X360 Splinter Cell 4 developed by Ubisoft Shanghai

I thought that was a pic of the Tomb Raider developer. There is no way that that's realtime.
i think it matches Snake from MGS4 on PS3 and that's real-time.

like i said, i hope.......

Just got the new game informer in, and I've been perusing the pics.

I can't say I'm overly impressed. the lighting looks good, but the models look rather simplistic. the problem is, I can't tell if they posted xbox, PC, or 360 images. the AR is 4:3 in some pics, 16:9 in others. The article talks about how sam's realtime model is so detailed, it is the same model used for cinematics. But I'm just not seeing that with some of the prison-screenshots they have.
They don't say whether its 360 or not. That sucks. How do the 16:9 shots look?

No that shits on snake. Just look at the hand and the skin texture.
yeah i know, the wrinkles on the thumb and the detail on the nail......... but i think Snake prolly has that too. gotta get a better view of his hand......

Well Snake's hands are covered by his suit, of course you're not going to see any wrinkles.

be easy, i think Snake looks great, if his hands are covered then i guess we can't compare. plus this cover could be a drawing or whatever, i'm just saying that if it's what Sam would look like in real-time, then that's crazy.

Haha Metal Gear Solid quality?

That frontpage model has some nice texture work and the the filter effect makes it look very realistic. However it has absolutely nothing on the Snake Model.

I wouldn't get my hopes up, the hair looks a bit wonky but facial detail is nothing like we've seen. I don't see that happening this gen unless late and definitely not in March.

What does that pic have to do with anything? We're talking about the cover.

lol, come on man, u know that's not from the xbox 360................. i think, or it better not be. lol

So is SC4 being built from the ground up for a nextgen console(Xbox 360) or is it an enhanced port like King Kong?

Well Snake's gloves are pretty damn detailed if that's anything.

PC/360 version being developed by a different team. No one knows.

Probably an enhanced port. But at least they'll have a few more months on final hardware. I still have almost zero faith in UBI Shanghai to get the job done.

I'm sure Splinter Cell 5 which is probably out in March 2007 will be built from the ground up when you have 360 and PS3 version.

i disagree with u about the face, i think snakes face looks as good as the cover. and i also think sams hair on that cover looks great, especially his beard & eyebrows.

basically if the 360 & ps3 are about even in the gfx dept., i could see that sam in the cover coming close to looking like that in real-time on the 360.

but yeah, if they could make this happen within the 360's lifetime, i would be happy with it graphically.

man, this is the first splinter cell that really excites me since the first. I'm glad they've gone in a very different direction.

When I mentioned the hair I meant the head hair. The facial hair does look amazing. As far as the face, the cover looks more realistic to me probably because its probably a human model. Sam looks great but I wouldn't mistake him for a real person like I did the guy on that cover.

From what I've heard... this is new code.... built from scratch on the 360. PC version is said to be based on loose 360 code but otherwise a new engine on the PC as well.

If any developer can make a game that looks like that splinter cell cover I'm going down to their offices unzipping all the developer's pants... nevermind.

man, you guys are crazy if you think Snake's face looks anywhere near that cover.

in fact, Snake's face is the biggest graphical complaint I have about the game (everything else wow's me).

I received my Game Informer today as well, scanned though the article quickly and found a big note of interest. This item gives me hope for the 360 version of Double Agent. Game Informer states Double Agent is in development by UBI Shanghai, who of course is doing the 360 version. UBI Montreal is taking what Shanghai is doing, and trying to port down what fits onto Xbox, PS2, and GC. So it does look like the 360 version is the definitive version of Double Agent while the PS2, GC, and Xbox version are stripped down ports. I'll give the example stated in the magazine. This is just one difference:

For example, the prison level in the 360 version features dozens of guards and convicts duking it out in a massive riot, and the size of the level is far bigger than any of the series has seen so far. The current gen machines are unable to create a scene so big and complicated, but they can suggest it. Rather than show the whole riot, players will hear it, see flams, and witness small pockets of conflict. While the story, areas, and art assets are shared across all the versions, the actual stages will vary due to necessity.

At the same time, the article states the current gen versions will sport some exclusive features. Ugh I hate when this happens. Anyway it says that since Xbox and PS2 can't have the same online ranking system as the 360, they get exclusive spy vs spy multiplayer. This isn't in the 360 version. Bullshit. I want this in the 360 version too.

The premise does sound great for the game. The Splinter Cell games seem to be aging like a fine wine, each one getting better than the last. Splinter Cell was OK, and Pandora Tommorrow was basically a mission pack. Chaos theory was very good with more open ended gameplay and now Double Agent is going another step.

Hmm looks like Double Agent is ripping off MGS4 already. :P

One mission is set in the middle of a full scale African civil war. Has two distinct AI groups battling each other with civilians caught in the middle. Sam isn't part of either side, but he can interfere with the battle how he sees fit if he wants or stay hidden. The whole mission takes place in broad daylight so you won't be able to hide in the shadows. Looks like you can choose to save civilians which will put directly in the middle of the battle or just try to stay out of it the best you can. Interesting.

I don't get it when people say Chaos Theory was more open-ended, I got to the boat mission and then got fed up just as I had the previous 2 games. Thank goodness for the multiplayer, though, only like 50 people play the PC version so I've already played everyone like 10 times.

I can name numerous amounts of games where two factions fight each other with you being in the middle of it.

Anyway, as usual this will be a game i'll buy purely for its multiplayer aspect. Spy vs Mercenary is the best multiplayer idea ever.

Now just hoping its still there :lol

Yeah, that sounds like Halo1 to me.

Chaos Theory is by far the best Splinter Cell, so it's a good thing Shanghai is making the next one.
Shanghai didn't make Chaos Theory, Montreal did. Shanghai made the piece of shit Pandora Tomorrow.

Actually-

Shanghai made the single player portion of Pandora Tommorow, Montreal made the multiplayer portion.

In summary:

The Shanghai studio is not very good.

Actually the multiplayer aspect is 100%' Annecy's work.

This is the exact opposite of what I would want. I would rather have Montreal make the game and Shanghai do the porting. Shanghai making the core game and gameplay means we might be looking at another pice of shit Pandora Tomorrow [single player].

This is terrible news.

OMG THAT HAS TO BE REALTIME LOOK AT THE HAIR!
It's a moot point because its an all playstation mag and splinter cell 4 is not coming to the ps3 and the ps2 version definitely doesn't look like that.

I hope not. We'll see though.

I would rather have Shanghai work on the core game for 360 and Montreal port it to current gen than Montreal work on the core game (current version) then have it Xbox 1.5 ized by Shanghai. I consider it the lesser of two evils. My preference would be Montreal on the 360 version and Shanghai porting current gen but I guess we wait until SC5 for this.

I can't wait for this game. I really due hope Ubisoft takes advantage of the 360 hardware, like the GI article mentions about the prison break. Improve the AI to react realisticly, real time destructable environments, and please change the animation of Sam changing his ammo.

Sams shocking new tale would have left us guessing at every turn if Ubisoft didnt tell us he's a double agent IN THE FUCKING TITLE OF THE GAME. idiots.

Also, sucks that Shanghai is making it, PT turned me off single player splinter cell completely, SC1 & 3 are about 100% better.

haha

I agree to both statements

Out of curiosity, why did people find Pandora's single-player to be so bad? I really liked it; even more than the first game. The levels had a lot more locational variety (Indonesian jungle, train, France, etc.), there were a lot more alternate routes through levels, and so on.
