Xbots, turn in your uniforms here

Yeah, MS's showing was piss poor. They've invested how much time and money into this, and all they've got to show are (what look like) rushed Xbox ports, FF freaking eleven, and Gears of War? Meanwhile Sony drops what is clearly superior tech with more features and announced support. Two weeks ago I was ready to drop $450 on X360/PD0/NBA2K sight unseen (because I've been very satisfied with Xbox 1), but now I'm definitely taking the wait-and-see approach to this console. PS3 on the other hand is getting preordered ASAP (just hope they lose that hideous DS3-boomerang thing).

MS had a disappointing conference, true. I wonder how many of those PS3 games will look like that in game? Also, when are they coming out? All the Xbox 360 stuff is coming out by the end of the year (except for Gears of War), so it will obviously look worse than most of the PS3 stuff being launched later than it.

clearly to who?

both machines are really really nice...

Dang you guys are about as loyal as a crack whore. They have 5 more months until 360 drops a whole lot can change by then. I'm waiting for a confirmation on this "B/C" and exactly what percentage of Xbox games it will be supporting. If it sucks then most likely I'll stick with my Xbox for a while because PDZ was MIA and without it I have little desire to buy a 360.

The PS3 does look a bit like a George Foreman grill. Funny stuff.

I would really, really like concrete information on:

1. What were the game demos (for all systems) run on? Developement hardware, or actual system hardware (even if prototype)?

2. How long have the developers had development hardware? I thought the Unreal guy said 2 months for PS3 development hardware, but what sort of system was that? Haven't some of the 360 developers only had systems for a few weeks - and their Macs!?

3. How far away are developers away from get development hardware that will *almost* precisely replicate final design specification and performance?

I get the impression that most 360 developers are still working on Macs and are still guessing at the final spec. Is there actually a prototype setup that approximates final hardware that developers can get a true feeling of the final system? Or, is everything still just simulated?

Is anything next gen at E3 actually going to run on prototype hardware -> not development hardware far removed from the real machines? I want to see an actual prototype box with wires coming out of it connected to a monitor/TV.

There seems to be a lot of confusion and mis-information regarding all of this.

I still have hope though!

Where are you getting the "bunch of CG" from? Most of the sources I've seen (such as IGN) indicate the demos were all real-time...and running quite smoothly.
Just like the Halo 2 demo shown 2 yrs ago that wouldnt run on retail Xbox's? Gimmie a break. The PS3 wont be out for a year and you think this is running on consumer hardware? :lol :lol :lol :lol

Yeah but if they don't show the system/controller/etc what's the point. We need to know what the gimmick...err, revolution is exactly.

And I hope it's good.

And inexpensive.

Damn, just when I was thinking that a 360 might actually be a decent idea I see all the biggest Xbots jumping ship, meh...fuck that.

The system is being shown, its only the controller that their keeping secret. But IMO I think they need to show the controller to try and fight Sony's hype. Although I doubt they can match it.

Just sating my own opinion on what I saw, so I guess clearly to me. I'm not going to be able to break down the specs and what they mean to PS3 and X360, but I do know that PS3's demos "wowed" me much, much more than what X360 showed. Just calling it like I saw it.

I see Sony steamrolling the competition for yet another generation....

First impressions can be the lasting ones....and Sony hit a home run with their presentation.....if Nintendo has a good showing, MS could be in trouble....

fair enough... I am really excited about the 360... that's where all my PC RPGs are going... =(

The problem is there will probably be another E3 before ps3 comes out in the states. Its hard for me to get excited about something thats so far off.

Who said anything about consumer hardware?

The PS3 will be out in a year and you don't think developers have code up and running on real-world dev kits? :lol :lol :lol

MS might really be in trouble until Halo 3 hits. But i doubt it will be enough to turn the tide.

I really don't get it, well i understand why no PD0 footage, but you gotta throw the fans a Halo teaser atleast.

MS has to know how important these shows are to the fanboys, but they just left us all hanging there with are dicks in are hands.

Sony has won the all important fanboy wars this year, no doubt about that.

This must be what it feels like to be an Nbot.

With the 360's shaky BC, PS3 coming 6 months later with "better graphics" and being "more powerful", this is getting too much DC/PS2 isn't it?

XBL has kept me on Team Xbox. It looked great. I'm also not concerned with BC. I mainly played online sports on my Xbox anyway. I'll definitely grab a Xbox 360 and Madden on launch.

As for the PS3... There was nothing but renders and specs. I don't get how people are saying they're so impressed with it. And not that it has anything to do with game quality, but the system design is fugly, and :lol @ the controller. I really don't expect a huge gap between Xbox 360, PS3, and Revolution. You guys are setting yourselves up for big disappointment.

