X360 Tips and Tricks

Yeah I know, another Xbox 360 thread. Anyways, there are a few things about the 360 that took me awhile to find and I bet there are more hidden gems I have yet to discover so I wanted to start a thread to collect them. Apologies if its a repost, I tried searching.

Power-on to Dashboard
Everyone knows that hitting the eject button will take you to the dashboard, but I didn't know until tonight that if you hit the start button on the media remote the system will power on and take you directly to the media center extender even if a game is inserted. If you don't have your system set up as an extender you just have to hit back and you are on the media blade.

Default settings for games
This is probably obvious for a lot of people, but I didnt know about it at all. You can set default settings for games to use by genre. It is done by bringing up the guide and selecting your gamercard. Its listed under 'Game defaults.' I was getting sick of changing to cockpit view in PGR3.

Anyone else have any little things to share that may not be obvious to people at first glance?

Do not tilt your X360 while it is powered on
Doing so will give you a $60 coaster

Free Smashtv without paying for it
Download the demo to SmashTV. Play the game and when the stupid popup comes up telling you to buy the game, simply press start twice and you'll be able to play the rest of the game for free. Give the FU to microtransactions

Awesome, I've actually been wondering if there was a way to do this for quite a while now. Thanks.

Anyway, only tip I can think of, for those who haven't figured it out already, is to change themes, you have to go to the Xbox Guide, and then personal settings. That's the only thing I couldn't figure out, until I saw another post on here about it.

This is great stuff... but I don't like the "autoaim" option. Some games are made to be played with Autoaim on (with an option to turn it off), while others are designed to be played with it off (with an option to turn it on if you suck).

I like seeing what the developers default is, and sticking with it as far as autoaim goes in almost all games that support it. With this option, it's overridden, and you don't have any idea what the developer intended.

Do you get to keep playing SmashTV afterwards or must you do the "trick" everytime?

Anytime you want to play the game, you do the trick.

You only get one popup. It happens 3 or 4 rooms into the first level. At this point, just press start twice, and you can continue to play the rest of the game without any more hassles.

Works for single player and co-op. No live functionality is enabled, however.

Speevy: No. Not to my knowledge. When I found the bug, I immedietly tried it in the other games available. It looks like it *might* work in Gauntlet, but you'd need insane reaction time to get it to work.
