xbox 360 to be sealed shut?

The theory behind this is to make the 360 cost prohibitive to mod. The modders are going to mod the 360 for entirely different reasons. For them, it's something to defeat. Play MAME is the lowest priority.

So, for the average gamer who wants to pirate roms. The most likely scenario would be to buy a used Xbox (or use yours after you get a 360), a modchip, and a big hard drive. Modding an Xbox is easy, well documented, and has a lot of benefits. Modding a 360 will just not be worth it. Why spend all that money to mod a 360 when a modded Xbox will be cheaper and perform all the same functions?

Exactly. I'm banking on the fact that people will start trading in XBox consoles left and right. I'd love to pick up 2 or 3 more to mod to make kick @$$ set top boxes throughout the house. Gimme a used XBox for $50 to make for a nice multimedia players or emulator arcade machine for my guest room!

HD

I want XBMC-HD

And to get rid of my xbox so one less box in the room.

I quickly looked over my xbox 360 and I couldn't figure out how it's opened, so yeah, this is totally true. Unless they figure out a software mod, it could be pretty difficult to mod this one.

It looks like my xbox will continue to have an importance place next to the tv as my one stop destination for movie streaming, Super Mario Brothers 2 and Ninja Gaiden Black.

Oh really? What's the failure rate on the PS2? I'd personally like to know what it is compared to any other system for that matter. There's so much anecdotal evidence that I'd be very suprised if any class action lawsuit held water against Sony. For one, I don't think we've EVER seen what the failure rate on the product is. Not to mention, if the failure rates fall beyond not just warranty, but also the MTBF stated in the machine's specs, then it's even harder to hold the manufacturer liable. I wouldn't mind getting in on that lawsuit action, but I find it dubious to say the least.

For the record, I got a PS2 in February 2000 and it didn't start developing problems until late-2002 or so when it stopped reading PS1 games and DVDs. That was after being in a couple brawls (like real fights where it got knocked over and stepped on), as well as living with chronic chronic smokers. I would complain, but I don't think you can expect electronics to survive that kind of environment for too long. :? PEACE.

I received an email about one class action suit. Here is the site. http://www.ps2settlement.com/

Read the article and find out: http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2610

Them replacing the system sounds good though, as long as they don't fuck you in the ass for it (charge you damn near full-price).

Aaaaannnd... yeah.
I still look at that thing in shock. If I stacked four of them on top of each other, it would be near the exact size of the 360 itself.

I doubt the PS3 power brick is going to be any smaller.
Check that connector at the bottom. That's a standard mains voltage input. PS3 isn't going to have a power brick.

It's time for this again...

I'm assuming the 360 is not Energy Star compliant.
