I've put a big dent in the gears of war franchise, I have played judgement and 1 through 4 now.

The franchise is focused on E-Day now, a prequel and the series is in a very dark spot now with questions like why am I Marcus' son? Why am I a girl in Gears 5? There's problems with the story, according to Gears of War loyalists, some gears fans want to preserve the franchise. There's the different developer crowd, that understands how different the game is without it's original creator that therefore it's a bad game. There's the book crowd, that always criticizes everything. And to that I say there will always be a percentage of people who don't like the sequels, and most people like me probably just want to understand the story, the interesting dynamics like in Gears 4 with the ugly locust, hivemind situation, where it's difficult to pinpoint who the enemy is, is the enemy the robots who think I'm a rebel, or is the enemy these crystalized monsters who absorb humans to create new forms of themselves.

Unreal Engine 4, profoundly changes how Gears of War looks and plays.

At one point the Xbox brand depended on Gears of War to create sales, 360 era Gears made trouble for PS3 who put out shooter after shooter that didn't faze Gears of War and ended in failure (Resistance, Killzone, Socom) and yet we're waiting around for the next Gears of War game unlike those Sony exclusive shooters.

Open world games are really common today, with distractions, looting and it's what people wanted, wanting to see big open plains where you can travel too. The problem with that is the time frame, there's a big difference between a game like Gears of War 4 that requires 10 hours to beat the campaign. And you say so what? I get 40 hours with Assassins Creed. That 40 hours is still a little bit of wasted time.

I think big games like Assassins Creed are fun, discovering the joy of new areas, the fresh combat, but you have to prioritize your time with those games. Gears of War 4 offers a fresh, game that reawakened the joy of gaming in me. Things like spending time on the turret, the chainsaw, all the weapons, the enemy variety.

84 seems fair.

The love for Gears is for campaign, multiplayer and horde. This is understood in Gears communities, call of duty eventually got this three tier game mode treatment.

Fighting off swarms of enemies in horde for survival round after round is great.

Multiplayer is absolutely action packed, the ranking system, original maps, natural third person gameplay.

This is a game I of course enjoyed, assuming others have played this game what do you think of Gears of War 4 and the willingness to move on from original characters, and story.

GoW4 is my favorite gameplay wise from the franchise. I have about ~500hours in the horde mode with the boys.
The gameplay resonates with fluidity and smoothness does it not? Many who buy gears is generally for horde mode and that's great they incorporated horde mode aspects into the campaign. Are you hyped for Gears E-Day? It's interesting it's day 1 game pass and that you can't preorder it yet.

I never liked cyborgs. There's just too many different enemies now in the series, we got locust, lambent and the weird cyborg felt like they tried to compensate quality with quantity.

And I never liked the change in art direction in the series, from a kind of horror game to a bold 3rd person testosterone brofist shooter. Wish they'd go back to the atmosphere of Gears 1 with their next game.
