WWE 2K15 First Footage and Gameplay changes

I really liked last year's wrestlemania mode even though I Got frustrated sometimes... reliving those past moments was great IMO. If they had more rivalries in this game I'd be a lot more interested... Bret vs. Luger vs. Yokozuna. Bret vs. Owen (can they do Owen in a game?) Stone Cold vs. The Rock, etc. Michaels vs. Razor Ramone.

They're cheesy setups, but ... I like them for what they were.

More rivalries will be added via DLC.

Except there has never been a good Sweet Chin Music in any of the AKI, or Yukes games. FPR is the only one that has that one down perfect.

Corner special SCM from HCTP was great. They even had another variation of it where he didn't do the dance after. The way it connects and how it's sold is perfect. You really feel the impact compared to that poverty SCM from 12-14

If Yukes would have kept the same gameplay and mechanics from HCTP as a base and never took out features from years past, than this series would be godly at this point. We would have back stage fighting, titantron climbing, 3 stages of blood, a nice double KO feature, sleeper hold system, fighting in the crowd, weight detection.........

It's alright, but the dancing at the end hurts it. The perfect SCM has to be the kick, flat back bump, and then the pin. FPR doesn't get it down perfect, but at least it gets the kick, and selling of it just right(in 2D cartoony form though).

Quick question: Is anyone planning on making a thread for the roster reveal tomorrow? I would, but that feels biased ;) All the information is currently living on our forums.

That pretty much sums up the Rock in 2014. I honestly cant' believe something as small as how high he jumps really matters in a wrestling game?

Better yet, compare the No Mercy "Mac Elbow" with the real life one. Same with the "Mac Stunner". There is a gif lining them up.

Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain needs to be brought up when talked about the best Wresting games ever made.

After it, it was a straight decline in each & ever wrestling game to date.

He has a bunch of character specific moves as well, all of them with Hollywood mannerisms attached. A lot of people have really specific movesets in HCTP actually.

And that's one I the many reasons why I loved it. Incredible attention to detail.

Takers sit up
Kane/Takers no sell to punches
Hogan actually Hulked Up
Jerichos cocky mannerisms
Stone Colds flipping the bird before a stunner animation

I can go on. HCTP felt super authentic with all the special character animations

I know he was scrapped from the game but HCTP had some great Ultimate Warrior animations in the CAW.

I remember Austin had this unique stomping attack. At some point there were two versions, a generic one and Austin's one. And then of course, at some point they got rid of Austin's version and left in the generic one. Pretty sure it was 2011 where the homogenization really set in, with a huge number of moves being removed in favour of piss-poor mo-capped ones. The animations being insanely lazy at that point. Triple H used to have this move where he leaned into the ropes, then did a kneedrop, and it was incredibly well animated. Then they replaced it with him just jumping and hitting the knee, with no flow whatsoever, and no little details to resemble his real movements.

When the fuck does Stone Cold ever hit a Stunner like? That can't possibly have been done by one of the wrestlers they hire for mocap. That has to be one of the animators, or a local actor they hired for that day.

Maybe it was Tommy Dreamer, who also happened to do the godawful entrance animation they've used for him since 2006.

Is Brian Williams still in charge of the mo-capping or is he gone like other former THQ employees that were brought on with WWE 2K14?

Man, I'm so nostalgic for HCTP animations (and HCTP in general). Every move was so...crunchy. Not sure how to describe it.

Lack of impact and ferocity, the guys doing the mocapping imitating moves done by others aren't going to hit them very hard at the risk if injury so they're loose compared to how stiff Yuke's use to be able to make moves because there were none of those concerns.

I love HCTP but it's story mode was terrible.

Despite how non-nonsensical it could be it's still better than any Smackdown game before it and for the most part after when they started relying on voice overs.
Somehow the mocap in the story cut scenes are even worse than in the game proper. Most of that shit looks AWFUL.

IIRC those were done by just someone at THQ in the mo-cap suit, probably a janitor... Maybe Brian Williams since he was in charge of the mo-capping for the few iterations.

I miss the ridiculously massive backstage map that one of the earlier PS1 smackdowns had, where you could go into the interview area, into the stadium's lobby, into the boiler room, up the escalator into Vince's office, or an adjacent hotal suite, outside into the streets, into a local bar, or into the car park and all that good stuff. It was great running backstage from the ring and fucking around with friends in a no rules tag team match, so much shit to throw people into and interact with too.

I wish they'd bring that back, the games haven't been as enjoyable since.

HCTP had some hilariously absurd backstage stuff, like grabbing people by the throat while riding Undertaker's bike. And this.

Now that's what I'm talking about! I got a copy of one of the PS3/360 Smackdowns on the cheap and when I went to check the backstage options it had one of two shitty little arenas that you couldn't even travel back and forth to, unlike the PS2 version you just posted, and Smackdown 2 on PS1.

Linda's selling was 100% worse than Vince's. Vince's looks like it broke his neck. Donald Trump's was also horrible.

That was all due to the people taking the stunner, though. Austin never looked like he had arthritis in his ass and was trying to avoid landing too hard on it.

Backstage triple threat tag team matches were just too fucking good. Utter chaos with guys riding around on bikes, getting hit by steam pipes, etc. Of course they had to take out the most fun matches in the recent games.

I actually really love that Stunner on Vince. In fact I love every one of them before everybody started copying The Rock's ridicules Stunner bump. Fun bump though, but still ridicules.

This is certainly what Vince wanted to do but failed. Slaughter also failed at his own game because he didn't have to act like a baby, the stunner is basically a "suspension of disbelief" facebuster ddt, you have to sell being dead, not being in pain. In other words, Stephanie was better at selling it than the Rock flipping around the ring like a crack addict.

Will 2k15 even have different animations for walking where it's appropriate? I think all of their games between 2002 and 2006 had that as a feature. Big Show said in that stupid GameSpot interview that everyone moves differently in this game but I don't think he would actually know that.

To everyone in this topic begging for a new version of No Mercy, I'm begging you to wise up and to check out Virtua Pro Wrestling 2 to see what the AKI engine is REALLY all about.

I played the hell out of No Mercy back in the day but a lot always bothered me about it, the poor AI, the slowdown in 4 player mode, the massive limits in CAW, etc.

So back in 2001, discovering the existence of and subsequently importing VPW2 was an absolute revelation and I never played No Mercy again. Amazing AI, no slowdown, multiple fighting styles, amazing CAW with programable A.I, etc, etc, etc.

NO ONE should be eulogising No Mercy as the archetype of wrestling games - in many aspects it wasn't even as good as WM2000.

For the love of all things holy, if you're going to eulogise the AKI engine, at least use the best game in the series as the example. VPW2 was the absolute pinacle of the series - that is what should be aspired to, No Mercy shouldn't even be mentioned.
