Finally, I can hear someone's voice tonight! Just ditch everything but the piano for the rest of the show, please.

Melanie is like a charming Syesha.

NOTE TO JUDGES: Quit the fucking genre bickering. No one cares.

So wrong, she's the 2nd or 3rd best contestant on there. Along with being cute she's got huge stage presence and a better overall voice than the thread favorite Drew (sorry), who gets by on simple aw shucks cuteness and singing quiet little lullabies with one trick that gets old quicker than Andrew Garcia (Idol) and his shtick. Might hate the fact that she's cute but that isn't a problem to me. Not every young girl acts like a slut or a star struck hick.

And, considering how vocally weak the other contestants are, I fully expect her to be there til the end.

I do think Drew needs to switch it up a bit, but she's great at what she does. She's singing ballads better than the big voice divas on the show.

My problem with Rachel's cuteness is that its constantly evoked to mask the fact that she's not vocally on par with the other contestants. Her vocals are just amateur - big does not equal good. If any other contestant on the show sang like Rachel they would be panned.

EDIT:

Wannabe Jordin Sparks was vocally good, again. But she's boring as all get out - and the little soul breakdown at the end didn't come off as genuine. She was in her head the whole time and you could tell that she was thinking "Ok, and here's where I get loud and growl a little bit...yeah, exactly like that."

Again, I agree with Nicole (damn, that's twice now). There was no connection.

Melanie is so PRETTY ^_^

Melanie: B+
Gorgeous voice, as always....but what I'm noticing more and more is that her voice doesn't have any grit or roughness to it, especially when the song becomes more wordy. As the song went on, her lower register sounded less like a singing voice and more like a talking voice. She can do better.

Really Nicole? Really...

Good performance and the most "Rock" performance thus far. But I dunno...I was expecting him to go bigger.

Leona recorded a cover of this song that was never released. This mediocrity only re-opens the wounds of not being able to hear it.

SIT DOWN NICOLE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU

Nicole during that performance.

JOSH SLAYED. Entertaining, good vocals, very rockish. Clearly so beyond the rest of the flop contestants.

That was an odd choice. There's dozens of better Foo Fighter songs.

The whole night has been that way, Meatloaf and they chose the song Celine Dion sung, REM and they chose Everybody Hurts

Ughhhhh wtf with the song choices

Thought he was going to do Run DMC's "Rock This Way".

But yeah, he's really talented.

For a person his age, I'm surprised that he used Common's "I Use to Love H.E.R." to influence his lyrics (or at least that's what it seemed like he did to me).

I might have tolerated that Astro performance. It's so obvious the producers are pimping him over the rest of the contestants though.

I haven't been watching the show outside of Astro but it does seem that way.

He is really good though and breaks the mold from the regular TV contest singing acts.

Now this is a good song choice. Who doesn't love the Outfield? Jerry Sandusky, that's who.

Hey let's take good pop songs and ruin the melodies.

Ugh Astro. It's rock week, not rap week. Can he sing? I'm serious: can.he.sing?

It's obvious that he can't.

He was definitely good but Run-DMC's "Rock This Way" should have been his song choice for this week imo.

Broadway week shows up and he's going to Rap again?

More than likely.

He'll probably rap to a remix of a Broadway instrumental if they will have a Broadway week.

Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" comes to mind.

LaKoda Rayne: C+
Well, at least they tried to stand out with fun, upbeat performance. They definitely looked like they enjoyed it. As far as the song went....I'm never thrilled with their harmonies because I can pick out each voice because I don't think they ever blend well. As for the actual performance, it felt a little TOO karaoke for me. Lots of gimmicky choreography, lots of cheesy playfulness....but oh well. They know that this is probably their last week so they're trying to live it up. Can't hate them too much for that. Or can we....

I let out a hearty guffaw when those stupid backup dancers took their places on the podiums. What the hell was that supposed to be?

I agree with Simon that the performance kinda went downhill after they got off the boxes. Before that, they were slaying to be honest. The visuals, their vocals, their groupness, everything had good synergy, but then that crumbled apart. The camera even lost them for about 5 seconds.

They deserve to stay for another week though.

Eh, agree with Simon, the performance was all over the place and desperate. Just like the girls themselves.

Groups in general have just been a poor effort on the show's part. The producers could really learn something from The Sing Off in that regard. Next season get groups that are organized and trained to sing together. Groups that harmonize and blend, and have them sing arrangements that only groups with various vocal parts can do justice.

Because America is over the hastily thrown together group of solo artists who have no chemistry.

I've been defending Lakoda Rayne the last few weeks, but this was a hot mess. Didn't like the song choice, didn't like the dancing, thought their vocals were rough. Right now I'd stick them at the bottom with Stacy. Well, I'd kick Astro off first, but I realize that's not gonna happen.

Why not a Heart song, or Blondie?

Edit: or the Bangles.

One Direction would slay all the groups on this season.
