-full-hands-on-impressions/

Doesn't sound like the worst thing ever.

That's a great write up. Some interesting new information regarding chain wrestling. Really glad you can turn the hud completely off. It's also good to hear that wrestlers who don't normally use chain wrestling style won't be forced to use it just because it's a new mechanic (i.e. big show).

Weight detection sounds exactly how IGN described it so I'm not surprised there.

Interesting to read how in future games we may see some sort of streaming updates with new gear being added as it appears on TV. I wouldn't be surprised if you are required to pay into a season pass for that kind of access though.

Edit: Sounds like there was a behind the scenes build at Summerslam that actually had 2k Showcase playable too.

The HUD has been able to be completely gone for years. The chain wrestling feature has been in the game for years. Neither of those are new mechanics. They just keep hyping stuff that has already been in the series for years, or removed and put back in.

They have attempted chain wrestling in the past but I haven't seen it in a while. The new mechanic sounds a little quicktimey but if they make it work I will give it a shot. The HUD being gone has been by default for years. When I saw it on by default in 2k15 I was a little annoyed. I'm just happy they let you turn it off. It's good to know that I don't need to see a visual primer for the little mini game they make you do at the start of the match.

People have already said it but the lack of Paige is surprising.

They always make big oversights with the roster. I mean Paige debuted and won the championship in APRIL, and was champ for 2 months.

The Miz came back in July and is on the roster. Cody Rhodes became Stardust in Jun and is still Cody Rhodes.

It's just really annoying because you know they will give you these costume/gimmick changes and newer wrestlers but at a very premium cost.

When was the chain grappling thing last used?

Chain grappling is in 2K14. It isn't a QTE, but you can start a grapple from any position and change to different one. There have been roll up chain wrestling QTEs for a couple of years. I don't think there is anything new to this year besides graphics and the my career mode, which is only for PS4/XBone. All these "new" things are just old features that are being added back into the game.

Very few times you will see changes, ala Heyman and Cesaro supposedly being together. Paige not being included right away wouldn't surprise me mainly due to the games rarely including many divas in the first place. As for Miz, he's been in the company for years. Taking a few months off means jack.

They tend to stop the process of roster changes around Wrestlemania time. So it makes sense if Cody isn't in his new get up. If there is any changes to ring gear, I'm hopeful it is for Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins as their gear is different than what they had used as Shield members.

I want to say they started doing more of the chain grappling feature in SvR 2010. It was broken in 2011 because it was far too easy to reverse. This is different than that system because that was entirely based on a tie up and whoever mashed the A/X button faster won; wrestlers also had a Grapple attribute playing a big role into who wins, i.e. Batista is a 90, while somebody like CM Punk would be a 75 or 80, since they're smaller guys.

A deeper look into how it works is something I want to see. Such as, would you see a tie up happen between Kane and Daniel Bryan, despite the large size difference?

Want to know what they're doing with submissions as well since the Breaking Point mash-fest seems to be out. I'm going to assume for now it's like the chain grappling thing with an R-stick lockpick.

The Operation Sports article mentions that you wouldn't be seeing chain wrestling with someone like Big Show since that is not his style.

Wrestlers like the Big Show won't even do a chain grapple however and will start off without it as it's not their style. This further adds to roster feeling very unique between each wrestler.

Don't forget that the roster reveal isn't done yet. Paige could still be included.

This. The Diva's division is getting huge right now, and Paige is one of the biggest reasons for that. No way she's being left out of the roster.

Somewhat related note: I just watched the Ambrose/Rollins match from RAW, went in face-palming at how fans were allowed to choose between a no-DQ match, no-DQ match, or no-DQ match, and came out thinking "I JUST WATCHED THE RETURN OF THE ATTITUDE ERA!" I'm so ****ing stoked for those two! Getting flashbacks of the Rock versus HHH just before they became regular heavyweight champion contenders.

