Firstly, I think the word you were looking for was immersion.

Do you have to be so patronizing? No, the word I was looking for was the one I used. Immersibility - the ability to provide or encourage immersion. It may not be a merriam-webster word, but I'm certainly not the first to use it.

Secondly, PGR3 in cockpit view is the most immersive racing game ever created. If you dismiss it based upon something as small and trivial as the framerate, I pity you.

Because "the most immersive racing game ever created" is obviously such a statistically-verifiable characteristic. Far be it from me to insert something as 'irrelevant' as my own personal feelings for RR into a thread that's so clearly based on impartial, quantitative analysis. I am ashamed.

I disagree. DQ8 and RR6 didn't bomb because they were Japanese, there are lots of Japanese games that do really well. RR6 was severely under marketed. Project Gotham 3 looked much better than it, and Need For Speed ads were all over the place. I think a lot of people were turned off by DQ8's art style. Unless you're a dragon ball fan, it's not a good looking game.

exactly... there isnt even a ridge racer 6 american web site... and namco had a frame city killer web site since august!

no promo... people wont care.

Put up against both PGR and NFS at launch, there was little room left for RR. But I didn't expect it to be quite this bad.

OTOH, even this fan of RR was put in a tough position because given one racer to buy and support at launch, I'd very easily go for one of the few game series I put above it--the hardcore-oriented PGR. And for almost any gamer, NFS:MW really is a good racer. Can't begrudge it its success.

you know what... i bet that RR6 is coming for the PS3 and namco is going to pimp the shit out of it then... along with that new tekken of theirs.... probably "remix" it too... new stages, cars, some new effects to make the 360 version look inferior.

if i didnt come to gaming web sites like this... i seriously wouldnt have known there was a RR6 in existence until i got up to the counter and saw it there.

And no one should be pissed about that. If you think about it, it makes sense. Namco knew that competition was tight with 3 racers at launch. IMO, they made the right choice by not advertising. Even if they advertised heavily, the sales generated would most likely not pay for the hundreds of thousands of dollars spent to advertise. The would be 3rd in the race no matter what. No amount of advertising could have changed that.

The PS3 will not launch with 3 racers. Namco should capitalize on that. Advertise heavily, give the consumers a game they can't get on 360, and sales will improve immensely.

I don't HAVE to be a patronizing dick but this is the internet so it is somewhat necessary. In all seriousness, I apologize for my condescension. It's just that framerate complaints really irk me...especially when they prevent someone from experiencing a game as great as PGR3.

So, you're saying that your "love" is "statistically-verifiable"?

Look, alls I'm just saying is, the thing you seem to value in racing games ( "immersibility" ;) ) is something that PGR3 has in spades. It would be foolish for you to completely write it off because of its framerate.

Amen.

With or without a HDTV PGR3 is very, very, very immersive.

A++ immersibility factor :lol

Group hug. I edited out the dick reference anyway. No, the only thing preventing me from enjoying PGR3 at the moment is that I tend to only play one game in a given genre at a time, and since the RR series is among my favorites, there it is. I'll certainly try PGR3 and possibly buy it at some point at a discount (like many people might do with RR6).
