X360 is calling me...

I like to wait until a year after everything is out before getting a new system, so I'm not sure why I'm even bothing to think about this, but I must say the X360 is starting to look nice to me for the following reasons:

1) I love the controller, it looks wonderful. Seeing differently angled shots of it, I think it should grip very nicely. They also ditched the things I don't like about the XB controller.
2) I'm starting to change how I play games. I liked a lot of franchises on PS2, but when most the bigger games end with "4" it gets tiresome. I played KOTOR2 with a friend and it was refreshing, since I went without XB this gen maybe the obvious difference that comes with an american-originating system will be nice for the next.
3) That said, there are some japanese games that look SWEET. Sepcifically, Dead Rising and Ninety-Nine Nights.
4) Maybe I'm wrong on this, but the video bandwith will be nice. Devs are usually mindful of the geometry they're pulling, but they like to throw in pretty effects even when they cause slowdown, this should help prevent that.
5) I like how most XB games use save states, and I think it will be a more common trend on X360.

The only thing that worries me is the potential abuses of microtransactions, also I want to see what Revolution is going to do. But yeah, right now I'm excited about X360, it looks cool.

It's really not that difficult of a decision. Just open your wallet, spread your cheeks and accept MS in your life. I did four years ago, and i've never been happier.

They all look decidedly meh to me at this point.

I haven't seen anything of Revolution, so I can't be hyped for that as much as I'd like to be.

Nearly all of the demos for X360 and PS3 at E3 used camera angles and sequences that do not lend themselves to gameplay so in all honesty I can't actually say I know what a game on one or the other looks like. The purpose of getting Square to do a technical demo is either to demonstrate the power of PS3 for the benefit of those in an industry packed crowd who somehow don't already know... - OR - it's to hype people up about absolutely nothing. The footage for Killzone and Gears of War more resembled movie trailers than actual games. What the fuck is the point? WE MIGHT AS WELL MAKE E3 A CONSUMER SHOW ALREADY. All it does is pander to them through the media anyway. It pisses me off.

I think Xbox 360 had a few playable games actually.. wallguy n' that. I respect them for that. I can't wait to pay microtransactions...woohoo. Oh and the HD era thing stinks of buzzword rubbish. I don't mind them saying games will look better.. but for some reason HD makes them play better? It has nothing to do with the interface. It's a total nonsense.

You can tell the idea on the parts of these manufacturers to use certain words like this over and over again came out of the minutes of a meeting rather than from the creative concious of anyone who actually gives a damn about games. It's totally transparent bullshit.

I'm getting all three. I know this already. Xbox Live was excellent, and MS got some good exclusives. Sony got even more - and there are some games that Sony simply aren't gonna let go next gen, so I'm gonna have to buy a PS3 eventually. And I'm a lifelong Nintendo fan. To me, Nintendo games are the best exclusives there are.

*sigh* There goes £1000 at least.

Gears of War was being played...

I think the main reason why I'm going to buy an Xbox 360 at launch instead of waiting a little bit is because of all the multimedia functions. Not even thinking about games, the media center extender being able to play all the digital video/audio/photos from my PCs and the Xbox 360 being able to hook up to any mp3 player (including my PSP) is reason enough for me to buy. Plus I don't own a progressive scan dvd player yet. Also I'm really glad that the 360 comes with a 20GB hard drive cause now I can actually see myself downloading and putting media on the device like I do with my modded Xbox. I really see the Xbox 360 becoming the one main device in my living room that handles all of the entertainment. (Maybe not all, I'm also really interested in the PS3 and Revolution for games)

As far as games I've seen/played for the 360, Kameo and Gears of War both look great. Condemned, Need for Speed, PGR3, DOA4 and Full Auto all looking promising. I'm also hoping Saints Row and PDZero will be good games. I'm not blown away by the games lineup just yet, but the multimedia and Xbox Live functionality of the system have already sold me. Plus if the backwards compatibility is good it will be yet another Xbox 1 to add to my house. I'm not really that interested in Japanese games even though MS is making a big deal about all the new Japanese developers working on 360. Up until E3 I was really down on the system because I thought it wasn't going to be backwards compatible and it wasn't going to have a hard drive. If the price isn't crazy expensive then I'll definitely buy the system at launch. The CPU and GPU sound insanely powerful and the HDD and wireless controllers are not going to be cheap, so I'm a little worried about the price at launch. I certainly don't see myself buying a lot of games if the $60 pricetag is standard.
