Gameplay Features

4 different wrestler classes. Each class confers a unique movement style and grapple/attack preference.
Weight detection system considers the size and stature of a wrestler when determining the outcome of any wrestler-versus-wrestler interaction (attack reactions, lift success rate, etc).
Limb damage system: damage sustained by each limb is tracked throughout a match. Limbs which have sustained severe damage become more vulnerable to submission holds.
Heat meter: tracks how favorably the crowd is responding to each wrestler. The greater the heat, the more momentum a wrestler has. Maximum heat allows a wrestler to pull off a finishing move.

I need a developer before I start getting excited. Any mention of Yukes will destroy the hope I have. However this defend your belt online and increase it's prestige sounds cool. You'd only need to win one match for your belt to have more prestige than the champs in TNA/WWE.

First person to bitch about Edge not having his taped wrists should get banned.

Heat meter: tracks how favorably the crowd is responding to each wrestler. The greater the heat, the more momentum a wrestler has. Maximum heat allows a wrestler to pull off a finishing move.

Applicable only to Ric Flair. All others will be subjected to the "Hunter" metter, which makes it more difficult to pin the owners son-in-law as they get over.

The developer is Studio Gigante of Tao Feng fame.

Compare to Anchor's Raw 1:

and the released-in-pre-Alpha-state Raw 2 (FUCK YOU THQ)

Sounds good AND sounds like online play modes done right unlike the online play-lite of Smackdown vs. Raw.

John Cena, military press slamming JBL.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

There was an interview with John Tobias, formerly of the MK team, and he said that supposedly the gameplay will be very deep and there would be a new counter system where every move has a counter and some moves will have different ways to be countered. It was in an Xbox magazine if I'm not mistaken.

So I guess we'll see, but so far, color me not impresed.

Why...are we even bothering anymore? The slim chance of a hope of a glimmer of a sliver of DREAM of a good wrestling game/sim this gen?

Sigh.

Ummm...why is everthing dark? Looks like Nitro. I skipped on getting a PS2 and Raw vs. Smackdown waiting for some info on this. If they put in everything they promise AND add some online feds, I'll bite.

i hope they rip off AKI's system. I have a bad feeling it will be like the old genesis wrestlemani arcade game.
Which arcade game? The one where you have to beat up (zombie) Andre the Giant, the one with (zombie) Legion of Doom, or the one where bats fly out of undertaker and pies fly out of Yokuzuna when they get hit?

Yukes not involved? AWESOME!

I fucking hate those guys. I hate everything about there wresling system. the animation of the strikes are so fucking retarded. The way their animation cuts, the lack of proper damage when taking hits from chairs, being put through tables and their fucked up apron moves. No wreslting game has been able to recreate the shear joy of pullin off a top rope manouver as succesfully as AKI.

Is it too much to ask these devs to simply recreate AKI's wrestling mechanics? Strong grapple and strong strike by holding down the action for longer please! Being able to counter rapples and strikes by tapping L or R, being able to switch opponants on the fly, having the wrestlers really sell the moves, wonderful smooth animation.

sigh

At least they, you know, have made wrestling games in the past. And not, you know, crappy fighting games. And no, you cannot use backwards logic here. Aki may have managed to make a good fighting game in Def Jam, but there is no way they can go from Tao Feng to a quality wrestling title...especially looking like that.

I haven't played a good wrestling game since Wrestlemania 2000 on N64. Is this the AKI game everyone keeps on talking about? The gameplay was great.

I wouldn't mind trying another one out, but like others said, I dislike Yuke's Smackdown games gameplay. Hopefully this one is good....

i have more faith with Tae Fang guys then Yukes. At least i know theres a slight chance it may turn out to be good or at least different, considering its their first wrestling game. If it were Yukes, i would not give this title a chance, they will simply use thier smackdown gameplay, I cant stand those game, or any other wrestling game based on it.

Tao Feng is garbage.

Yeah but so was Way of the Warrior. And then Naughty Dog came out with Crash which is significantly better.

Well said, but ND jumped genre's and started from scratch... I'd be concerned Gigante might try to reuse some of the horrible Tao Feng code somewhere in their wrestling game.... BTW WotW had a kickass intro.

im genuinly interested with their version of wrestling. The thought of a wrestling game not being based on Yukes formula is, for me, somewhat exciting

At least. its the first time in a long time, im interested in a wrestling game. Any mention of Yukes then gameover for me. Dead end right there, i dont care for the game

I was bitching about Smackdown vs. Raw's online play from the minute I had the beta and people were like "Thats why it's a beta test! They want your input!" Then they release the game and Yukes/THQ did not fix ONE problem. There was like no reason to even have a beta test. It was almost TOO obvious that online play was just thrown in to add some extra sales.

One that doesn't involve modding your system. :P

It doesn't necessarily...you could always go the hd loader route. Then again, you're talk at least $70 for the disc and a spare hd and that's before the cost of the game.

Either way, I highly recommend that anyone who likes wrestling games and doesn't need people like Randy Orton and JBL should check it out. It's my favorite wrestling game of all time next to the first two and VPW2.

But I thought with the HDLoader for imports you still had to use a slide key which means you still have to take the door of the PS2 off....

You can put the hd you want to use in your computer temporarily and use a program (I used HDL Dump) to rip the game from your DVD-ROM drive. Then, you can just load it with the regular HD Loader disc.
