I don't have this number, but I've been told a kiosk costs about $2500, without the tv screen and the console of course.Ceb said:Clever of MS to have a standardized kiosk like this. How many of the advanced kind are they gonna ship out?
This comes from a site (owned by a very big software reseller) in belgium.123rl said:Is this official? Any idea if it's US-only or for everywhere?
I just can't imagine this lasting very long in some chav-filled cities in Britain...

I realize having the kids play 360 games in HD is the only real way to sell it, but I thought this system was supposed to make a profit?

cybamerc said:I've long wondered why kiosks cost so much. Surely there's not $2.500 worth of materials in such a kiosk. Assembly can't take long. Anyone know why they're so expensive?

Read: Now everyone who has no intention of getting the Xbox 360 will never leave your store. When using their own headphones to fully experience the Xbox 360 aural experience, they won't be able to hear you telling them to "get the fuck out"!Powerful sound experience enabled through built-in headphone jacks.
Chittagong said:Short version: Small quantities and assembled by hand. Say there would be 10.000 retail outlets in the US. Doing plastic molds for that quantity is expensive and you can't really do a production line for such a small quantity. Materials and components need to be fire-safe and extra durable, as they will take a lot of beating. The unit is also very bottom heavy to prevent it from being pushed down like a magazine rack, which adds to shipping cost.

This won't be the case with the Xbox 360 units thanks to that quite big Samsung agreement with MS a few months ago.Shinobi said:Heh, the PS2 kiosks have some of the worst LCD screens I've ever seen...just complete and utter shit.

Stores could get exclusive skins/characters/whatever and have the possibility for everyone coming to the store to get them directly from the demo unit. Quite a nice idea to get people to come back to the store as often as possible.
