XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

Dunno how I'm going to spend 3,200pts this month, as nothing this week or next week in the sales really interests me (I've got all the stuff I want!)

I'm thinking of getting a few games that have never been on sale, so with the 800 back they'll cost 600pts each instead of 800pts. Not the best discounts but for stuff that's never going to go on sale, could be worth doing. At the moment, my eyes are on Exit 2, Shotest Shogi, Omega Five, and... something else. What should I really be getting which hasn't ever been reduced?

Not interested in Monaco?

And since you're getting one shoot-em-up perhaps grab Trouble Witches Neo? I'm aware it's gone on sale before but it doesn't seem overly common. Not sure what you don't own at this point.

C'mon! I own all of the deals this week. I guess it's Monaco, Poker Night 2 and Twisted Pixel Bundle for the Xbox rewards program. I own two of the TP games but I would still come out on top.

Edit - Wait, no. I already bought I Am Alive so I should be able to get Monaco and Poker Night 2 and be good.

Edit: The Return - My math is awesome. I still need to buy all three. Fuck MS points in the Allard.

Sort of interested in Monaco, but want to read a few reviews first.

I've got TWN already, when it was on sale way back when. I've been too scared to play it because of achievement OCD though. I probably own about half the XBLA catalogue tbh, it's relatively obscure stuff I'm looking for I guess :lol

Just played through Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team. It's a Gauntlet-style arcadey hack and slash meets twin stick shooter. It's an OK way to pass time. That's about all I can say about it. Nothing about is is really bad (although the checkpointing system is kind of crummy) but there's also not really anything great. Level designers are pretty much long straight slogs, there's only five levels, all five are way too long, there's only really one cool or original fight, not much really happens, weapons don't really feel all that great, not a ton of enemy variety. I mean, again, I don't regret killing time, but if I had something else to play on XBLA right now I wouldn't have played it.

Side note: The Warhammer franchise is so stupid. I guess I'm never spent time with it before now and I didn't realize how inane it is. Space marines with paladin swords and rocket launchers fighting space orks in a high fantasy setting with a pseudo-religious space emperor. The worst part about this game was the stupid Warhammer universe jargon. You have to go in a teleporter. In the Warhammer universe, Orks call them "teleportas". You're on a Kroozer space ship. The bad guy is called Warboss. Orks with cleavers are called Choppa Boys. Orks with guns are called Shoota Boys. It's just so lame. I have a fairly high tolerance for fantasy cheese, but I guess even I have my limits.

do you have runner 2 or battleblock theater. both are lots of fun. they helped me get close to my 3200. poker night 2 and monaco will round out the month for me.

Warhammer 40k is NUTS for sure. I am not really into it or something, but it is so insane and over the top which makes the books a great casual read for me.

No worries, it's one of the easiest shmups on XBLA. Just a tier or two above too-easy stuff like Zeit2, 1942 and Omega Five.

I don't see how the fact that one of the factions - only Orks speak like that - has a dialect means that the entire universe is stupid. In fact, I think it's a clever way to instantly inform you of the fact that orks are meant to be a very dumb race.

And, I mean, why would you assume that Kill Team somehow represents 40k perfectly, when everything else it does is half-assed? Of course it's a half-assed representation of the universe.

Your achievement OCD is going to make your brain explode if you get either of those games, TTK. 50+ hour completions, both of them, and Battleblock requires a very skilled coop partner. I just recently finished Runner2 and by the end I'm pretty sure that parts of my brain melted... Such a mindnumbing chore.

You sound like me, toythatkills. What about some the the "extreme" Namco revivals like Galaga Legions DX or Pac Man CE?

Got 'em :lol

Runner 2's interesting actually, something I'm definitely going to pick up sometime but I think it'll probably go on sale in the future so I don't know if I need to get it now, necessarily.

I'm not worried about finishing games, just about an uneven GamerScore. TWN is one of those games with stupid achievements totals like 7 and 11 and 12 or something.