Cut-off date is also usually Wrestlemania for roster decisions. She might be in NXT and be part of that reveal, which would also give hope for people wanting Bo or Adam Rose.

I'm not ready to go into the details of this Q&A.

I have a response for this post that I will share in the weeks leading up to WWE 2k15's launch.

Edit: Oh god. This guy is making the EA Community Dev look like a saint.

I'm convinced this game is getting delayed on Next Gen.

That was a brilliant Q & A,packed with great questions and non answers, IGN first truly pumping out dem goods and over delivering on value.

I think IGN should have made sure the content was there before committing to this game being part of their FIRST series.

It's clear 2k isn't ready to show anything yet.

If the rumours are true, they're not allowed to delay it as part of the contract, so it will released whatever unless they're allowed to just get the 360/PS3 ones out and the current gen ones later. They apparently asked to release it around Wrestlemania.

@adambeat asked: Is the Royal Rumble/Battle Royal gameplay going to have anything new or different?

Overall, the gameplay is going to be significantly improved over WWE 2K14. More depth, more polish and more options – the best wrestling to date that we’ve offered. These offerings will extend across all match types and modes. More details are coming soon.

Masterfully done.

I...wait....what?

Fan of wrestling games since PS1, haven't played many recent ones. Really excited to get back into them.

But...

They are making it really hard to get excited about this one. So much secrecy. Even in text they can't reveal anything? It feels like the game is years out when it's due in few months.

Previews have read well but nothing to back them up so I can't take their word really.

Was it playable at Gamescom? Any user feedback?

It was playable at Gamescom and Summerslam. There are leaked videos. Visually it looks great but it did look like this build still had a lot of the old animations. The write-ups from people who have played it are generally positive but there is a lot we still don't know.

With the new tech they're using to scan people in, I'm worried about the lack of 80's and 90's WWE Legends. I know they can get by without it, but I'm wondering if this is something they'll cut back on.

Gimme my 2K Warrior!

If only they could get all of the tope guys and tag teams from every era in one game. My dreams would be complete.

There are 100 CAW slots in 2k14. You could probably find almost everyone you were looking for online and then just apply their music via custom soundtrack.

It wouldn't be perfect but it's possible.

I've never tried this before but is that a free 'feature' (PS+)? can't even tell these days......

My lord that IGN Q&A.

As someone who has been defending the game here based on the gameplay footage...now even I'm concerned that its a complete mess and should probably be delayed.

Come on 2K.

Well they mentioned in one of the previews that Punk wasn't scanned, and it's very noticeable. Would hate to see a bunch of Legends that look like shit compared to the rest of the roster.

On PS3 it's free as long as you purchased a new copy of the game. With a used copy I believe you will need to buy an online pass. Can't quite remember if 2k14 required one.

Oh jesus, my sides. That Q&A was filled with the most generic PR non answers I've ever seen in the industry. Between this, and EA's recent treatment of the NHL community, I am becoming extremely cynical toward publishers. This game is going to be a rushed, broken mess.

I'm convinced this game is getting delayed on Next Gen.

I told you all this might happen.

Seriously if this was any other game, and the gameplay footage had just leaked, then you would see that developer counter this poorly shot, and poorly played footage with there very own official gameplay trailer. But nope nothing at all. I bet we won't see anything new until the launch trailer. By that point fans won't care enough to cancel their pre-orders, and just deal with the bug ridden mess when they put it into there next-gen console.

People act like this is strange for 2K, but they do it all the time with their NBA series. For some reason, they think a slow drip of information is the best way to build up hype for their games. Doesn't mean it's broken or it's going to be a "buggy mess." It's just 2K's style. Don't know why some people continue to come in here and regurgitate the same bashing and whining.

Fine, but that Q & A is embarrassing. Why bother answering twitter questions if they aren't going to have any answers. Just don't do it.

Why agree to an IGN First if they aren't willing to show anything of substance?
