Here's how I rate the games I picked up upon launch:
PGR3: 9/10
Condemned: 8.5/10
Call of Duty 2: 9/10
Quake 4: 8/10
Perfect Dark 8/10
PGR3 is just absolutely fantastic. I've been playing with my friends online and thisgame has been a complete blast. I LOVE the fact that I can now save ouronline replays at the end of the race. Now I can put together some awesome shots in photo mode. f the rumor is true about trading photos in a future online update of the game, then this will help bolster it's replayablity. Also, GothamTV is the slickest thing to happen to online games in a long time. I hope we see this feature implemented in furture games.
Condemned just blew me away with how much fun I had with the game, even though I almost soiled my pants in every chapter. The XBox360 did a fantasitc job at rendering a griity and dank environmnet, and this game has some of the best use of positional sound I've heard in a video game. I love the use of theforensic investigative elements. Not only did they look and play well, but they were also used as a story telling device. For a first attempt, it worked out quite well. This game scares the crap out of you in a good way and I will go back and play through some chapters and unloc acheivements. I love this game and weill never part with it. I hope it sells well becuase I want a sequel!
Call of Duty 2, if it wasn't for Brother in Arms, I would've really been blow away by the actions/reaction of the NPC A.I. This game is top notch and really raises the bar for immersion. Anothergame that kicks @$$ in regards to positional sound, and your squad mates aren't just barking taunts, they're telling you thegame objectives. If this game had online co-op and a lobby it would be one of my contenders for game of the year. after the Tom Clancy games and Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, a war game realyl benefits from co-op play IMHO (but I'm not taking points away form this stellar title).
Quake 4 puts a big smile on my face. Yeah, Raven could've taken another month to smooth out the framerate, but if you take your Call of Duty 2 googles off, you'll see that this game is a blast to play. Your squad mates actually have decent A.I. and will heal you, fix your aromor, and occasionally upgrade your weapons. The Strogg are no chumps by any means. The game is fast paced but step out of line and you will get punished. The multiplayer is fun and I love the fact that the game comes with Quake 2 (and all it's expansions) with online play. Don't judge until you've played it yourself.
Perfect Dark Zero, I have a love hate releationship with this game but the online co-op and the kickass multiplayer modes make this game a keeper. If Missions 4 & 5 weren't so goddamn botched, some of the mission objectives more cleraly outlined, and the game didn't feel rushed it would've MORE than lived up to the hype! The later missions are all out action and a blast to play but the 4 & 5 nearly drove me insane.
XBLA: 10/10 the most overlooked gem of the XBox360 launch. The fact that all game will have free trial demos, coupled with the fact that most games will have XBL play just blows my mind. These games are deceptively additive and I feel a good thing for the industry in general. Even those who balked at the mention of the word 'microtransactions' are finally starting to get it. I have to kick my wife off of Zuma so I can play CoD2. :lol
My $0.02........