Anyway, looks like I'll be a 360 and Revolution owner this gen.

Don't be so sure about that....Sony seems more determined than MS at the moment to make a big splash next gen. And they are the console leader!

I remember when they showed Reiko and other shit, then we got a signigicant drop in graphical quality when the system hit. It these stay true, then fine. I don't see it though

Amen to that sister, I am down for Elder Scrolls 4 at launch. It’s the kind of game that would keep you occupied for months.

I'm looking forward to a few things right off the bat. Topspin 2, Gears of War, DOA 4, and of course Xbox Live. It's too long of a wait for PS3, and I'm sure with all that expensive hardware in the box PS3 will cost more than the 360. Throw in the fact that once again with Xbox you don't have to buy memory cards and the movie and music downloading features sound pretty cool to me.

March/April/May is too long to wait for PS3? There aren't enough current gen games to tide you over?

BTW, Gears of War is coming August of 2006. ;)

why, the Xbox has done more to evolve gaming than Sony ever could. Sure Sony had all the key players in their corner. But, the Xbox offered up Live and it totally changed what I've come to expect in online gaming. If MS does this next upgrade of the online service right it could be just as great of a leap.

Sure the PS3 may have better graphics... I still think Sony has to figure out how to fit all they promised into something they can sell for 300 or less. So I can still see the PS3 not being the perfect machine its being touted as. They will cut corners! they always do.

ehhh, I'll probably end up getting both anyway =P

I think it's way too early to call it a total win for Sony.

I still believe that the graphical differences between the two will be minimal. Flashy demos at E3 do not equate to what we'll see at home (especially when they are 15 seconds clips made purely for show). When we actually see videos of the actual game in action or play it personally then we can make a correct determination.

One thing M$, needs to learn from Sony though is the hype machine. No one else does it better. :D

And the people who still want a one console future are pure, unadulterated idiots. Competiition is good for the industry.

The real gamers win out by playing the best games on all consoles. I plan to.

Good Lord, if you're "out" because you didn't like the 'presentation', you are just, stupid.

The PS3 just showed a bunch of CG and 'realtime demo's'. Not a single thing in game.

The Xbox 360 showed a bunch of great looking game...

Ghost Recon 3
Morrowind: Oblivion
Gears of War
Kameo
Project Gotham Racing 3

and add to that all the new XBL stuff and just wow.

all of that was fairly stunning stuff. Of course they showed a bunch of average or crap like PD0 and DOA4, etc.

Seems to me, you are being short cited. Sony showed the shittiest controller ever devised. Not a single problem witht he controller was dealt with. They still have the shitty analog sticks, placed in the shitty position, no analog triggers and no extra functions. Add to that the worst fucking possible design and I just refuse to play on that. I will figure out a way to ge the X360 controller to work on that.

And for you to fall for that CG cutscenes and realtime demo's like you did it just dumb on your part. The only gameplya they showed was from GT5, which is their best developer and PGR3 owned it, plain and simple. Now what does that tell you?

And I'll have Topspin 2, NBA2K6, DOA 4, and Gotham 3 to fill in the gaps til gears of war hits. I'm pretty much done with the current gen, I have 34 games right now and plan on only getting 3-5 more games til 360 launches. When 360 launches I'll be playing new games and of course Halo 2 on Live via 360.

Did everyone forget were 6 months from launch? Would any of you fair weather fans like some cheese with that whine? MS will pull it all together, they were just more about stressing Xbox Live tonight and the community aspect. Gears of War was sick, DOA 4 was well done, Project Gotham looked hot, and Ghost Recon 3 looked darn good. Go ahead and wait another 18 months for PS3, by that time 360 will have a large selection of great games.

*whispers* Dude, you have to be more subtle....

oh, and this thread is evil.

What's this internet cliche going to turn to now that all the medals and badges of hardware superiority have been stripped?
Obvious answer: Buy a PS3, or prepare to suffer!

Whatever you need to tell yourself. :lol

I agree, it’s like the entire forum has turned into Sony fanboys (must be something in the water).

Seriously guys both consoles look fucking awesome, there are a few shitty looking XB360 titles and the PS3 controller looks like crap. But I know I will enjoy both immensely and realistically there will be little difference in the graphics even the PS2 has games that look just as good as some of the better XB games.

Games like Elder Scrolls, Kameo, and PGR3 will have me picking up a XB360 at launch and MGS3, FF12, GTA? Will have me buying a PS3 down the track.