Well it's not just the orks, the big bulky space marines with swords and rocket launchers, fighting for an intergalactic space emperor that's basically Space England--but yes, I readily admit that I'm judging it based on a spinoff game of a licensed game, so not exactly core universe stuff. Still way past my cheese limit.

Sine Mora, Fusion: Genesis, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Gripshift, Half-Minute Hero, Wik: Fable of Souls, Zeno Clash, Bangai-O, Nin2-Jump, Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, After Burner Climax, Marathon: Durandal, Schizoid

That's looking through my arcade games for games that generally didn't sell well or are often forgotten. A number of those I expect you own due to being a bit more popular and having gone on sale but figured I'd give you a list.

I've got them all but for Marathon, and I'm not really sure it's my thing. I've got a bunch of unplayed XBLA FPS games as it is, like CoD and Perfect Dark

Monaco won't release tomorrow. There's been an issue with the final release (already been patched by developer, waiting for MS approval).

That's really unfortunate especially for the people who were planning on picking up Monaco to fill out their Punchcards. I've got all my rewards done but I was really looking forward to playing it this week.

Hopefully they can get back on the schedule quickly.

So what do I need to do to get points back and what are the dates I need to buy within? Also, do I need to be a gold member, I am but I buy all my stuff on my U.S. account which is a silver one.

I hope it releases before May 1. I was planning to use it for part of my punchcard. I guess I better start sifting through the store to see what I don't have in case I need a back-up plan.

Is Quantum Conundrum good? I know I've made posts like this before but I'm going to list what I think are god-tier puzzle games on XBLA (man do I love these games on the 360):

Portal 2
Portal 1
Winterbottom
Fez
Limbo
Braid
ilomilo

And other puzzle games that were good, but a step below the above:

Lara Croft Guardian Of Light (I know, it's a stretch to call this a puzzle game)
Monkey Island 1
Axel&Pixel

You have to be a member of Xbox Rewards, the rest should sort itself (assuming you're already a member, anyway, if you've been buying stuff but haven't been signed up to Rewards, I don't know if they'll back-date stuff)

I wouldn't place Quantum Conundrum within that first tier. I guess it'd fit with the bottom group? It's a decent game but it's not as well designed as Portal despite feeling somewhat similar.

And now that Monaco is delayed I need to spend around 320 more points I believe. Probably finally pick up Pid. I own most everything that I want below the 800 price point.

Released today,

Poker Night 2 - 800msp, 444MB.

(Monaco has been delayed at the last minute.)

Thanks. I finally figured it out and 2 of my 3 purchases have registered. When the third does I might pick something up just to get the 800 points. Sucks that Monaco got delayed and Blood Dragon doesn't count!

Some bizarre over-produced XBLA promo where you choose your top 5 games and compare your choices to other peoples.

What a waste of resources.

It was a little over produced but I thought it was at least somewhat cool. If they use this as research and come out with some collection later on, I'm game. This is the one I made strictly based off what I feel is a mix between good games and what is marketable in retail.

Not exactly my ultimate collection, but a pretty good one nonetheless I think.

No comments on the Castle of Illusion screens? It looks dire to me. Only buying if there are pixels in it somewhere.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.

So this popped up on Xbox.com:

DEVELOPER: Black Forest Games
PUBLISHER: Deep Silver

Recruit and build up the baddest biker gang around! Hit the road with your deadly pack, decimating any opposition in your way as you lead them along legendary Route 66. You'll have to use both brains and brawn to get the best of rival gangs, though, as smart tactics and positioning could be the only thing that saves you and your gang from eating asphalt!

It's a companion game for Ride To Hell Retribution
http://www.oxmonline.com/deep-silver-announces-ride-hell-xbox-360-and-xbla

Marked as a June release on XBLA is Ride to Hell: Route 666. A more arcade-y spin on the motorcycle-gang action, it'll charge you with leading your own biker gang riding from Chicago to Los Angeles along a certain (surprise!) Route 66. "Understanding tactics" is something Deep Silver alludes to in its announcement, along with understanding "team sports" in order to "dive right in to commanding [your] gang."
