XBL: Games with Gold

Is this good? I haven't heard of it.

Finished Max today so I'll try it.

I agree with backflip, it's fantastic. Great Metroidvania style game with a fun combo system and some truly challenging/rewarding mechanics. Definitely looking forward to playing it again with the new content.

New games announced!

The titles that will be available as part of Microsoft's Games with Gold initiative for July have been revealed a little earlier than usual in the monthly change cycle. Until Monday, Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV will remain available for free on the Xbox 360.

On July 1st, the aforementioned games will return to full price with Gotham City Impostors becoming free from that date through July 15th. BattleBlock Theater will replace Gotham City Imposters as the free game on July 16th, right through to July 31st inclusive.

Meanwhile, Xbox One gamers can download Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Xbox One) for free from July 2nd onwards, after Halo: Spartan Assault (Xbox One) reverts to its usual price on June 30th. As an added bonus, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (Xbox One) will also continue to be available free for another month as part of the Xbox One promotion.

I was so sure it'd be LocoCycle. Gaucamelee is great though; a game I'd like to try but probably wouldn't ever pay for.

I'm OK with one XB1 GwG per month I guess, especially if it's going to be a game we're guaranteed not to have (on the XB1 at least). But I feel like Microsoft's messaging about this has been unclear, which is disappointing.

Yeah, I agree. Even though it is in the fine print, they should've outright made it clear that it's one new game per month. And while Guacamelee is nice (and I would've bought it anyway), it would be even better if the one game per month was a retail game, not a downloadable one.

I actually think that the new indie game is a smart move.

I've been sitting on the sidelines on several titles (STF, Child of light, Rayman Legends) because I don't know if they will go free and I don't really have time to play them at the moment anyway.

I would welcome the move for sure.

Can you use xbox.com to get Guacamelee for XB1 when it goes free if you don't own the system yet? I plan on getting one but not right now

The speculation is that yes, that would work.

The earliest we will have real world proof would be next month when someone could theoretically purchase an Xbox One try and download Halo: Spartan Assault and see if it works.

So is it true that the X1 games from this program work the same way as PS+?
Basically that they are a subscription active until your Gold runs out.

I don't know if it's misinformation or if i'm being lied to.

This is correct for X1 games.

For 360 games, from what I read on here, the architecture was never set up for the above, so the 360 games are yours to keep on your xbox/account

Only a few more days to get SFIV, but I don't have a sub and apparently I can't get a free one month trial anymore. This sucks. Really wanted to have it before I move to California next week. :(

Free month trials don't work anymore?

Anyways, I'm very excited about Guacamelee. Something I've always been interested in but wouldn't have purchased.

I used a one month sub and I downloaded all three games. Maybe you're doing something wrong.

Did you tried via dasboard?

All I see on the dashboard is an option for 1 month @ $9.99, 3 @ $24.99, and 12 @ $59.99. No free trial at all.

Have a CC? Create a new account on Xbox.com and download it to your console. It should give you an option for a month trial during signup.

Won't that link the game to that account though? I mean, I suppose I could do it but I've played SSFIV on my current account before and would've liked to use it again.

That's a horrible selection for the 360 games unless I'm missing something.

Nope, it's pretty disappointing to get two XBLA titles instead of one retail title and one XBLA.

And I'd like to see parity with PS+, in terms of giving us two new gen games per month instead of one.

I've been wanting to play both but have held off, so I'm happy about the choices. Heard good things about Battleblock and Gotham might be a fun multiplayer, especially if a lot of people download it. Better than an older retail title I've already played.

It does work.

I had set up max and spartan assault for my brother in law a few days before he got his One. "Purchased" them on the website and when he set up his one, they were available to install.

The license will be tied to the console, so your primary would be able to access it.

Edit: Misunderstood second part of your post

Thanks for letting me know that this is how it worked. Made a new account, got a trial, and downloaded SSFIV:AE. My main gamertag is able to use it, and with the same save data as before as well.

I have one more question though: If I buy the Ultra upgrade on the account that I created today (since it's the one that AE is licensed to), will that cause any accessibility issues for my main profile?

I'm not sure how the Ultra upgrade would work out. I would assume you could do it through your main profile, but I'm not certain. Maybe someone how knows will chime in.

I would have preferred a retail title as well but I don't really mind all that much because I already have a lot of stuff to play and these things accumulate fast.

Don't really care that much about the parity thing either for the above reasons, besides not even PS+ has a winning month every time.

With the XB1 bonus games, can any profile on the machine play them? I know you can with 360, just wondering if they changed it

Microsoft has mentioned whether you keep the games in several ways, not the least of which is they posted it on the X1 dashboard. At some point I think people have trouble merging what is with what they want. I still remember having to find the small print when Plus started the system and it most definitely wasn't on the XMB.

X360 games are yours for as long as you own the system.
XO games are yours as long as you are a Gold Subscriber.

In this way it is both the opposite and exactly like PS+ in ownership.
I'm eager to play Guacamelee. I never got around to buying the Behemoth's Battle Block. I'm curious about whether Gotham City Imposters is any fun.

I'm not having any issues withs this month's titles but I am concerned about the lack of space I have on my X360 and the fact I can't simply add my own HDD. Once again, nothing like and exactly like PS+.

It adds it to your download history on Xbox.com , so it definitely will work.
