On another board, a Republican linked me to this site, saying:
So, I read the observations of the last four years. They praised him -- yet certain things seemed tongue-in-cheek and didn't add up, such as:
Then I checked the Fox News section:
I checked the About:
I've never heard of the site before, but I suspect it's pretty popular. At any rate, those who haven't checked it out before should. It's a fun read. The fact that they tricked a hardcore Republican into thinking it was actually pro-Bush says volumes, I think.
Btw, I wasn't linked to the front page where they actually mention (so briefly) that the site is satire. Obviously if I had seen that to begin with, it wouldn't have been such a revelation. But the fact that I was told it was pro-Bush and they walk such a fine line made it a pretty crazy read.
On another board, a Republican linked me to this site, saying:
And yes, I realize it is pro-Bush. I know. Scary thought. But there are sources listed that aren't pro-Bush and this is the best/least unbiased source I could find. So please don't give me that shit that Bush didn't do anything. Educate yourself. He wouldn't have been re-elected if he had done nothing. Read the website. It lists good things Bush has done as well as bad things.
So, I read the observations of the last four years. They praised him -- yet certain things seemed tongue-in-cheek and didn't add up, such as:
+The Bush Administration has reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation on several other occasions as well.
Yet, the Republican had genuinely said it was pro-Bush.In May 2002, President Bush withdrew the United States from the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC has been signed by 140 countries to prosecute war crimes and genocide cases that individual nations refuse to address. While this withdraw damaged U.S. ties to our European allies, Bush was forced to act in order to protect U.S. troops from possible prosecution.
President Bush also withdrew the United States from a protocol signed by 143 nations in 1972 to ban the production and possession of biological weapons. While this may encourage other nations to reconsider abandoning their chemical and biological weapons programs, President Bush took this principled stand to protect U.S. pharmaceutical companies from inspection.
After toppling the oppressive Taliban regime in Afghanistan, the United States constructed Camp X-Ray in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to house prisoners from Afghanistan and other terrorist suspects. To better fight terrorism, President Bush ignored the highly respected international rules set forth by the Geneva Convention on the handling of prisoners of war. Instead, the Bush Administration labeled these prisoners as "unlawful combatants" in order to deny them protection against interrogation.
The Geneva Convention also provides for prisoners of war to be returned to their countries at the end of hostilities, unless convicted of war crimes. By sidestepping these rules, President Bush may keep these prisoners detained indefinitely to better protect our freedom.
Then I checked the Fox News section:
....uhh wha?The same polls also asked the respondents where they get their news. The results showed that Americans who rely on Fox News as their primary news source were more likely than all other Americans to hold incorrect beliefs about the war (as compared to Americans who rely on other news sources such as newspapers, the internet, and other television news outlets).
While loyal consumers of Fox News might have more misperceptions about the war in Iraq than everyone else, it is important to realize the meaning of this and other studies conducted by the PIPA through March of 2004. Not only have these incorrect beliefs about the war persisted, but Americans holding these misperceptions are more likely than others to support the war and President Bush.
The conclusion must be, therefore, that through its unbiased coverage of the War on Terror and the war in Iraq, Fox News has been and continues to be instrumental in increasing public support for war and President Bush.
This is fair and balanced. This is the kind of integrity we need in journalism, and the kind of reporting we need in America.
I checked the About:
