I have a Royal Rumble dream. Pete Rose as the surprise entry and he eliminates Kane with Bryan's help. It's all a lead up to Kane and Gobbledy Gooker (Team Kane Fried Chicken) vs Bryan and Rose (Team Team Sports Team) at the Wrestlemania Pre-Show.

Which is why ECW One Night Stand with Cena vs RVD is my favourite Cena match. Crowd yells he just does the same stuff every time, then yell that he still sucks when he tries anything else, because it does.

link?

"you want me at the garden? you want me at the rumble?" hhh-cactus is the best build up to a rumble ppv ever.

the actual rumble was one of the worst, but hhh-cactus was great. Should have been a mania match

Cactus brought out the best in HHH. Back when he was still hungry, and not fat.

Lets be honest here, Mick Foley makes everyone look good.

That guy could make Rosa Mendes look like the best women's wrestler in the world if he wanted to.

I wouldn't go that far, there was a huge amount of match quality decline as he embraced "mick foley" - maybe I just found Cactus and Mankind in the beginning much more interesting, but I couldn't stand Mick Foley-era Mick Foley. Once he adopted the car crash music, I really didnt like it - but I know I'm in the minority.

this This THIS!!!

Mick as Mick has always been kind of dull and I do think the match quality took a hit to boot.

Nah, the match quality started to go down because he was broken down by that point. Even though he never acted like it, you can tell now that he must have been in quite some pain by 2000.

Hell, nowadays he can barely make it down the ramp, you can't tell me that by early 2000 he was already hurting pretty bad.

Oh I'm sure that's also a huge part of it. It's just so jarring when you go back and see him put on incredible actual matches (not just spots) - I always am surprised when people think he'll return for one more match - it's pretty obvious his body is just shattered and can't do even just one more match. Poor feller.

That Hammerstein ECW crowd had Cena shook. 30+ minutes and they gave no quarter.

Second best moment of that PPV was the "AN-GLE'S GONNA KILL YOUUUU" chant to Randy Orton.

Yeah, he really should have retired from in-ring competition after the rumble

But it seems everyone (except hbk so far at least) has to have "one more match".

or fifty

That was a hell of a crowd, but Cena wasn't shaken - he knew what he was walking into, and he played his part perfectly. He's capable goddammit, capable of being booked differently! WWE knew it! Cena knew it!

But who will grant all the wishes when John Cena stops making Call of Duty jokes?!

I recall reading that that was the one time Cena admitted the venomous crowd reaction bothered him, because it went far beyond the usual "cena sucks lulz" chant.

The potential payoff for it has to be as much as he is currently doing on the positive end. If nWo wasn't going to go absolutely bananas, Hogan wouldn't have done his turn. At that point it was winding down, if memory serves, so it was a good transitional spot.

That's good if so! And that crowd is one of a kind, good stuff.

You know this. We know this. WWE doesn't have the balls.

If only they had strong competition again to force them to think out-of-the-box more.

It's why I'm as excited to go to the RAW post-WM as I am to go WM itself.

Crowd is going to bring the heat. If Cena wins the belt and/or beats The Rock, oh man.

Yeah that's gonna be great, post-mania Raws are amazing. Last year's with the YES YES YES was unreal.

Probably discussed in the thread, but what's the metric for winning the Rumble, but not winning the title at Mania?

A lot more than 2 people have done it.
Cena in 08
Orton in 09
Edge in 10
Del Rio in 11

Cesaro is going to win the Royal Rumble!
Wade Barrett is going to win the Royal Rumble!
Dolph Ziggler is going to win the Royal Rumble!
Khali is going to win the Royal Rumble!
Titus O'Neil is going to win the Royal Rumble!
Daniel Bryan is going to win the Royal Rumble!
...

JOHN CENER is going to win the Royal Rumble! probably

I'd love it if crowds were always like that. A lot of people don't realise just how important a crowd can be, and they have the power to make or break a match. That was the best crowd I've ever seen in WWE.

Its one of the major things that keeps me from getting interested in wrestling in the post attitude era. Attitude era crowds normally brought it. Seeing the thousands of flashbulbs go off for peoples' finishers was magic. ECW too. ECW crowds are a large part of why those shows are great to watch. CM Punk was up there for a brief moment, and it was glorious.

I do think crowds are more passive these days, but there are a few other factors as well. Events are held in larger arenas, and while that means more people, it also means better acoustics so the crowd isn't nearly as loud. Not to mention everyone looks spaced out. Also, flash photography isn't as prominent due to advances in technology. Now when someone does a big move, instead of a myriad of flashes lighting up the arena, people pull out their iPhones.

I do feel like people have no idea what to do when they go to a wrestling show. You aren't supposed to passively watch the show, you are PART of it. Cheer the good guys, boo the bad guys, chant things. Maybe people are just too embarassed to do it or whatever, but its what a wrestling audience needs to be.
